This place is a classic ‘hole in the wall’ you would never notice. It is kind of small so when the lunch rush comes in, it is PACKED. For good reason though. Not only is their food delicious, but they have fast and polite service, very large portions and great prices. I would love to go back again but it is temporarily closed for re-modeling. OPENUPSOON!

Well, I’ve been working downtown since early August and I finally got desperate for Nachos. After looking around at several Mexican restaurants on Unilocal,I decided to try this place. Why? Because the picture of the nachos someone posted looked amazing. Guess what, they are amazing. And, I took my own picture. It looks pretty amazing, right? I got the Carnitas nachos. Great Nachos. Maybe next time I will try something else but I have a hard time changing my preference once I find something I like.

I had a veggie tostada. Delish! Cabbage instead of lettuce, and the onion sauce makes all the diff. Reasonably priced

Quantity over Quality They’re located right across from Cesar Chavez Park which is walking distance from where I work. If you are on a budget, craving Mexican food and you are super hungry this is the spot to go to! I usually order the PEPE Fries which I think is about $ 7. The portion is pretty big and I can never finish it! They still provide chips and salsa with that order. I’ve also order the breakfast burrito which is huge and is only $ 4.75! Also comes with chips and salsa. I eat about a third of it and it will last throughout the day(another third for my lunch and the last third for my dinner). It is very fulfilling. The burrito does get pretty greasy and you definitely get stuffed quickly. The food is pretty decent but like I said quantity over quality. If I want quality I’d probably go somewhere else. The employees here are friendly. The only thing I don’t like is that the kitchen is right in the front where everyone sees them cooking. They don’t wear gloves. EEK! So I’m just hoping their hands are clean! One time I ordered the PEPE Fries and it was literally half the box but I was too hungry to even complain. So they are a little inconsistent about that. That is why I give them only three stars.

This is some of the only decent mexican food within walking distance of the Capitol. Fatty GIANT burritos. Delicious tacos. Yumminess abound. INFORTUNADAMENTE they are frequently missing entire food items(like, chicken!), so I had to take them down a peg. If you’re in the area, want delicious mexican, and aren’t especially picky about what variety of delicious it is, Cinco is your jam.

Considering it’s just a little taqueria it’s incredible. Great large portions and with Alejandro’s around the corner I’m amazed it wasn’t busier for lunch. Alejandro’s is quite bad in comparison. Come here and eat delicious food!

So the tacos have improved and they sell them for $ 1 on Wednesdays! They don’t have a salsa bar, but bring chips and salsa to you. I like this place because it is cheap and filling. Even when tacos are $ 1.75, they are still cheap. I like that they give you grilled onions and a juicy slice of lime with the tacos. I’ll order 3 – 4 of these bad boys and my boyfriend will order 6 – 7. I used to order burritos, but I can never finish them. Wednesday has gotten really busy, but you can always order takeout! I also liked the mini chimichanga. The regular chimichanga is too big for a small lady like me. I like Pepe’s fries with carne asada and my boyfriend likes carnitas on Pepe’s fries. They are not the best in town, but I’m a fan for lunch when it’s walking distance!

Meh. Why is it so hard to find a place downtown that has a decent burrito? Why on earth can’t someone just open a goddamn adalbertos, for christ’s sake? I judge all mexican takeout places on the same item… a vegetarian super burrito w extra guacamole and light rice and the one here was pretty blah. The first one I ordered had zero guac and zero sour cream in it, so i had them remake it. After a bit of attitude from the cook(mostly directed at the register girl), they remake it and I take the burrito back to work. Still barely any guac and sour cream. If you are charging 6.50 for a burrito, it better have detectable levels of both. The beans were pretty watery too, which made the burrito border line impossible to eat. Salsas were good, but I don’t think I’ll be back. Bettter options nearby.

Came in one day while wandering J St and suddenly had this taco craving. Oh, who am I kidding? I always have a taco craving. Anyway, the place looked simple, divey, and authentic. Right up my alley. I ordered two carne asada tacos and a

Even though it was 18th of September, it felt like a cinco de Mayo day. I read some of the reviews here and I was surprised a lot of people gave this place 4⁄5 stars, so I had to try it out for myself. I was starving and I read that the chimichangas were huge, so I ordered one with carnitas to go. After waiting about 5 minutes, I received my order… it was huge. I ordered my chimichanga to go so it came covered in sauce in a Styrofoam box with a bag of chips and salsa. As I carried my bag full of goodies(enough for two) back to my desk, I felt like a fatty. When I got to my desk, I realized I received two forks instead of a fork and knife. I was still able to pry my carnitas chimichanga apart, but having a knife would have better to disassemble this wet burrito. The carnitas were a little salty and dry, but the sauce helped. If you get a chimichanga, I would suggest eating it there as it got a little soggy from the steam and the to go box. The chips were thin and crispy and the salsa was very delicious. It wasn’t pico de gayo, but more of a purée with some extra flavor. The prices are low and the portions are huge, which is always good in my book. The staff was super friendly and made me feel welcome when I was ordering. 5 De Mayo is only a block from my work, so I think I found my new go to mexican place during the week.

Came here for lunch with two coworkers. The place was kind of gross and unclean looking. Service was apathetic at best. Yes, their tacos are super cheap! No, they aren’t worth it. I ordered a steak taco which was 80% gristle and fat. The meat had no flavor that I would consider pleasant and was barely edible. I pretty much ended up with an onion and cilantro taco with three or four teeny pieces of edible meat in it. My coworker got a wet burrito of some sort that he wasn’t a fan of either and gave him some — ahem — issues later that day. The salsa was watery and gross. So not impressed, won’t be back.

This is a very welcomed addition to the Downtown grid. I made the mistake of pre-judging this place thinking it would be as bad as the former taqueria that occupied this space because very little changes have been made to its appearance; I was very wrong. Their food is fresh, filling and affordable. I have tried the wet burrito and the chimichanga, both of which are almost the size of a football and both were super good. The red enchilada sauce is legit, not canned like the last place. I have also tried the nachos which definitely hit the spot if you’re in the mood. Get anything with steak, it’s very good. They no longer have a self-serve salsa bar, but instead bring chips and salsa to your table; a good way to cut down on congestion. Good food, friendly staff. Check them out any time after 1PM because I take my lunch at noon and I don’t like having to order to-go.
