Every time I come the fish is always hot and fresh… These ladies know what there doing when it comes to good fried fish… Never a problem when I eat here… Big portions for a decent price!

So, I’m really trying to eat and live a healthier lifestyle, and if you’re doing the same, don’t go here… But if you are really craving something, anything, EVERYTHING fried, this is your place. My in-laws wanted to eat here, cause it’s nearby and they make foods fast and taste good. I love fried food once in a while, and this place specializes in exactly that. Real tasty fish and chips and everything in between. All foods come out consistent in color and texture. The fish was flakey and moist, fired onions were perfect, and zucchini came out delicious. Of course the fries were spot on. I’ve have not seen anything burned or brownish in color. The batter was very tasty as well. The place is old, but it was clean for the most part. They probably haven’t and won’t upgrade there dining area anytime soon, or at all. But it feels like a place you come here to eat and go. You come here for the friedness.

Just bought a house down the street and decided to try this place. I will admit I was skeptical at first. I ordered the sea food sampler. It came with one fish, 2 oysters, 2 scallops, 3 prawns, and chips(frys). The food was great nice and crispy. I don’t have one complaint about the food. The restraint is a hole in the wall spot and the furniture is old but I knew that by looking at the out side. I will definitely be coming back here!!!

When i went there i got fish and fries. I decided to get some water too. I figured that the water would be colder if it had ice in it. So, i filled the cup with ice, and the ice was chippy, and it was filling up my cup up so then i really could not put water in it. So, i apparently did not get ice in it and the water was not cold. I finally got my fish and fries, and the fries were so hot, it just felt like i burned all my taste buds off. I tried my fish and that was even worse. I waited like 30 minutes and it was still hot, but i tried it and it was ok. Thank you, captian fish & chips for understanding. I hope next time i go there it will be better. Another thing is too that they didnt have many great items, and the items seemed gross too. Like cat fish, but the only«ok» thing was the fish and chips. Add better items to your menu! And cook the fish the right way.

Unfortunately I experienced disrespect from a Korean lady when I called to complain about my suppose to be prawns that were bite size shrimp. She was very rude and would not return my money or replace the order after paying a pricey $ 14 bucks. I will not be patronizing them again. Very rude people and they are not into customer satisfaction.

Great hole in the wall spot… they just need to offer collard greens and mac n cheese. Then it’s a 5 starr restaurant.

The prices are fair, but the food just wasn’t that good. The batter is extremely bland.

This is one of those great little hole in the wall places; don’t let the looks of the building fool you. The fish and chicken are always crispy, not greasy, and fried fresh for you while you wait.

I don’t know how you can go wrong with fish and chips. It looks a little ran down and small but it’s one of the very few good fish and chips joints around nowadays. The folks there are very nice and walk the food to your table. It’s never really packed which is good for us but not sure if it’s good for them haha The place could be a little cleaner but I’ve seen worse. Check them out! It’s always my go-to place. Good portions, great taste, and good service. I don’t think you can beat that :)

So I’ve been here a few times before and must say the food is good but a bit over priced. I ordered fried mushrooms and asked does it come with Ranch and of course it does. However the cup is «extra» small, and it cost $.25 for each extra cup. Ummmm Yeah«I’ll need about 10» …ridiculous especially considering I just spent $ 15.00.

Gotta love them hole in the wall places, don’t let the looks fool you. The fish is always crispy and not greasy as other places. The ladies are always welcoming and cook the food fast, but call ahead to avoid the sometimes long wait.

Prices were kinda okay I guess(usually u order fish and chips at a diner or joint it would be 8 – 10 bucks anyway) But they were super busy, it was hot in there which made it uncomfortable to sit and eat(i suggest togo) The tables felt oily … And not everything is fresh… Freshly fried… Yes . But that doesn’t mean they use frozen seafood. Soooo, it was… Just ok.

Excellent fish. I didn’t try the onion rings or other sides, but I recommend doing so and staying away from the chips/fries(tasted like they were originally frozen — as you would find in a grocery store). A «Fish n Chips» restaurant should really make their chips fresh. Good price for the portion size, but recommend sticking to the fish.

I had to come back and edit this. I originally gave them 4 stars but after last night I took it down to 3. I got there a few minutes before closing. The doors were wide open and they were standing behind the counter talking. I went in to place an order and they said they were closed and their fryers were off. I’m sorry, but if you say you are open until 9 pm you take new customers until 9PM. I spent 20 years cooking in restaurants and you don’t turn customers away before you are closed. Once you are closed and you have cooked the last customers food THEN you shut down the fryers and clean and close up. They would have had plenty of time to get my order finished before closing. They lost a sale of at least $ 20 – 25 and may lose me as a customer if they pull such a stunt again. I am about to go back to this place right now before they close in 30 minutes but thought I would leave a short review. We had fish, fries, onion rings and hush puppies and it was all absolutely perfect. We are going to make this a new regular fish place. However, they have the most sad excuse for tartar sauce that I have ever experienced. We sat down at the table, looked for tartar sauce, squirted some stuff out of the two bottles with white stuff inside and neither closely resembled tartar sauce nor tasted like it. The lady behind the counter(great service, by the way) seemed confused that we asked for tartar sauce and said«It’s right there». One turned out to be Ranch and one was their idea of tartar sauce. Both were very thin liquids. We ended up having our food bagged and we took it home after stopping off at the store to buy some real tartar sauce. If they get a better tartar sauce recipe I will be glad to sit and eat there. But for now, takeout only so I can use my own tartar sauce.

I really like this place the food was crispy and fried fresh(so there was a little wait) I did notice that there wasn’t salt added to the fries which can be good if you have high blood pressure(you always can add it latter). The pricing was pretty standard for a fish and chip place. What I really liked is that the ladies gave me everything I needed(napkins, malt vinegar, tartar sauce, etc) with out asking. I definately will come back if I’m in the area and want some fried goodness.

Captain Fish & Chips is not located in the best area and it’s not a fancy restaurant. They do have tables, but it’s more a take-out place. What matters is that I have found the proprietors to be pleasant, their prices reasonable, and most importantly, their food is delicious. I get the Pollock Fish, and I love their onion rings. I find myself wondering why someone would go to any other fish and chips shop when the portions, price and flavor of what you get at Captain’s is so much better … Obviously, only because they have not tried this place yet.

Generally don’t go out to fish and chips, but this place is pretty good. The fish is reasonably sized, and atop a «small» serving of crinkle cut fries, that i found… not soggy… but soft, as compared to a thicker more crunchy type. They are unsalted, which I prefer. There is salt on the table though :) Also ordered the mushrooms which didn’t disappoint. Came here with my Grandfather who can be a picky man when it comes to his food. He absolutely loved it — so much so that we went back the next day. Only thing we didn’t favor about the food is the tartar sauce. The sauce there is a creamier texture than we’re used to and you don’t get that thick pickle taste.

I have been coming to Captain Fish and Chips every six months or so for years now. I always get the three piece Pollock fish and chips. It is definitely the best bang for your buck. You get three nice sized deep fried Pollock fillets over a small pile of previously frozen crinkle cut fries for less than ten dollars. I had a bowl of clam chowder the last time I was there. It definitely was not out of a can. It was thick and creamy with large chunks of potatoes but not a lot of clams and not much flavor. I recommend you stick with the Pollock. Don’t forget to squeeze a little lemon on it and dip it in some tarter sauce. It may not be a gourmet meal but it is a whole hell of a lot better than Long John Silvers. Three and a half stars.

This little eatery is your typical«hole in the wall» style establishment. Nothing special about the décor, and as a matter of fact, the only outstandingly negative thing that first comes to mind, is that the chairs were uncomfortable. The chair backs sit straight up, forcing you to have perfect posture. My back is just not in to that! But, it’s the food that draws us here. While they have some tempting selections of deep fried options, I have only(as yet) ordered what they are popular for — fish and chips. The fish they use is a delicate, flaky, whitefish called Pollock. Perfectly cooked, not too greasy, and best of all not fishy tasting! We each ordered the 2 piece fish meal with fries(AKA chips) and a drink. It was plenty enough food for my appetite. Although you can order as much fish as you think you can eat. The chips were pretty good, and tasted about average as you would find in most restaurants that serve fries. Crispy on the outside with just the right amount of salt. Included were lemon slices and squeezable bottles of ketchup, tarter sauce and cocktail sauces placed on the table that you serve yourself, along with the traditional malt vinegar bottle. If you refill your drink at the self serve soda fountain, they charge an extra 25 cents. I imagine they had to do this because of people taking advantage of over refilling their drinks. After all, this is not an upper class area of South Sac. The food was very satisfying and hit the spot! The owners were also quite pleasant and friendly, even while they were busy working. We let them know how much we enjoyed the food, and they were very appreciative of the compliments as we waived goodbye.
