I’ve been coming here off and on for the past 15 years or so, when it was called Carniceria 2000. Last year I went back because I needed masa to make homemade tamales and I didn’t want to spend an hour in line at La Esperanza. Much to my surprise, the masa ended up being better than La Esparanza’s. I will be coming back this year for more masa. The Mexican pastries are also worth trying out.

Love this place! My go-to for fresh pastries and raw, marinated, home-made carnitas, carne asada, etc. If you can get it in Mexico, you can get it here! The deli is to the side and a grocery store makes up the rest of the suite. I pick up 5 – 10 pounds of carne asada, vacuum seal portions, and go to town on BBQ days. I couldn’t make street tacos without them! The staff is also really friendly and helpful… they even tease me about my mad Spanish speaking skills while trying to help me improve!

I give this place 5 stars. The owner here is Carlos. Down to earth guy, usually there 5 – 6 days a week. Real friendly and always providing the best customer service. His meat here is the best, gets it fresh on a daily basis. He has a killin Carnitas that he makes fresh every day. Store is always clean And tidy.

Okay, so I want to know. Why hasn’t this place been«discovered» by the Unilocal world? I’ve been coming here for years. It’s a little grocery store that specializes in meat. You name it, they have it. Some things I didn’t even know were to be eaten. But in the corner is the deli counter. Here is where the magic happens. They have tortas that are out of this world, and a host of other standard Mexican chow. I’d go with the Carnitas Torta with everything. It’s a mouthful. You can get Mexican sodas, chips, and anything else you’d like too. Oh, and take some of their house-made ceviche home with you. Excellente!

The food was good. I can’t give it 5 stars yet. I ordered the carne asada(steak) dinner plate(for lunch) with your choice of flour or corn tortillas($ 10.99) and my friend ordered the cheese enchilda and carnitas taco combo plate($ 6.99) and two soft drinks($ 1.99 each). $ 23+tip…not bad. There was enough food for the both of us. The carne asada flavor was very good. I LOVED the spanish rice. The cheese enchilda was good too. Atmosphere. Very authentic. I saw the waitress Dane C. was talking about. They had Spanish music playing and there’s plenty or room in the restaurant and not too crowded. We went on a Sunday afternoon around 1:00pm. The restaurant is connected to a little mom and pop grocery store and in the back of the store they sell fresh seafood and meats(chorizo $ 4.00/lb — will try it next time). They also had marinated meats for $ 2.99/lb which I remember my friends telling me they buy this and throw it on the BBQ for parties. Yummy! I’d go back to this place to try the other things on the menu. I forgot to ask where you buy the tamales another reviewer was talking about… the restaurant part or the grocery store part. Location: It’s in South Sac near the corner of 47th Ave and Franklin Blvd ON Franklin Blvd right across from the Campbell Soup plant. The whole parking lot is gated and you can see their sign easily.

Listen up! You got some friends coming over and you need to feed them cheap, good food. Slide over to South Sac and belly up to the deli. I’ll give you tips on ordering like a local. First order a pound of carnitas(car-knee-tahs), one large container of refried beans, & one large container of red rice. Once you get the goods belly up to the other side of the counterand get ½ a pound of ‘queso fresco’(kay-so fres-ko) Don Francisco(best cheese!). Turn around and get a can of salsa Herdez(casera sauce). Grab a stack of tostadas, avocado, limes & cold cerveza(beer) and get home. Cut up the carnitas & crumble the cheese into separate bowls. Do the same for the beans, avocado, rice and salsa(unless you don’t mind eating out of a styofoam container). I highly recommend margaritas with this, but the beer is nice. This my friend will put you on the map as the best-ass-kicking meal you’ve ever made! I get people moaning at the table biting into the tostadas. For those who don’t eat pork there is some amazing ‘ceviche’ which is a fish cocktail. Makes amazing tostadas, too. This is as good as it gets. So, go out there and enjoy some dang good eats.

One word… CARNITAS! This is pretty much as good as any homemade carnitas I have ever had. Usually get a couple pounds of it to go when I have taco night. Can not go wrong. If you don’t eat pork, you better start.

We had a funeral to go to(in nearby Land Park), so when the services ended… we came to CL#2 to buy tamales for take-home… Ended up sitting down and eating a full meal together. I’d never been in here before today… but my wife has been here several times with her business associates. I’d eaten the tamales twice, once at the Unilocal holiday potluck and once when my wife brought them home. I ordered Mole chicken platter, and wifey had the Birria(goat) platter. We also ordered a «small» bowl of Pozole(hominy stew with pork feet & pork cubes… similar to Menudo except without the tripe.). We also ordered one dozen tamales to take home.(Total bill including tax, tip and a Tecate for the designated non-driver= $ 47). We still have enough food for two more meals! Daugher ate most of the Posole when we brought it home. Probably some of the best mexican food in the Sacramento area. Definitely some of the most authentic. Dane H. is correct… two of the waitresses we saw that afternoon are super cute. Ours also had a sense of humor when we ordered the dozen tamales, she asked«Is that for here or to go?» in spanish to my wife. Great place in south Sac… makes you feel like you’re in Mexico!!!

Go here for some real, authentic Mexican food. It’s deli counter service, and the line can get pretty long. That’s a good sign. Had a few carnitas tacos w/guacamole. The portions were huge and the pork was cooked very tender and moist. I was full by the 2nd taco(but I shoved the 3rd one down anyways cuz it was so good!). I also tried the queso only quesadilla. Nothing great, and the $ 4.00 price tag knocked off a star from what otherwise would be a 5 star rating of this place. I can’t wait to try a super burrito on my next visit, very well priced at only $ 4. This location on the corner of Franklin and Fruitridge has at least 3 other taquerias to compete with. But since one of those is Jimboy’s, there’s really not much competition.

We had lunch her today for the umpteenth time in the past 3 years and I realized I hadn’t turned anyone onto this gem yet, so listen up! The chef is from Mexico and makes everything from scratch – he hasn’t been corrupted by Sysco or S.E. Rykoff like most of the other Mexican joints in town – probably because they are owned by the Mexican market next door. My partner always wants to go here when she’s got the cravin’ for enchiladas and Monday is enchilada day. I always go for something else, but I’m always eyeing her enchiladas… they are pretty awesome and made fresh with very tasty homemade red sauce. $ 5.99. Today I saw some Mexican guys chowing down on something that looked good, so I asked the server what it was. «Carne Asada” – big slabs of thin beef steaks smothered in grilled onions with slices of avocado on top. It was great with the pile of corn tortillas they give you – enough for about 6 or 7DIY tacos – I took half of it to go, it was so much food. Served with rice and beans – $ 8.99. I’ve had their Cocido in the past, which is beef soup in homemade stock with vegetables – another winner. Their sopas are great, too. They also have really good chile rojo and chile verde. Ask for a little of both – Christmas on a plate! They’re across from Campbell Soup which might explain their only misstep – the Pace picante sauce that they automatically bring with the generous basket of chips. Be sure and ask for the Salsa de chile de guajillo – it’s the tastiest table salsa in town – they automatically bring it for me! if you’ve still got room, go next door and get an Arros con Leche popsicle, and buy some marinated carne asada to take home and grill. UPDATE(of sorts): I see some of you have checked out my review, but have not chimed in about how great this place is – keeping it to yourself? hmmm? We still come here once every coupla weeks and it’s still great. Don’t forget Monday is enchilada day! I love the cute little waitress with the glasses! She is so sweet!
