Good. Crispy chips that I’ve found unique to this place. I usually get a super burrito.. But those chips are hella addicting

I was craving Mexican food and decided to try this place out. It was amazing! I got the super beef burrito plus a mini chicken taco w/green sauce. The burrito was really good and the mini taco was great too– just very spicy, well for me at least. I’ll definitely be coming here again! I also love the chips they give you!

Why? Is the question I asked myself constantly while I waited 10 minutes before even being noticed. I asked myself why again, why am I still here after watching two patrons walk out for waiting for menus for too long. Throughout this review I will continue to ask why. Why did it take another 4 – 5 minutes before I could place my order? Why couldn’t I just place my order at the counter as I walked in? Why are you reading this? Why am I writing this? Why did I order a carne asada super burrito and got nothing of the sort, why didn’t I just walk out when I had the chance. Why did I waste $ 10.83 here? Why is this restaurant so dirty? Why would you go here after reading this? Maybe because you were hungry like I was and looking for a good experience. Well, save your money, Taqueria Girabaldi is right down the street. Don’t find yourself asking why like I did.

So good! Phil makes an amazing burrito. And the red hot sauce has this crazy nut taste that is great. I work close by and had walked by frequently over the past 3 years. I discovered it with a friend last summer and now we eat there about once a week. I’ve never had a bad dish.

Best burrito in Sacramento!!! I consider myself to be a bit of a burrito connoisseur, having lived in San Diego &SF for 17 years, let’s just say I’ve had some great Mexican food in my day. I got a super carnitas burrito today, and it was delicious! The cook was very cautious when I told him about my allergy to cilantro, he made my burrito exactly to my request — he crisped up the meat, warmed the tortilla on the grill and gave me fresh tomatoes and avocado(since I can’t have salsa and guac). Sooooo yummy!!!

We’ve been here a number of times(okay, I’m not sure of the EXACT number) over the years and the food here is consistently pretty wonderful and delicious. The other night we stopped in for a quick bite and I ordered the Baja Salad. It was great ! Basically, it’s a fajitas salad and and I ordered it with fish. Fish was cooked to perfection, tender and moist. Salad came with generous portions of the fish and grilled veggies, along with avocado and some crema. Owner asked me if I wanted some lime and then brought out a whole one freshly quartered. Was surprised to find chips under the lettuce — was a little disappointed at first, but then as I ate down the salad and the chips started soaking up the juices — you know where I’m going with that. Mm-m-m-m good. Also — beware their salsa is addicting. Seriously, I ate two bowls of it.

First time here. Ordered two asada and two pastor mini tacos. I wasn’t expecting it to be cash only and was a couple dollars short. I offered to change my order but the owner said it wasn’t a problem. The owner asked how spicy I like things and when I told him very he gave me a house bottle labelled, «danger, hot» all over it as well as a bottle of Dave’s Insanity ghost pepper sauce. The tacos were ready inside of 5 minutes. Both were equally delicious. The meat was grilled perfectly and the portions were more than ample. Quick, clean, simple street tacos and more than friendly service! I will definitely be coming back!

I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at El Herradero. The building isn’t much to look at, but the food is for real and the owner is really cool. I walked in an ordered a super burrito al pastor. The owner got to work making it behind the counter while talking to me and checking on another patron. He told me a little bit about how he makes the pastor and how pleased he was with today’s batch. A few anecdotes later, I was out the door with my food. I would have to agree with his assessment of the pastor, it was good indeed. The salsa that came on the side was very good as well.

Very good food! No one else in there but my husband and I. Only one guy working, Salsa was a little runny but great flavor! Highly recommend! He should definitely be getting more business than he is! My Husband suggests there should be more tomatoes or pico de gallo on the Taco Salad but otherwise delicious! He also had two asada tacos and he said he wish he had bought 4! I had the super Nachos and they were amazing! I also wish there were a little pico de gallo on my super nachos but they were great just the way they were! Def. recommend and its a little place but quiet and the employee was quiet, but nice!

Updating my post here as it’s been a few years, but unfortunately this place is no longer what it used to be and I haven’t returned since my last visit some months ago. The previous owner of the restaurant offered fantastic and authentic food but the newer owner let it go downhill… in a majorly disappointing way. The food was bland and old tasting and it seemed as though we received bottom of the bag generic brand chips. No thanks.

I always look to my Entertainment Book to help me try to find new places to eat and save some money too. We found this place in the book, so we drove to Arden to give it a try. Before we could even order, the pathetic owner refused the Entertainment Book coupon. He claimed that he never authorized it! Unbelievable liar! How would the coupon magically make it’s way into the book. What did they force this loser to advertise??! Hell no. The TRUTH is he lies because he has seller’s remorse. He advertises and then decides not to honor them when customers come in with them. Seems to be a trend with these false advertising goons who reneg on accepting what they offer as they have no sense of honor these days. They think by lying outright and not honoring coupons they can save their dump from closing any day. The truth is… they will be closing anyways due to their garbage food, BS attitudes and penny-counting ways. So, if you are Unilocaling this place thinking about trying it with your Entertainment Book coupon, don’t bother. Living Social? Forget it. THISWAYTHEYCANSHUTTHEIRDOORSFASTERSOTHEYQUITFOODPOISONINGPEOPLE. Entertainment contacted, Living social contacted, Better Business Bureau contacted, next will be Food and Safety commission. My friend and I routinely use our Entertainment Book to broaden our dining experience and, of course, to save some money. We found this place in the book, so we drove out there to try it last night at around 7:15 p.m. Wow. We couldn’t believe how disappointing the experience was for us… First of all, the owner refused the Entertainment Book coupon. He claimed that he canceled it long ago. So, if you are Unilocaling this place thinking about trying it with your Entertainment Book coupon, don’t bother. We decided to eat there anyways since we were hungry. After we placed our order, he said he only took cash. Really? Not even debit card? Let’s hope the food is at least decent, right? We told ourselves. I ordered fish burrito. It was so bland and the shredded cabbage was bitter. I could hardly see or taste fish. My boyfriend ordered a super burrito, and there was nothing super about it. I had half a burrito left because it was just not that interesting to eat, so I asked for a to-go box. He only had foil and doggie bag. The only thing that was worth one star was the salsa which had a nice bite to it. Needless to say, we will never go back there. We spent $ 16 for two very mediocre burritos at this run-down looking place with an owner who doesn’t really make us feel warm and welcome. Not again.

This was a great place to stop by for a quick bite to eat!!! The food is super authentic Mexican. It’s fast, easy and very affordable. I spent $ 7 on two carnitas tacos and a regular sized Horchata drink. It’s like having the convenience of fast food but it tastes sooo much better than any of the chains around. A whole lot healthier too! There’s simple tables and chairs with nice big windows if you decide to din in. Or you can make it to go. The owner of this establishment is a super nice man who told me the restaurant has been there over thirty years! You know they’ve got a good thing going when you’ve been around that long. If your interested in a more formal dine in experience try Kico’s Mexican restaurant next door. Otherwise, if your on a lunch break, come here! It’s all the benefits of a fine dining experience without the wait!

I’m horrible at math, but I’ve been to maybe ten million Mexican taquerias in the Sacramento region. So it’s hard to impress a seasoned vet like me if you’re not doing anything different, or doing it a lot worse. And that’s exactly what I got at El Herradero. First off, forget authenticity. Nothing tasted fresh and, like a previous reviewer, they said they were out of tamales when I asked for one. That’s not because they have a lot of customers, by the way, but because they have them delivered! Second, the meat in my tacos didn’t taste fresh at all. I was at the least looking for that stringy mexican beef that makes you think they killed the last half-starved cow in the pasture, but instead I got something that tasted like it had either been sitting out a while or frozen. Finally, the service seemed phoned in. No personality, barely an acknowledgement that I was there. What does all this add up to? I’m not returning.

Round that one star down to ½…this place is HORRIBLE!!! I really wanted to like it too, since it’s right across the street from my work. I’ve been wanting to try this place out for nearly a year and was really looking forward to some authentic Mexican. They’re anything BUT authentic! I ordered a 2 beef tacos for a co-worker and a 2-item combo plate for $ 8.25 — Tamale & Taco with rice & beans for myself… but wait… they were out of Tamale’s!!! How can you run out of tamale’s? I politely asked, «What…they’re made fresh in the morning and you just sold out already?» The owner, Phil said, «No, the company that delivers them to us didn’t show up.» Seriously!!! So, they’re pre-made, frozen tamales?! Okaaay. I changed my order to 2 tacos… one beef, one chicken. The total: $ 17.25 !!! I thought, this better be GOOD! While I was waiting for my order, I filled up my cup with soda… Mr Pibb… tasted it, and it obviously was out of syrup… it tasted flat. I let Phil know and he seemed put out when I mentioned it. No apologies, no attempt to make it right. He said to try another one. The lady cooking up the food had it done in less than 10mins and I was out the door with my food, to enjoy in my office, at work. I sat down at my desk and was shocked at how little food there was AND I was missing a taco! Not only that, they had drowned the one taco with sour cream and I don’t like sour cream! I was SO frustrated. I drove back across the street and said, «This is a combo plate… I should have 2 tacos, right?» They had this puzzled look on their face. Again, no apologies. Phil offered for me to have a «free» soda for my troubles but I didn’t care about a soda… I wanted my food! They KNEW that it was my first time there and know I was from the dealership across the street. You would think they would want to go above and beyond to make me a satisfied customer, but no. Their actions showed that they couldn’t care less. After they fixed me up another taco, I headed on back to the office. Opened up my to-go box and still wasn’t all that impressed, but hungry! I was SO disappointed after my first bite. Their beef had absolutely NO flavor whatsoever and was stuffed with lettuce. There was so much lettuce, you would have thought it was made by Subway! I decided to dig-in on the refried beans… those always taste good, right? Wrong again! Both, the rice AND beans were obviously previously frozen and had absolutely no flavor! The chicken taco was just disgusting and I didn’t even finish eating it. I thought to put some of their green salsa on it to help the flavor but one bite and I literally spit it out and wiped my tongue off with a napkin. Their green salsa tasted like fish oil!!! Sooo gross! I quickly rinsed my mouth out to get rid of that nasty fish taste, but 30mins later and my palate is still a bit fishy. YUUUCCCKKK! The only way these guys are staying in business is by buying the cheapest frozen crap and selling it for top dollar. I would be surprised if they were able to stay in business beyond 2012. What a shame. I would love it if the owner read this and made an effort to make it right. News & Review rated this place as being amongst the best, back in 2008. I would love to see them thrive again. After all, we are business neighbors and I would like to be able to give them another shot at earning my business and upgrading my review.

Super tasty burritos, screamin’ nachos. Pretty decent Mexican Food, and not too hard on the wallet. My son and I call this«The Horsie Place» since there’s a giant horse on the sign out front. The guy who’s there most of the time is friendly and gracious. There’s plenty of parking out back. Try the Carnitas Super Nachos! YUM!
