I was up in Roswell the other day and had some time to kill and found myself browsing the Fostering Hope thrift shop. They had some really great stuff — and I walked out with four books for $ 4 — including one I had almost paid full price for at a retailer a few months ago. The selection of books was great and the pricing simple — $ 1 for paperbacks and $ 2 for hard cover. I also found a great sport coat, although it was a little small so I didn’t get it. But it was clean, in great condition, and $ 8. They had a lot of great furniture and other odds and ends as well. Next time I’m in the area I will definitely stop back in to see what I can find. And the best part is it is all to support a great cause.

LOVEIT! You have to stop in frequently because the best items sell SUPER quickly, but this store always offers some amazing finds. I almost hate to share my favorite place to treasure hunt, but since it supports a fantastic cause, I’ll let you in on the secret. You can even search«Fostering Hope» on Craigslist to see a few of the new pieces as they come into the store. I have seen everything from a Pottery Barn Kids play table and chair set to a gorgeous pair of Tory Burch pumps. I also came across an Ethan Allen armoire, Lazy Boy sofas, antique rockers, Coach purses, designer flower girl dresses, girls’ ballet and tap shoes, a Madeline doll house, antique mirrors, silver-plated candlesticks, depression glass, a John Deere wagon, nursery décor, and several glass cases full of collectible dolls. There’s also the usual selection of thrift store clothing in adult and children’s sizes, and, if you hunt for it, you can walk out with some great designer items. I bought my husband a classic Jos. A. Bank tie for $ 2. Along one wall, the store has a huge selection of designer children’s labels — Biscotti, Us Angels, Luli & Me, etc. Most of the outfits are BRANDNEW with tags! The shop also offers a large selection of formal wear, bridesmaid’s dresses, mother-of-the-bride apparel, and wedding gowns that were reportedly donated by a local wedding boutique. The selection of paperback and hardcover books is good, as well. Like any bargain shop, you just never know what you will find. If you are eligible for senior discounts, shop on Wednesday for a 20% discount. Lastly, and best of all, 100% of the proceeds from the shop go to support foster children here in Georgia.
