Ordered #1 and 3 off dinner menu. Portions were huge for the price but quality was bad. Rice was dry and seemed to be old. Fried prawns had too much batter. Chicken was too chewy for my liking.

I’m not a fancy eater, I mean I eat in n out burger king and stuff like that so it’s not like I’m above anything but this place is awful, I like the woman who took care of us but the food was the worst I have ever had it ended up in the trash. The eggrolls looked like they had the black plague the rice was burnt the kung pao chicken was tasteless well it tasted like peanuts very bad and the chicken with Chinese greens are just disgusting it’s a bunch i think an spinach brother in a broth of salt and water and nothing else becasue it had not flavor. 27 dollars later the trash can had its moment. Those awful instant ramen taste better than anything I got from here and i will not be coming back

This is the dive bar version of Chinese food restaurants. It’s located in the sub-level of a downtown Victorian house and easy to miss from the street. The food is greasy and great! I’m sure it’s loaded with good old fashioned MSG, but it tastes great and it’s not an everyday item anyways. If you get one of the combo dishes to-go, expect it to be molded to the shape of the clam-shell container that it comes in because they stuff it so full of food. I’ve shared this location with several friends and everyone is amazed at the quality and value.

It was my first time at this place and it was amazing. The food is good. The pot stickers are to great and the portion sizes are huge. The services is great. However of you are in a rush this not he place to be the food takes a while to get done but once it comes out it’s good and worth the wait.

Went here reluctantly but the service and the food was a great. It’s definitely a divey Chinese spot, but everything that came out was fresh, hot, and the portions are biblical in size. If you’re looking for a cheap $ 8 dinner this is the place to go. I plan on supporting this small mom and pop hole in the wall for a very long time.

On my last day visiting Sacramento, I decided to try out a Chinese restaurant. Sacramento isn’t as well known for their Chinese cuisine as the big city to the south, San Francisco. Since I was feeling a little travel sick, I went in pursuit of a place that served congee and came across Gam Lei Sig. This restaurant is located in downtown Sacramento, though the location is a bit unusual. It is located in a house and seems to be in a space that looks like a ground level basement. The dining room is pretty utilitarian, though there is a TV playing Chinese programming. While this place is a hole in the wall eatery, they make for it with their food offerings. Came in for lunch. They have an inexpensive lunch specials menu, but I opted for a couple choices off another menu. My order consisted of sliced fish filet congee($ 5), beef cheong funn($ 2.95) and a pot of tea($ 1.25). The congee tasted the same as the bowls of congee that I have had in Seattle, but the portion is larger and lower priced. It is a really filling meal for the price point and suitable for a meal on its own. The beef cheong funn also known as rice noodle rolls looked like they were made freshly in-house based on the texture which seems homemade. I have had cheong funn before that were a bit bland, but the version here was nicely seasoned with the beef bits visible in the dish. As for the service, I thought it was good as the staff made me feel at home. Like family which is appropriate given the house setting of this restaurant. If you are looking for homestyle Chinese food, I would give Gam Lei Sig a try.

Third time here over the past 3 years. I always order something different to give the place a true rating. Each time I’ve been disappointed. This will be my last and final visit. I ordered the general chicken fried rice plate. It looked great when they slammed the plate in front of me. My stomach was growling and I couldn’t wait to take my first bite. Crunch, burned piece. I continued to eat it and most the chicken was over cooked borderline burned. It was so overlooked I could taste the burn flavor from the wok which completely killed the general chicken flavor. Authentic? If so I don’t like it.

I only ever get delivery and am always pleased. The people are really nice and the the servings are huge. Potstickers are terrific and don’t get me started on the fried calamari. Best bang for the buck chinese restaurant in Sac.

I’m only in town a few times a year from Southern California, discovered this place has porridge of which I love. Since then I’ve been making this my regular favorite restaurant. The place is small ~ good, keep the prices low, the employees are friendly ~ good, makes me comfortable. All for nothing if the food is bad? Hah, that’s the best part ~ everything I tried is great

This food this location all awful. well food taste not so awful but my food had hair in it and another customer had another foreign object but the waitress explained something(she responded to her in another language) and took her plate back. They returned my order and said sorry, I was pretty much over it. The restaurant was very small and very cold and the waiter spoke very minimal English. Portion size was large priced reasonably especially for being downtown but I would not return just do to sanitary concerns

Food is 5 star. Best hot and sour soup I’ve had in years, big fat pot stickers were delicious, too. Lemon chicken was big chunks of chicken NOT overwhelmed with sugary gummy sauce like most restaurants. And I wasn’t a puffy mess the next AM like I typically am after Chinese… another good sign. Big servings. Owner was involved, polite, attentive. Ambience was lame. Like the majority of Chinese restaurants, little attention given to comfort/aesthetics. Hard chairs, fluorescent lights, Formica tables, light blue walls, low ceiling, tv glaring. We will be back for the food/service!

Order for delivery, got their general chicken and bbq pork chow mein. Food came decently fast. I must say before even judging the food, they give you bang for your buck which is great. But to add to it, the food is good. The chow mein has a smokey taste which I look for when eating chow mein. The sauce for the general chicken was good to. Fast delivery, big portions, and delicious food can’t even complain!

Every time we come the food is excellent. The potstickers are good, I recommend the BBQ pork with green beans or asparagus when in season. Great portions at a reasonable price.

Atmosphere: The restaurant is located in a white house across Beers Books. It has an outside patio and inside seating. Their inside seating is small, which can only seat about twenty people. Upon arrival in picking up my to-go order, the restaurant looked like a mess(in my eyes). A table had newspapers everywhere and a pair of reading glasses and the front counter top was filled with clutter. Food: The food is very cheap and they give you A LOT for such a small price. I’ve only placed to-go orders at this restaurant because I didn’t feel like sitting at the restaurant. When I tried this place for the first time, I ordered the Wor Wonton Soup. It included vegetables, wontons, beef and chicken. The second time, I ordered the Sizzling Rice Soup and Hot and Sour Soup. All the soups were good; however, I enjoyed the Wor Wonton Soup the most. Service: Prompt service and friendly staff. If you are craving Chinese food and want the food cooked right away, come to this spot.

Before last week, I had never heard of Gam Lei Sig before. One day my mom told me she brought me pot stickers leftover from her lunch that were pretty good. I thought to myself, «Yeah, all pot stickers are pretty much the same» BUT I was wrong — these really are good! I think the cherry on top is their delicious sweet soy sauce. The next day my mom and I went with my boyfriend to Gam Lei Sig because I wanted to try them fresh, along with their chong fun, which my uncle said is good. The restaurant is located in a white house across from Beers Books. There’s plenty of street parking. There’s a patio outside, which is rare for a Chinese restaurant, but we headed inside. The owner is a friendly lady. All of the food is made by her/her recipes so it’s really authentic/homemade. We ordered the preserved egg/pork porridge, fried Chinese donut, pot stickers, beef chong fun, and bbq pork chong fun. The porridge/jook was the perfect consistency — not too thick or too runny. It is garnished with chopped scallions. It was hot and I burned my tongue, but it was worth it. The pork was flavorful and tender. The large bowl yields about 6 small bowls. The Chinese donut was perfectly fried and came with 12 pieces once cut. It really adds the perfect crunch to jook. An order of pot stickers comes with 8 and they bring you a bottle of the owner’s special mixed soy sauce. I suggest you mix the soy sauce with the hot chili oil on the table — yum! The meat mixture inside is flavorful and it doesn’t have too much cabbage. I think in the future I will ask for them to be pan fried a little longer, however, as I like them a little crispier. The chong fun is different than the average little rolled ones you get at typical dim sum places. These are big and the meat is semi falling out, but who cares about looks — it’s all about flavor! Once again, the soy sauce is served on the side so you can put as much as you want on it. I suggest you drench it. The bbq pork(cha sui) was tasty and soft, and the fun was the perfect texture — silky smooth. It’s not like dim sum places where the fun gets all hard and tough. I typically don’t like beef chong fun, but I tried this and it was good. The meat was soft, not slimy. There was a group of Chinese people talking, err yelling in Chinese(Chinese people talk LOUDLY without noticing it…) inside, which did not make for the most enjoyable experience, but I’ve learned how to tune it out. You can always sit outside if it bothers you lol. They do offer other«Americanized» favorites like fried rice and chow fun. I saw a white guy sitting outside by himself eating fried rice — he knows what’s up!(This also meant to me that you don’t have to order in Chinese like my mom did) Overall, the food is tasty and authentic — just be prepared for the food coma that will follow. After tax/tip, I think everything came to about $ 25 which is very reasonable given how much food we got. I would recommend and return! Next time I want to try the fish jook!

Ahh, yet another delectable hole in the wall in Sacramento. Gam Lei Sig, unlike most Chinese eateries, has an outdoor patio available. The prices here are great, and the food is even better! My parents and I ordered two of the flat rice noodle wrap and two bowls of the beef stew noodles. The portions were incredibly generous and the flavors were immaculate. The three of us could barely finish all the food that we ordered. The owner was extremely nice. She noticed that it was my first time there and treated me with a complimentary milk tea! Don’t let the dingy outer appearance fool you, this place is definitely a hidden gem. Give it a try!

For years I’ve had their takeout food delivered to me at lunch, but today I finally came to the actual restaurant! Which is probably the most unique«restaurant» I’ve seen in Sacramento because it’s really a house with small table seating outdoors and indoors. It’s definitely not fancy, but… unique(for lack of better words). The owner was super polite and welcoming, speaking in Chinese, and offering me a bowl of soup. If I were to rate their food/experience while dining in I would give them four stars. BUT if I were to rate their food on takeout/delivery I would give them two stars. For my first dine-in experience, I tried the beef chow fun and mu shu chicken. The beef chow fun was great! Everything from the flat noodles, flavor of the beef, onions, and bean sprouts were tasty and made very well. The mu shu chicken was a bit more bland. It came with wraps and hoisin sauce, but the chicken in the dish did not have any flavor. Although it was huge in size and the appearance looked promising, the flavor of mu shu chicken was pretty plain and if it weren’t for the hoisin sauce added to the wrap, it wouldn’t have much flavor at all. The egg drop soup was not bad, a little starchy, but decent. As far as take-out experiences, it’s hit or miss. My favorite has been their salt and pepper pork, but sometimes it’s so delicious and other times it has come too soggy and oily. The rice and noodle dishes are consistently decent, but other meat and veggies are sometimes mushy by the time it gets eaten. The food probably does not sit very well in the styrofoam containers and plastic bags. Plus if you factor in travel time, the quality of the food, especially the deep-fried ones, has probably diminished significantly, contributing to the sogginess and poor quality. The flavor of the food isn’t bad. The quality just gets ‘lost in transportation.‘ So if you want the best quality, it’s best to dine-in. But take-out isn’t too bad if it’s your only option. It really depends on what you order. I prefer to order Cantonese dishes, as opposed to other Asian special dishes. Their portions are huge and could probably feed two to three people. Oh yes, and the potstickers are fantastic here!

First floor of a house Indoor and outdoor seating Straight hole-in-the-wall Chinese spot with the NICEST people. I like the people more than I like the food. Lunch specials are quite a deal. You get a lot for Rice Plates starting at $ 5.25. Combos are a little more. It comes with soup and it’s always been this Egg Drop kind of soup that I don’t like. I was hoping there would be something amazing here but the only thing I’ve had that I would recommend is the Wor Wonton Soup.
