I like their food… but sad to say they closed their business… Later the place will become a Phở restaurant…:(

Excellent food quality, not too oil and salty. Must try crab tofu soup and sliced tofu.

I am by no way an expert on Shanghainese food but only having been here once, I would rather prefer Shanghailander Palace. JZ Restaurant is located in the Galleria plaza near Yoshinoya. The parking lot is a nightmare, especially with all the restaurants in the plaza. Most definitely not enough parking spaces. On a Sunday night, my family and I came here for a family dinner as we knew that we would probably have to wait a long time for a 10+ party for Shanghailander Palace without having made a reservation beforehand. JZ Restaurant was quite empty when we arrived for a 7:30 pm dinner, but a few parties trickled in while we were eating our meal. White rice is not provided unless you ask for it, and if so, they are provided by the bowls and not the containers. The fried fish didn’t look like the best quality of oil was used, it was either over fried or re-used oil as it was very yellow. The small sweet and sour pork bites were also mostly just flour, not much meat. They do have an extensive menu and service was okay, but we found their prices to be a bit high for(not the best quality) Chinese food. Rarely do we waste food, but even my family didn’t want to take any leftover food home.

Based on good Unilocal review, I stopped at the place and had lunch by myself. The staff is not friendly at all. I was standing at the entrance, waiting to be seated. The waiter looked at me in a weird way and stand in front of a booth and pointed to me to sit with any greeting. There has three other tables at the time, every table ordered from dinner menu i guess, because I saw portion of food is kinda large. After a while, a waitress came to my booth to take order. I ordered two items from lunch menu, i notice she shows dissatisfaction from her facial expression as if I have no money to purchase from dinner menu! I waited about 20 mins. for my food. They are wayyyy too salty… I asked the waitress if the lunch include soup since I didn’t pay attention read what’s include from lunch menu), the lady didn’t even want to reply, she just shook her head and left my table. What kind of service is this!!! I don’t know how this place got 5 stars, but I will not come back and will tell every friend how horrible this place is! Overall, service horrible, food taste horrible!

My prayers have come trun, they are back! Food is great as before and staff is friendly. If you want authentic Shanghainese food, this is the place!

Great food and prices. Double check the spicy-ness level cause you will be hot if you don’t!

I was here about a month ago for lunch and it was so bad that I had forgotten to write a review, I literally didn’t finish the food and waited for my mom to pack the dishes so she can take them home, as she said she will fix it at home instead of tossing them it’d be wasting food. I came across the review on this restaurant today and saw all the 5 stars and I began to wonder if all these reviews from Unilocalers with 0 reviews other then this one are really convincing . There was no other customers the time we went, and we ordered from the lunch menu which was not exciting, the lunch menu had very regular dishes that you could get from any Chinese restaurant or fast food chain, and was not specialties of Shanghai nor Sezchuan cuisine(as the restaurant is advertised to be). I could not remember exactly what we ordered, but the dishes were so disappointingly awful, flavors we lacking, and the portion was small(it was good in this case since it was so bad we don’t want to waste food) We were all wondering how long this restaurant would last. Again I am very curious as how they have gotten only a handful of reviews and they are all 5 stars?

I love Szechuan food. Their menu has so many choices. I went there the first time and was just captivated by everything I saw on the menu. Lamb with cumin sauce was what I wanted to order the most, but a person in our group did not like lamb so I had to wait for another visit to order it. The place is also clean and reasonably spacious. The only complaint I have is that the portions are small even though prices are not cheap. But will soon revisit the place.

This place is soooooooo delicious!!! Who would’ve thought this place even existed in Rowland Heights? For Shanghai food I always had to go to San Gabriel but this place is legit. Way better than Shanghai Palace on Azusa and Colima. We came here on a Monday and it was empty. When we walked in we were kind of regretful since we were the only people. The lady was SUPER nice and we felt much better. We ordered so much food(please see the pictures) and everything was soooooooo good. We got the pork shank which is a specialty and it was tender and moist and the sauce was very good. The fish was really good too. The favors were not too salty and not overly sweet.

This place is the REALDEAL. I’ve grown up in this area eating at all the Chinese restaurants and nothing has ever come close. I’m literally weeping inside because of how delicious the food is. It’s a hidden gem for now so hurry and come before the secret’s out. Get the fried crunchy fish with seaweed, cumin lamb, and the braised pork hock with rock candy sauce. I’d write more but I need to go ask the waitress if I could live here just so I can eat more of this ridonkulously delicious food.

The fried rice and the bamboo shoots stirred with shredded pork are the best we have ever had any where! The dumplings are good too. The kids really have good appetite when they eat here. They also have special dishes authentic to Shanghai region of China.

Amazing. This is a true diamond in the ruff. Every dish we ordered was on point. Yummy!!! Definitely order the braised pork hock, fish filet with chili sauce, and fried crunchy fish filet with seaweed. You will not be disappointed. Portion sizes were great! Prices very reasonable! The owner was super nice and all the servers were very attentive. I can’t believe there wasn’t a line out the door! I’ll be back real soon ;)

We went back to J Z Restaurant again today. We tried some of our favorites from last visit and ordered several new dishes. They are as good as we expected, no disappointment! Shao Long Bao steamed dumpling: really juicy, everyone’s favorite Lamb with cumin sauce: very tasty, Ben’s favorite Fish fillet with chili sauce: my favorite Beef tendon with Szechwan hot sauce: Lester’s favorite In addition to great food, the restaurant’s table arrangement and seating are also very comfortable and clean. And the service continues to be impressively good. We will come back most definitely!
