I’ve eaten here before and the food is not bad. However, I was the only one here standing in front of the cash register for 10 minutes, waitress looking at me serveral times, not asking me about my order. Then comes a customer behind me. Waitress ask about picking up an order. Customer cuts in front of me and gets helped. Then waitress ask me second about a take out order. I don’t care if it’s a Chinese culture of cutting in line but customers like that and management at the restaurant should be ashamed of themselves. I will never come back here. There are too many Chinese restaurants in south sac.

If you are of color you are treated with the up most disrespect. I was honestly fed yesterday’s house fried rice. It was crunchy and reheated. She tried to tell me that it was burned from the pot I know the difference. It’s not the same as it use to be. I am a very polite person. It doesn’t matter they still are rude. I used to love this place me and my family. No more

This place rocks!!! Moved here from LA and had been looking for a good traditional Cantonese. Order the pot stickers and the hot fish pot with mushrooms. Freakin awesome flavors. I see what other poster mean about the service, but it wasn’t that bad. Just a tad slow.

Have never had a bad experience at this restaurant. My family and I have been coming here for years. The food, especially the live seafood dishes are always good. The décor could be updated but some business owners just don’t have the budget considering the high overhead it takes to run a restaurant of that size. As far as customer service goes, the servers at traditional Chinese restaurants like these are merely order takers, which is expected.

We stood in the restaurant 1 whole hour status post ordering in TAKEOUT. We arrived 30 min after putting in the order and proceeded to have to wait 30 more minutes in the restaurant while two of our three items sat boxed up on our table getting cold. The staff was exceedingly unprofessional. Every 10 min that would pass they would proceed to quell us with«almost done, another 10 minutes». If I can help it, I will never again order from this restaurant.

I love this place! When you’re inside, it feels like you can be in the middle of Beijing but this is Sacramento and staff speak fluent English/Mandarin/Cantonese which adds to the authenticity. You know if you see Asian families at a Chinese restaurant then it must be good. Tofu, noodles, vegetables are all fresh. Just don’t use the restroom. That place is definitely not fresh.

Make sure you call in first The wait time is excruciating Food is delicious however service isn’t great Yea is watered down I’m writing this review as I’m sitting here waiting for my order that I put in 45 minutes ago Either it’s going to be extremely fresh or they just love to make a black man wait either way I’m here

This is probably one of the worst Chinese places I’ve ever been to. The food was way to greasy for my taste and the service was lacking.

Great food! Plenty of parking! Very bright lighting! Friendly staff! Great price! I like the fact they open late! My favorite dish is the salt fish fried rice! Place is clean! There are a lot of food pictures on the wall! There are also a lot of seating for big family of 6 – 7 people! I really like this place! Highly recommended!

Layout/vibe Layout is simple no décor. This place has a lot of seating and tables. It is busy on night times. There are lots of parking, so parking isn’t a trouble. Food The food here is OK. The food is on the oily side. Also we like to request less msg because we find that there are a lot in the food. Sometimes food can be salty. We like to get the family dinner usually if so. They do have this family deal that feeds 4 people for 78 bucks which comes with a fresh steam fish, stir fry clams, veggie dish, and lobster too. Rice isn’t usually included and are 1 dollar per person. Service One of the most poor service here. They don’t really check up or anything. Mostly take your order and then drop food off then wait til you flag them down for the bill. Overall Don’t like this place much. I think it is ok. Great for family dinners and or celebrations. The food is more authentic and more unique than your average azn place. My fam do like coming here to get fam bam style dinners is why we come here. Personally i wont really choose this place.

Walked in, not busy. Staff refused to acknowledge our existence. Waited around a little, but then left. No stars.

I have no clue how people in Sacramento only rated this 3⁄5 stars. I lived in China, LIVED there and have visited around 9 different cities there at least. This place is literally the 2nd most authentic Chinese place I’ve eaten at since being back in the USA. I live in the Bay Area too, so yeah. I know what I’m talking about. The food is good and true to it’s colours. I suggest the clay pot papaya and beef, and the home style taro and potato stir fry.

Wow, let me look back in history and see when my Lai Wah story began. In 1983 Lai Wah opened its doors and I was a fixture there. I worked late nights at Denny’s on Broadway and would come in after work and days I was off work. Lai Wah was like family to me serving up some of the best authentic Chinese food in Sacramento at cut rate prices. In 1983 a plate of chow fun cost $ 3.95 or so! Fast Forward to the present decade, New Lai Wah changed ownership a few years back. Although there was some minor updating the place still looks the same, hole in the wall medium sized Chinese comfort food joint. One of the reasons I stopped coming to the old Lai Wah was because the staff were terrible. It was with a heavy heart when I decided the ridiculous inept wait staff wasn’t worth dealing with anymore even though I was friends with the ownership of the place. From my recent trips to the New Lai Wah, service is still bad. Everything takes forever and the staff looks and acts like they just don’t care. I saw one table get up and leave because it took so long for their food to arrive. All that being said, New Lai Wah still has the best gravy style beef chow fun and Hong Kong style tomato beef chow mein in town. Prices are around $ 8 a plate now but both dishes are delicious. We have ordered a few other entrees which were on the salty side but the Fu Shen? fried rice is pretty tasty and novel as well. Instead of traditional fried rice it is a gravy style rice served with diced shrimp, chicken, mushrooms, eggs and green beans. Overall I am sad to say you will probably get bad service and some of your dishes will be salty, but others will be off da hook! NLW is still good for noodles and late night Chinese.

Came here with my family/friends after a long day of biking along the river. We had a group of 8 and got seated right away. After we got water and menu they forgot about us, we’ve been waiting and hungry. Finally I waved down a waitress and told her we want to order. The food came out pretty fast and taste ok for this kind of restaurant I guess. We’ve noticed the couple that came in right after us got up and walked out because no one took their order. These workers need to get their business straighten out or they will be closed soon.

I’m kind of surprised the ratings here are lower than New Hong Kong Café; we wound up coming here due to bad service at NHKC(the management basically told us they would be kicking us out after an hour and a half to make room for a party, finished or not), and it was a great experience. The food was fresh and very delicious(the Peking duck, sweet and sour pork, sweet and sour chicken, and fried fish were especially delicious); the service was a bit slow, but they were swamped, so it’s understandable. We actually managed to a party of nine seated in about a half hour despite how busy they were, so they did pretty well in that regard. Only minor complaints I have are the noise and the tables not being quite large enough to fit multiple entrees(though in their defense, we ordered quite a bit of food), but I would definitely come here again.

This place has been under new ownership for a while now(the old workers From Jade Fountain bought it out) and it tastes a little better than before. Still a tad bit oily for my liking but they are open late and provide fast service. I usually order the«wet» chow fun noodles topped with eggs and shrimp which is pretty good. Their portions are big too so you’ll always leave full! They have a variety of authentic and American style Chinese food and everything is moderately priced. This restaurant is good for big groups as they have a lot of bigger tables avaiable and also offer an assortment of family meals. Service I would rate a 2⁄5 since you have to really flag the servers down for water re-fills, the bill, etc. They pretty much just deliver the food to your table and leave you aone. This place is a bit old so the inside isn’t very appealing but, if you’re craving late night Chinese food these are one of the few restaurants open for business.

New Lai Wah has quickly become my favorite authentic Cantonese place in Sacramento. No frills here, but they do an amazing job with the following: Princess scallops Crab with glass vermicelli Crispy skin pork belly Freshly cooked live shrimp
