This gallery has beautiful southwestern artifacts and jewelry. The owner has a nice selection and most of it is genuine Native American made. He’s an honest guy who may even give you a discount to help you make your purchase! I came across a beautiful Zuni watch at a decent price which I will treasure. This is a friendly store and I will stop by again if I am in town.

The Gallery of the American West is a beautiful little store in Old Sacramento that promotes Classic Old Americana the way we might think of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood representing the Old Western Movie as a piece of vintage Americana cinema.
SETUP
Nestled nicely on K Street in Old Sacramento, this is one of my favorite go-​to stores to go traipse around and look at items while I am on my lunch break.
* There are beautiful pieces of artwork by artists both local and further abroad in the state
* There are some great vintage Native American pieces and jewelry that catch the eye and are for sale.
* There are so really cool inexpensive knick-​knacks that the tourist can walk away with to let their friends know that they were in «Old Sacramento.» ;)
THE LOWDOWN
This is a fun store to visit while wanderin the streets of Old Sacramento.

This unassuming gallery in the middle of tourist heavy Old Sac is an unbelievable treasure. This collection of California Native American artifacts, art pieces, antique and artisan jewelery is truly a labor of love by the owner, Bob Hickman.
Bob can give you information regarding the artist, the materials that were used, and historical context. If you’re a history fan, it’s truly a treat.
The antique and vintage jewelery is amazing to look at. At first glance, you won’t think much of some of the items. But at second glance, you’ll begin to notice amazing the craftsmanship. Really, the best part of buying this type of jewelry is the fact that you spend the time to talk about, learn and decide on what really touches your heart. And when you do make a purchase, it’s very meaningful.
Make sure to turn your head up along the shelves and spend some time looking at the handwoven baskets. Baskets are Bob’s area of expertise. They are amazing examples of the work done by various Indian tribes… Miwok, Pomo, Washoe, and others. There are also paintings and pottery to view.
I won’t go into details since I’m not in his profession, nor am I any sort of expert, but the items he acquires are true pieces art. You have to be a serious collector to afford the best of what he has. For the rest of us, it’s a great experience just to see and admire this type of art in a casual setting.
All in all, a terrific store.
