Just ate here last night with the wife. I thought the food was stellar, the service was excellent and after we were done eating we went and got some schooling from Matt at the bar. He’s really into his CA sourced spirits and anyone who barrel ages their own cocktails, makes his/her own bitters, tinctures, and infusions while excitedly sharing his craft with the patrons gets my vote. Keep it up gang! We did go early so I can’t speak to the noise level or the ability to provide the great service we had in the place once crowded, but our experience was really great.

Had a great meal at hock farm. The Porchetta pizza was great. The vegetables were a standout. You mostly see a lot of meat on a menu, and not think how good a vegetable dish can be. The carrot appetizer was superb. my wife and I shared the artesian meat and cheese board which featured a molten raclette cheese. Service could use some attention to detail, but not horrible

Enjoyed lunch with my dad here, we tried many things(spinach salad/pulled pork/potato salad/and some fancy pork stroganoff) Everything was bomb! The waiter was very knowledgeable and the staff came out to speak to us about the delicious dishes we ordered. Can’t wait to come back

LAME-O! What a lame establishment that takes our reservation, but can’t even get the door open. We had a group lunch reservation for 11:30 and we arrived at 11:25 and the door was locked. There were other people there waiting with us. We peered through the window and the seats were still on top of the table and only a guy cleaning the floor was there. We needed to done by 12:30 to make an afternoon meeting, so we waited until 11:35 and walked around the corner to the Cafeteria. The Cafeteria seated up right away and the food and service was awesome. The previous restaurant Spartro was the same way. Plus there are conflicting listings for when the restaurant opens 11:00 or 11:30. Forget going here, because once you get inside the service is soooo slow anyway.

I’ve gone to a Hock Farm on 4 occasions since they’ve opened. It’s typically been 6 months to a year between each visit, and unfortunately, after last night I will not be going back. I have never seen such consistently poor service in a restaurant. It actually angers me that such a beautifully designed restaurant, in a perfect location in Downtown/Midtown Sacramento continues to fall short of creating an enjoyable dining experience for me. They get 2 stars because the hosts are great and I love the location. I’ve never had to wait for a table, and when I came with a party of 20 we were sat quickly for our reserved area. They are always friendly, and each time I’ve been seated I think«OK, maybe this time will be different!» Then I order a drink, and I wait, and I wait, and I wait, and the blonde waitress walks past and doesn’t acknowledge I’ve been waiting and goes and takes another order. The restaurant is never THAT busy, and I continue to wait. I have waited 20 minutes for a drink. 20 minutes. That was when we had a reservation weeks prior for a large business dinner at 6pm on a Wednesday and we ALL waited for 20 minutes. Last night I waited 10 minutes when I was one of two in the bar and the glasses of wine were just sitting at the bar. We then order food, and we wait, we wait, we wait, food comes(burgers) and they’re ALL cold and ALL wrong. Hour wait and we all had to send the food back, this was on a Wednesday. I once ordered the salmon with cauliflower purée and have never tasted something more disgusting in my life. It was SOUR. Salmon was delicious, but over SOUR, yucky cauliflower purée. Please enhance your customer service and wait staff skills. It’s just so unfortunate and your restaurant is somewhere I would love to frequent!

Came here for a friend’s bday dinner. Every other place around the area was packed and had like over an hr wait. We decided why not here. Food on Unilocal looked interesting. All the workers were friendly. We were seated in the corner near the window. Perfect enough for privacy and to ppl watch. Was very indecisive with what to eat. Ended up ordering a lil of everything to share. Food was just ok for me. Nothing fantastic. Sliders(2) — small, but tasty Steamed mussels– did not finish. Lack flavor Mac & cheese– cheesy full of flavor & bacon Roast chicken– portion was huge and very tender Drinks– delicious and refreshing

Restaurant was very rustic and had that farm to table feel to it. The food we ordered was very tasty and just the right portion size. We ordered the asparagus as an appetizer and pastas and sliders for our main meal. You can tell that the pork in the sliders and the bolognese pasta was slow cooked for days! It was so tender and flavorful. The ravioli was delicious as well.

This was the best Paragary experience I’ve had so far in terms of food, value, and ambiance. There’s a lovely bar area and the menu has been very well-crafted. We enjoyed the mussels and chorizo app, chicken and mortadella tortellini(to DIEFOR — I believe the pasta is homemade? And very rich mushroom flavor that was not overly salty), and the grilled pork chop cooked to perfection. What I’ve found so far being in Sac is either food is too salty or bland, so I’m very excited to have found somewhere that’s neither. My only complaint was — sitting at the bar — the bartenders/servers were having some kind of pow wow right in front of our faces. It was like listening to a bunch of frat boys getting amped for a themed party on a Friday night or something. So that was a bit distracting, but the service ended up being fine. I just think they could have been more professional that’s all. Overall — I’ve glad I finally found somewhere to bring visitors. It’s a bummer they don’t have brunch! I’d recommend dinner here for sure.

The restaurant was packed the day I dined here. I picked this place because it was conveniently located to the theater. I liked the open space, but it was loud. My friend and I ordered two entrees to share– the spit-roasted chicken & mortadella tortelloni and scallops with couscous(fresh catch of the day). We enjoyed both dishes. I liked the procini cream for the tortelloni and I love mushrooms. The scallops were probably the biggest I’ve had. The couscous contained asparagus and accompanied the scallops nicely. While I did enjoy the dishes, neither was too memorable. I don’t need to come back to order them again. We ended the meal with citrus cheesecake, which had a sliced kumquat on top. My friend liked it more than I did. It was too rich and heavy for me.

We came here as a group of 8 and sat on the back patio. Love the back patio on a nice sunny day. We were the only people back there so it was nice. The service was good and everyone seem to enjoy their food. Good experience.

Hock Farm, you’re pretty damn good. I definitely recommend checking this place out. It’s a great atmosphere, super clean, friendly staff, and great for a place like Sacramento. The food is also great. I went during happy hour and got the sliders, pizza, and tacos. Oh yeah! I almost gave this place 4 stars instead of 5. Why? 1) They lost my order the last time I was there, Yes, I got a free drink out of it, but come on! 2) Sierra Nevada in a can! Seriously??? For reason #1, Hock Farm’s been forgiven. As far as reason #2 goes, y’all need to get some Sierra Nevada on tap like now. If you wanna save a few bucks, go to Costco and get the Paragary’s gift cards. $ 79.99 for $ 100 worth of Paragary’s. Then, swing by during happy hour and you’re good to go.

I came here Saturday night to celebrate a late anniversary dinner. We were greeted immediately by the host and I had asked her how long the wait is for two people(as the bar looked jam packed). She replied that the main dining area is reserved at the moment but told us that we can grab a seat at the bar. It was quite noisy so I didn’t ask when they would open the main dining area. There weren’t many seats open, but saw that a group of 4 were leaving a high top table. 2 ladies sat at the end of the table and we asked if it’s ok for us to join them. The upsetting part was that we waited 5 minutes and weren’t greeted yet. My boyfriend had to grab us two menus. 10 minutes go by and we still aren’t greeted. I was about to walk out but 2 stools opened up at the bar and we decided to migrate where we can actually get service. The bartender was very sweet and attentive. She greeted us right away and apologized to us about us not getting serviced where we had originally sat. We told her it’s out first time trying this place out and she explained about their bar choices and food choices. I had ordered the Cable Car cocktail, Little Gems salad and the Steak Frites for the entrée. The cable car was quite yummy. It is more on the sweet side, but since the rim was covered with cinnamon and sugar, I think next time I’ll just request sugar only as the cinnamon got over powering toward the end of the drink(or maybe request a higher sugar to cinnamon ratio). I was disappointed with the little gems salad, The description stated shaved radish & house vinaigrette. Once the salad came, I was very underwhelmed that it was just a spring salad. The house vinaigrette was decent, but there were only 3 slices of shaved radish. Honestly for a house salad that’s $ 7, I was expecting something a bit more exciting(or at least $ 7 worth). The steak frites dish was a good portion! I had asked my steak to be medium well and it came out more medium. Not a big deal, but as the steak settled throughout my meal, it became more read and a bit too tender(chewy) than my liking. I think the frites are lightly tossed in truffle oil, but tasted yummy and slightly crispy. Everything on the plate was delicious, besides the random side of greens(spring lettuce mix) on the plate. I’m not too sure why a pile of greens were on the plate(maybe to fill the plate), but I highly recommend that if you are going to put a reasonable pile of greens on the plate, please add some vinaigrette or something to it. It didn’t make any sense to me why it was on there and honestly it’s not needed. Overall, the experience was really nice. I had received some gift cards so I was happy to see that they got used toward a good meal. Word of advice, I have noticed that most, possibly all, restaurants don’t allow you to add tip onto your gift card so make sure you bring cash just in case. I totally forgot about that so we had to order something else so we could add a tip.

I have walked past this quaint restaurant near the Capitol so many times and finally decided to stop in for a drink last night right before closing time. I enjoyed the ambiance and the laid back semi formal atmosphere with craft drinks and a menu that looked delicious. Although I did not have the pleasure to dine here, I am making it a point to go back soon and try it out! I ordered just s glass of champagne and a Kentucky mule(I think) and big were absolutely delicious. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean and organized, decorated in a minimalist style for the holidays which was lovely. I would definitely recommend this spot, and I have yet to truly try it out!

Went for our work Christmas luncheon. The food is very fresh and homey, but with flavor. Even in our large party our drinks were always filled and they checked on us often. I got the roasted beet salad with heirloom squash soup. It was very healthy but tasty. Although midtown has a lot of great restaurants, this fits right in. I would come back.

Hmmmm Moscow Mule cocktails tasted like water. Never had one that was prepared in a cocktail shaker. This is a cocktail that is normally stirred. Bartender was obviously new and poorly trained. Cmon people we expect a top notch drink at this establishment. Bartender #2 was beyond obnoxious, don’t need to hear you verbalize every thought that goes through your head as you stock the speedwell. Food was pretty damn good.

This was one of my favorite restaurants in Sacramento! They have a small patio area enclosed with refurbished pallets and barrels used for tables. Great location to people watch and wait for a table. The interior décor uses rustic styles of the 1850’s with a dash modern fabricators from local artists. One of the first things you see is a California shaped table, perfect size and shape for friends to grab a drink, appetizers and good conversation. I started with Mai Tai(loved that the menu had this under an ode to the golden state) perfectly blended and strong! My friends had a summer spritz, very light and refreshing, a baby daddy beer, an IPA also a light drink. Also tried their Moscow mule, different taste as they allow you to choose your flavor beer from ginger-cranberry, citrus or peppercorn. I went with citrus and was not disappointed. We ordered fried green tomato’s for the table to start with, they were devoured very quickly. Our server told us the menu does change regularly and told us about the daily specials, one was a seared lamb with rice pilaf that I decided to go with. My friends ordered the Gnocchi with Cherry Tomatoes, Linguine & Clams(lots of garlic) and the Pork & Clams, everyone was very happy with their choices, We did all share a bite or two and mine was the table favorite. Even though we were all full from dinner we had to try one of their spectacular desserts, we went with the Butterscotch Pot de Crème with a Hazelnut brittle… so creamy it was the perfect ending to this whole experience.

It was 106 out and I was looking for a cool place for dinner. After calling around and inquiring about everyone’s AC I choose here. It was the perfect place. It was nice and cool. So many places don’t have adequate AC. All parking is paid, then at 6 it’s free parking on the street. It may be tricky depending on the time of day you come. The staff was very friendly. I came on a Friday and may have been the beginning of a 3 day weekend, but it was unusually dead inside. This was perfect for our needs. Service was great. We took our time ordering, trying a lot of different appetizers. Everything was fresh and tasty. We ordered a specialty lemonade that had jalapenos in it. Interesting. Strong at first, then we refilled it with water and it kept giving off flavor. Dinner was also delicious. Great ambiance. I’d come again. It was perfect for a relaxing evening out with my girlfriend.

Paragary’s restaurants have some nice iEat fixed price summer menus for July, $ 30 for 3 courses(Esquire Grill’s ran from July 6 – 17, Hock Farm runs July 20 – 25, extended July 27-August 1, 2015). FIRSTCOURSE Gulf Shrimp & Vierra Farms Summer Melon Salad Burrata with Santa Rosa Plums MAINCOURSE House-made Fettuccine with Shaved Summer Truffles Grilled Mary’s Chicken Paillard with Panzanella Crispy Pan-Fried Beeler Farm Pork Cutlet DESSERT Almond Cake with Apricots & Fresh Berries New Castle Stone Fruit Crumble Came in for dinner with my foodie friend Elaine L., reservations on OpenTable a cinch. Didn’t bother with valet or validation, street parking after 6pm is free, totally walkable. Tried to divide and conquer the menu by ordering different items and sharing bites. E. got the melon salad, pork, and fruit crumble. I had the burrata, chicken, and almond cake. The burrata was on point, in a sort of caprese way with tomatoes/basil/balsamic with plums thrown in – worked well. The melon salad was a twist on melon & prosciutto, subbing shrimp for the protein and dry-cured black olives for the perfect salty hit. The hints of mint and orange also balanced the dish out. The chicken was moist and tender, a little too much black pepper seasoning for my taste though. The panzanella was generous, although I mostly ate the tomatoes, cucumber, arugula and some of the toasted focaccia. Pretty filling plate! The pork cutlet was so huge, half of it was boxed and taken home for later! The almond cake, oh, what an almond cake it was. We’re sure it’s just almond flour and almond extract but after two slices, seriously left us wanting more. Where can I get the recipe? A little bit dry but was complemented by the zabaglione custard, blueberries and blackberries. The crumble topping was also delish, and inside were cherries, peaches, apricots, plums and a side of vanilla gelato. Yummy. Not too busy for a Tuesday night, service was slow but not in a bad way, more chill as we went from course to course, refilled the water carafe and enjoyed the meal. Anthony was our server. The daily smash(non-alcoholic beverage) was strawberry mint, which sounded like a nice refreshing option. We did take a look at the regular menu, usually are big fans of the mac ‘n cheese, but couldn’t pass up the deal. Cheers Hock Farm!

I was really looking forward to going out to a new place for dinner since we haven’t written any new Unilocal reviews in a while — but this meal was a bit of a disappointment for me. I had no idea this place was located on L Street amidst all the commotion. I was hungry and tired and didn’t feel like looking for parking, so we went for valet in front of the restaurant instead. If you validate inside, it only costs $ 7! Their menu is straightforward, and by straightforward I mean one page. But there are actually plenty of options! We started off with a small plate of shrimp and grits. I guess they take that as what it is– a small plate– not an appetizer, because they only brought us one spoon. so we proceeded to eat grits with a spoon and a fork… Aside from that, the grits were really good but the ancho chili sauce was a bit overwhelming since there was so much of it. For my entrée I was torn between the seasonal pizza or the linguine and clams, and I ended up choosing the latter. Mistake! I didn’t eat the hundred tomatoes that they put on the plate, and the clams were gritty and tasted like I was eating sand. I ended up just eating an $ 18 plate of pasta. On the plus side, the restaurant is beautiful. The layout is open and inviting and the lighting is great. Service was nothing to complain about either. Maybe I’d be willing to come back and try something else on the menu, but not anytime soon.
