We walked in expecting Indian food but soon realized they serve Fijian Indian food. A good experience for us since their food was prepared very differently from any of the other Indian food we had before. However, most of the dishes didn’t have enough depth in flavor and didn’t really appeal to our taste buds. Service was nonexistent and way overpriced. If you’ve never had Fijian Indian maybe it’s worth a try.

My partner and I visited the address of Mani’s Curry House yesterday, which was Friday, May 20, 2011, and found that the restaurant is out of business. The location is vacant. There is a sign on the door that says, ‘Sorry for the inconvenience. We have moved to a new location.‘ However, no new address is indicated on the sign. We visited the web page for Mani’s and it is still up but doesn’t indicate that the place is now out of business or does it make mention of a new address.

I visited this place with my family, it was a Saturday night and we were the only ones there. The buffet wasn’t much of a buffet. 2 goat dishes, 1 chicken and the rest veggies. Really wish there was more to choose from. Restaurant wasn’t decorated at all and full of folding chairs and tables. price wasn’t worth it. Go somewhere else.

This place is abhorrent. There are taco stands that have better standards than this place. First off, this place HASNOCURRY!!! I went here with my girlfriend for the lunch buffet. We were the only ones there. There was hardly any food in the trays, and there were only 3 dishes, 2 goat dishes and one chicken dish. The bread was undercooked, and the only sodas working in the fountain were Sprite, Diet Coke, and Barq’s. The food was overcooked, and tasted like it had been made days ago, worse than leftovers. Worst $ 22 I ever spent at a restaurant. Do NOT go here, these people do not know what they are doing.

We dined there last Saturday. I am sorry that I cannot recommend this restaurant, which is a disappointment. Several of the other reviews were positive, so I thought to try it out with my coupon. The food appeared to have been sitting out for a while and had dried out. Our experience was similar to another reviewer — we were the only diners there. There are better Indian buffets in town, but, because this establishment is very new, maybe the owners will take heed and make the necessary changes to stay in business.

Okay went to my new favorite spot in South Sacramento last night. This was the first time I ate the dinner buffet. It was very good and tasty.

I really like this place but I just cannot give a 4 to an all you can eat buffet. I cannot think of a single place where piggin out adds up to a 4 star restaurant. But this place is pretty damn good. I had the buffet and pigged out. My wife had pakora and samosa. They were excellent. On the buffet, the curries(meat and veg) and pulao(rice dishes) were flavorful. For lunch, MCH had a pretty good selection. I suppose at dinner, their selection will be larger. For the price, it’s an excellent deal. I learned that the Mani’s are from India(grandma’s generation came to Fiji). The Mani’s grew up in the Fiji Islands where learning how to cook was passed down the generations. Sanjay Mani was in the back and his wife was out front answering our questions and telling us how they came to Sac to open their place. The fish was very good. I’m glad it wasn’t Tilapia!!! MCH has take-out and catering.

As the saying goes, you find love when you least expect it. This rings true, for food too, as I recently discovered Mani’s Curry House in South Sacramento that had me taking a double-take when It caught my eye. As an Indian food fanatic, I HAD to try this place. My tires screeched and the traffic honked as I darted into the corner shopping area at Mack Road and Stockton Boulevard, comfortably pulling into a spot. Mani’s warm welcome, and friendly service made me feel I was at the right place. It was a nice change from the service you sometimes get at restaurants where servers seem to wander the floor in a silent song-and-dance, and parade around your dining needs. Fortunately, Mani’s was just the opposite. They were happy to deliver. Their wonderfully-scented menu is inspired by the flavors and culinary traditions of the East Indian-influenced Fijian Islands. Seeing this, I didn’t hesitate to dive in and savor all the comforting goodness of these mildly-spiced dishes. Their seating was spacious, and the cheesy, vintage knock-off action film playing that day in HD, was just a riot. Rambo, anyone? Come to find, Mani’s also offers their lunch buffet To-Go, which will be favorable to my weekday lunch crunch. Having only been open for a few months, Mani’s Curry House is a newly-found gem. It will be a short time until I’m considered a regular at this spot, I’m sure. Aside of wanting to polish their napkin dispensers, the only drawback is not being able to stay all day and glutton myself on their intoxicating menu. It’s one of a kind. The secret is out. 7850 Stockton Boulevard /916−647−4915.

Visited this buffet over the weekend and was surprised to discover that we were the only two people for over an hour at dinner time. Fijian food is similar to Indian food except the flavor and spices are much milder. There were a few chicken stews, daal, lamb stew, chop suey and fried rice. I found the salad to have a very unique taste and the best rice pudding. Service was very attentive(no other patrons). I would like to go back sometime to try a la carte. Buffet is not a very accurate measure reference.

I have known about this place for a little while, but was just able to get to it today. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to actually have a sit down meal here before I leave. so I decided to just get the buffet to go. The people here are super duper nice. They actually talk to you. Give you conversation. So that’s a plus. One thing that is kind of weird is that I wasn’t able to get my own food. The guy put it in the box for me. This was actually kind of helpful since he was able to explain everything. Maybe it was because he knew I had not been there before. maybe it is a rule. but I am sure some people will not like that aspect. I ended up getting chicken and lamb as my meats. okra, jackfruit and something with potatoes as my vegetables. I actually did not like the meat. It’s not that it was bad… I just did not like the spices. The only fijian meat I am used to is very simple. The vegetables, on the other hand.outstanding. The okra was delicious. The potatoes were mouthwatering and the jackfruit was wonderful. The meal comes with roti, which is traditional Fijian bread. Do not get Fijian roti confused with regular Indian roti/chapati/parantha. Fijian roti is thicker, plain, gives you something to chew. I love Fijian roti. Now I am going to take a stroll down memory lane. I dated a Fijian guy for almost 4 years. His mom lived with us for a while, and I remember there was always roti available. It has been a few years since we split. and I have never had that roti again until today. So thank you for giving me that food memory back. We also had jackfruit every now and then. I love jackfruit, and the jackfruit I ate today was very yummy. If I were to come back, I’d definitely be fine with sticking with the vegetarian foods. There was plenty of stuff in the buffet to choose from. You are sure to find something you like. And remember when you go, this is not your regular Indian food… it’s Fijian. So don’t compare the two.

Best Indian food I’ve had in Sacramento — everything is fresh. The food is mildly spiced but the chutneys let you get whatever heat level you want. Try it!

Mani’s was definitely a unique experience. I love curries and exotic food, so trying Mani’s was an obvious choice. I originally saw it on Unilocal and the location intimidated me(«all the way down there?!»), but when we were going to Costco I saw the sign and realized it’s in a pretty decent area, despite the street names. The food had some highs and some(potentially avoidable) lows. The cuisine itself was a bit like Indian food, Chinese food(not Americanized), and Mexican food mixed together. Being a curry house, it was closest to Indian food, but it seemed as though it was missing the cream & butter that make Indian food so rich. If you’re like me and love Indian food but always feel guilty afterwards, this is a good compromise. We tried the egg curry(good sauce and it was very interesting, but whatever was coating the egg had a strange texture that kinda threw the whole thing off), the chicken chop suey(delicious!), the fried rice dish(also amazing), the chicken curry(tasty, but the bones made it difficult to eat), and a few other things. I particularly liked the roti and pickles. The roti(flatbread) was very dense and had a wonderfully subtle sweetness to it – it mixed with the sauces very well. The pickled carrots and peppers were amazing – spicy, flavorful, and bold. The desert was almost like a farina with grapes and almonds. It was very low key but still satisfying. One thing I noticed while eating here was that you almost had to pause every few bites. Many of the flavors onset at the end of the bite, rather than the beginning. My main criticism is with the bones that was in the chicken curry and the lamb(or was it goat) curry dish. I expect it in lamb/goat, but it threw me off to have bones in chopped chicken. Ultimately, I think what summarizes Mani’s is it’s very unexpected. They aren’t pulling punches to make things more western. Mostly that’s a good thing. I’m interested to go back and when I do, I’ll probably minimize the meat dishes and try their awesome selection of vegetarian food.

We came in early evening on Saturday, so it was empty. The décor was homey and not intimidating, because honestly, I’ve never had food from Fiji, so I WOULDHAVE been intimidated. Don’t ask. Anyhow. It was buffet-style. The hubbs and I decided to share a take-out plate. They gave us a standard styrofoam box with an additional two little cups with lids and one more larger plastic container with a lid. I was in-glee. They said, «Fill them with whatever you want and with as much as you want.» My reaction: «!» So we did. They had a pretty good selection. It wasn’t a huge buffet by any means, but there didn’t need to be a big selection of stuff I’d never had before. They had one section dedicated to vegetarian dishes, which I thought was pretty awesome. When they said they had lamb, I went right for it. They had a number of things; lamb rice(with an abundance of different spices in it. It was insane), chicken chop suey, chicken in some sort of sauce(I didn’t look at the name plate) and fried rice with little shrimps in it. There were a couple other things, but those are what we got in our plate and it was all a very unique experience. I didn’t include this in all the other dishes, because it was entirely different and NOTHING I’ve ever seen at any restaurant I’ve been to. What is it? Egg curry. EGGCURRY. I had to try it. They were whole hard-boiled eggs, with what I would imagine was batter that was deep fried(not oily, don’t worry) all in a sauce with potatoes and some other veggie. The sauce it was in was awesome. When you get a meal, they give you a number of tortilla-type flat breads that have a particular sweetness I can’t identify, but yes, they are rad. I’d say that the bread dipped in the egg curry sauce was my favorite. OH! Side-dish type pickled vegetables in this amazing spicy oil. Amazing. We will be back as soon as possible and we plan to try an entirely vegetarian meal. Minus one star for all the bones in the chicken and lamb, but believe me… it’s not going to stop me from getting it again in the future.

When we found out that this new Indian buffet restaurant opened up near our house, we were looking forward to trying out the food. One of our Unilocal friends gave it a good review. We came during dinner time but no other diners were present. The staff were very nice and made us feel welcome. There was a number of dishes available containing both meat or vegetarian style. We tried to sample as many of the selections as we could to give it a comprehensive critique. Unfortunately my boyfriend and I were both greatly disappointed in the food. I’m no expert in Indian cuisine, but I know what I like flavor-wise. And this wasn’t it. Many of the dishes seemed to have too much ground pepper in it, so you couldn’t really taste much else. Others were lacking in something, but I’m not sure what. I was hoping to get some nan, but instead we were given tortillas that were pretty limp and dry. Some fruit and salad were available with limited dressing selections. The only dessert, was something like shortening or lard covered in brown sugar which gave it a heavy, greasy taste. The waiter or possibly the owner was very attentive and kept asking us how the food was. We were too uncomfortable to tell him the truth. Now that I think back, I wish we were honest and up front. If they continue serving this kind of food, this restaurant won’t last long. And I hate to see businesses go belly up. Maybe we came there on a bad day. But it’s a shame that we don’t have any reason to come back here. At least AB’s Indian restaurant across the street has nothing to worry about competitively. Their food has been consistently top quality!

I was here for the Grand Opening of this restaurant. The staff and owners made you feel at home. I literally felt like I was visiting a friend’s house for home cooking. Ok Let’s get to the food… The menu was buffet style and I sampled a little of everything. All of the food was good and spicy. The Chicken Chop Suey definitely was my favorite dish. I also enjoyed the lamb chops. The drinks were regular fountain drinks but they did have beer available as well. Now this is something new for me. I have tried curry dishes before but came away disappointed. The food here is worth a try. I thought it was very good. The service is excellent and the price is right. My only nitpick was they could use a bigger flat screen or have two(one for each side of the restaurant for viewing) Overall this place is great and definitely deserves a visit. This was the grand opening so I did not give it five stars. I would like to come back in a few months and review it again to see if my review still rings true in a few months.
