Full disclosure I work across the street and dine here out of sheer laziness. While the prices are low the poor quality of the food is unforgivable. Everything appears to be processed or previously frozen. I guess you can get away with breakfast, eggs, toast, hash browns but how do you mess up a Greek salad at a Greek Coney Island? Our server was obviously a newbe so we ignored the gaps in service, lack of refills and dressing on the salad. But what I can’t forgive is slimy iceberg lettuce and super fatty chicken in the Greek Salad. I know that it’s easy to order everything from Sysco’s but come on. I don’t eat processed, poor quality food at home so why would I eat it in a restaurant?

nice simple diner with fast and efficient service. My salmon salad was delicious and my mom-in law liked her fried fish dinner. Great for families

I like the atmosphere, but the food was disappointing. I ordered a French dip which was served on a hot dog bun(smallest sandwich in the world) and my boyfriend got breakfast. He ordered bacon but for sausage, super dry/pretty cold sausage. Really hoped for more.

They’re super quick whenever I call in a pick up order for breakfast in the morning. The prices are great. The food is good old diner food. I’ve never dined in but it seems like an older crowd and lots of regulars.

This place is just average, nothing to out of the way for. Pretty good service and food sometimes can be hit and miss. I think the food is a little hight priced but I just its the location.

Jimi’s offers a huge menu and a lots of seating. They are definitely best at American food while the Italian, Greek, etc. are OK but not stellar. Jimi’s definitely has a kitschy feel since they probably haven’t renovated the building in 30 years. Nonetheless, its a great place to go for breakfast, they are always busy on weekends but still offer quick service. Jimi’s has an impressive bottle/can beer selection for a family restaurant; more microbrews and local beer than many bars. It’s also one of few places on Washington Ave. that has their own private lot.

This is one of our favorite breakfast spots. The food is very tasty and they have a large menu. Service is quick and friendly. The best part is that they have a parking lot and street parking so you’re not left plugging meters and walking far!

Jimi’s is an awesome place to grab brunch on a Saturday or Sunday. Way higher quality food than a Coney Island but the same style food. Not trendy by any means, but a perfect place to grab a quite breakfast or brunch. BONUS: If you are like me and like to booze frequently with your Saturday/Sunday brunch… They do serve alcohol!!! Ding ding ding. Side note — Jimi will come out to talk to you and possibly ring up your tab. Super nice guy to say the least. Blue berry pancakes made my girlfriend weep and she begs me to go back.

Had a nice breakfast here, good coffee, nice waitress, tasty omelet(I like when the veggies are cooked in the eggs because I like mine without cheese), and the hash browns were nice and crispy. Great prices, easy in and out and on-site parking. Good breakfast spot

I love the French Onion soup. It’s exactly the way I think it should be, just as cheesy as it is soupy. I’m in a book club that was having a hard time finding a regular place until we tried the banquet room at Jimi’s. It’s quite a cozy location. There’s wine on the menu, which is necessary for a book club. The food is good with cheap prices and huge portions. You’ll probably need a box and get two meals for the price of one. I’m not sure if I’ve actually met Jimi. He might have been the man who came out when I ordered saganaki and asked, «Who wanted to be blown up?». Either way, it was good.

Having a food fight with your hubby? Try this place. Get a local beer, decent glass of wine, full well bar, or domestic beer. Soups are good but super salty. The have a broiled fish with green beans rice and tomato sauce. Decent not amazing, but it solves a food fight.

Perennial Royal Oak hang out. Standard diner fare with a touch if friendliness. Dinermate got the Ground Round Burger(with the recommended sliced onions) and fries. He says the burger was outstanding but the fries were iffy. He gives it a 3+. I had the«Philadelphia» Sandwich, and which was the standard cheese steak. It was good but the meat was a little dry. I also started with the hot chocolate which wasn’t hot but immediately drinkable. Service could have been better, but I liked the fact that she didn’t serve us and plop down a check. In fact she waited until we’d eaten and the dishes were cleared before offering the check. That was a nice switch. Way better than a greasy spoon, but still a diner.

Jimi’s is what I would refer to as an «old person restaurant» and it has it’s pro’s and con’s. The location, convenient parking(which can be hard to come by in Royal Oak) and quick service are the best parts. That being said, you may or may not want to actually eat the food you are served. I was there last weekend, we were starving and just wanted something fast and easy for lunch. The french onion soup was good, a little too salty but rich and flavorful. The meatloaf was cold and had a strange flavor, not good and ended up being sent back. The green beans were clearly from a can and unsalted, had no flavor at all. Our server was friendly and had no problem taking the meatloaf off of the bill for us. This is one of those places that I will probably return to for convenience but it’s best to stick with breakfast or typical coney fare.

Returned here recently for lunch with my hubby and my twins in tow. They aren’t up to par on their table manners yet, so we created quite a mess. The waitress seated us in a place where we could have both babies’ high chairs in reach of both parents(which is hard because if you have ever tried to put 2 of those things next to each other, the bases are so wide it doesn’t work well). Then as we made a huge mess, the waitress & manager assured us that since they are Family Friendly, we shouldn’t feel bad about it. Talk about Music to My Ears– mom doesn’t have to clean up the kids’ mess??? Long story short, they have good food and are very kid-friendly. Also, I like the fact that they offer a buffalo burger. What other little diners around here do that?

Jimi’s Restaurant is two parts cafeteria, one part Greek restaurant, one part coney. The end result is Detroit’s equivalent of a greasy spoon. With slightly higher prices than the average diner, and a slightly broader menu, Jimi’s sort of qualifies as an American restaurant. No surprises are await here: burgers, sandwiches, oodles of French fries, a few attempts at salads, and breakfast options for those so inclined. I doubt the menu has changed much in twenty-five years, and if you feel like you are eating lunch in high school again, the effect is probably intentional. The beau, his parents, and I end up here on occasion, usually after a major Royal Oak festival clogs up every restaurant from Washington to Huntington Woods and back. I resolve myself to a rather dull culinary experience of an omelet or a hamburger that proves passable. Remember the meh mouthfuls of sandwich or burger you took while discussing a math assignment or how So-and-So was so weird? It comes right back when you have a fork poised in one hand, sitting elbow to elbow with your fellow diners in Jimi’s. In truth, I can find better at any one of the restaurants in the area for about the same price, but sometimes availability and parking count over quality. The preparation is extremely inconsistent, and the worst culprits are soggy French fries and pop mix that seems off whenever we visited. Syrup sweet or metallic with an inundation of too much seltzer/soda water, I don’t recommend drinking it. Go for tea or coffee or milk instead. Jimi’s has a bit to offer the weary family who just wants the kids fed or when you’re on the run and don’t care to drive to National Coney or spend more than $ 6 on a meal, but it has little to recommend it other than nostalgia.

This place is a breath of fresh air for Royal Oak since 1928! Here’s what you get: Alcohol — a limited beer and drink(wine and liquor) menu and average diner fare. It’s also cheap as a mug. Maybe not the drinks(average prices) but the food. I go here for breakfast and I walk out with a $ 10 tab plus tip for 2 people. So if you’re a cheap ass like myself… it’s great! The food is aight. It’s just your average diner food. No complaints with the staff A — OK! Oh and they have FREE private parking which is nice for downtown RO! What you don’t get: This place isn’t hip. Grandpa Joe is in there drinking is morning coffee while reading the paper. You won’t see exotic mustaches being worn by 20 year old boys and no tight legging little girls with horse back riding boots. Like I said above, a breath of fresh air. Keeping RO real… I DIGIT.

Every time I drive by at lunch, it seems to be full, so I put it on my list of places to try. Tried to go there last week, but they were filming in the restaurant and some of the local street scenes. Forgot to ask what they were filming. The clientele did raise my ‘gray hair’ alert. To say it was an older crowd would be a true statement. Some families, the local RO detectives. Owners were scurrying about, saying hello to regulars. Very comfortable in those respects. Very typical menu. Breakfast, coneys, burgers, salads, sandwiches. Not a great deal. Tried a coney and the large Greek salad. The salad was huge and they didn’t skimp on ingredients — must have been nearly a pound of feta on it. Everything was good including service, but unremarkable. Bottom line, I’ll come back, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go there.

It happened. After taking our small child out to various restaurants over the past 16 months or so, we have been lucky to be able to dine relatively drama free. With limited time available, coupled with a hankering suspicion that said child hadn’t taken a proper nap at daycare that day — we decided to finally try Jimi’s Restaurant. Jimi’s has quite the menu — so it’s not hard to find something to order. We both stuck to the Greek options on the menu, and ordered saganaki as well. The saganaki was delish– and all was going well. Our main dishes arrived, and we were happy to see that we would not be going home hungry. But THEN, the meltdown occurred. Said child decided it was time to put us through the parental ringer. When we finally threw in the towel and decided that we had no option but to leave, we were especially glad for our server’s assistance. While I was taking said screaming child out to the car, the waitress boxed up all of our food and even poured to-go cup beverages for us. She helped make the process as seamless as possible, and didn’t make us feel like miscreants by acknowledging that she had a little one at home and knows how it can be. Moral of the story– great variety on the menu, decent food, pretty good value, and great service. It’s not like I would go out of my way to come to Jimi’s, but if in the area and in the mood for something less high maintenance than typical Royal Oak — I would not hesitate to revisit. Also– wifi and free parking. Yippee.

After rolling out of bed and throwing on some clothing articles that seemed to go together, I drove to Jimi’s in Downtown Royal Oak to meet Jeffrey B. and Theresa for breakfast. The others are dedicated enough to get up early and sing in the church choir. I prefer to sleep and save people from listening to me sing off key. I’ve been to Jimi’s several times for breakfast, and I’ve only had the breakfast items here. It has consistently been very good. I normally get the standards of eggs, hash browns, one of the Big Three Breakfast Meats(Bacon, Sausage, Ham). All are cooked perfectly as they should be. The best part of Jimi’s is the price. I think you can get the Jimi’s breakfast special of 2 eggs, hasbrowns, 4 strips bacon and toast for about $ 4, which is an amazing deal for A LOT of food. I think the coffee is ok, but not stellar. I am sure I’ll be back to Jimi’s on another morning. It’s a good location and a good price.

I went to Jimis based on the great reviews on Unilocal.I was guided true again. Jimi’s is a simple family-style coney island. I had a ham and cheese omelet. It was stuffed with innards and I’m pretty sure whatever hen laid these eggs retired due to the immensity of the meal. My accompaniment ordered some sort of super-awsome sandwich with chicken, cheese and bacon(also known as the American Trifecta of Cholesterol). Even the waiter said that it sounded good. Speaking of which, the service was excellent, especially the coffee top-off service. The mug of coffee never reached half-empty before someone came by to top it off. Jimi’s dosen’t have the 24 hour draw that Leo’s has down the street, but if my family came to town, I would much rather take them here than Leo’s. Jimi’s place is more of a meal(and a deal).
