***Cash Only*** I sometimes stop by the Wapo Taco when I am passing through Roslindale Village and I am looking for a quick snack. The Tex-Mex served here is average & inexpensive and the staff is friendly & prompt. Wapo Taco does not try to be something it is not; the patrons who tend to dislike the Wapo Taco are the one’s who are looking for something other than what the Wapo Taco actually is.

A small cash-only joint in Roslindale. First the food… Not. Impressed. For the Unilocal rating it had, I was displeased. I had a chicken taco and a couple beef tacos; my wife upgraded one of hers to include tomatoes and sour cream. The chicken was reformed patties(the kind with the fake grill marks). Both tacos as a whole were bland. The hot taco didn’t even register on my scale of hot. It was not an expensive meal, however, so at least you aren’t getting price-gouged. The service… Fast, efficient, and polite. Not a lot to say about it, but the lady behind the counter was very nice and the food was fast. I cannot justify these tacos. I actually made tacos the next day to satisfy my craving. Not 100% sure where the other reviewers are coming from.

Have been going to WP on and off for about 4 years… never disappointed. What is nice is their hot sauce has been steadily getting hotter!!! It is one of my Roslindale food rotations… along with the Triple Eatery and Sophia’s Grotto :-)

Great vegetarian options and they know what that is. The beans are vegetarian & they have a faux vegetarian filling options that is tasty. Two kinds of vegetarian beans: refried & black beans and also vege meat.

I’ve been coming to Wapo Taco just about since they opened. They are not really a Mexican restaurant but an American taco joint. Such as they are, they are my favorite. Yeah, I like the crispy shelled tacos because that’s what I grew up with in Albany, NY. These are delicious. I have the beef ones with the super hot habanero sauce. I confess to being addicted. Two before dinner, two after lunch, two any time. Five if I have a little more time. Truly, the best snack on the planet. And I love the owners who also work the counter and cook the food. They are friendly, relaxed, attentive, and competent. If they ever closed I might have to kill myself. Nah, just kidding. But I sure would miss their food.

Decent TexMex, only a few tables so mostly a take out spot. Fresh, authentic stuff and reasonable. Could use some décor other than 1985 Greek Pizza house though.

Very good lunch option in Roslindale square. Burritos are fresh and very good value for the dollar. Way better then subway when it comes to value.

if I had a choice between eating here and making my own taco… i’d make my own taco at home. the tacos are small and they hardly put anything in it. I ordered a hardshell taco, ‘wapo’ sized which is 10 inches. umm. when i got home to eat it. it was a regular size and even on the bag it was labelled wapo. what happened hereThe guacamole and chips were good, but you cant really go too wrong with that. wont be back and the staff just isnt enthusiastic, she didnt smile once and we walked in with a bunch of cute little kids. it’s not like we even stayed in there to eat, which would have resulted in a big mess.

Well, we were broke, and I was craving tacos. My friend graciously picked up din-din, from this place– gesture much appreciated. It was CHEAP! Did I mention the prices? Cheap! We like cheap on broke days. CASHONLYESTABLISHMENT, here, folks! I had a couple of soft tacos, nachos, and some beans & rice. All good, except the tacos tasted weird. Couldn’t quite put my finger on what the problem was, but I didn’t finish them all– actually, they get a «no», as when I reheated them the next day, it was«ehhhhhh». Beans, rice, and nachos were yummy. My friend seemed to like her quesadilla. Umm. Yeah. I won’t be back, but hey, nice try! «A» for effort! Others may truly ENJOY you, as you DO beat out some more«commercialized» places.

Yeah, this place holds up! Still 4-stars! It’s still cheap as shit. But man I had an awesome wapo burrito last week there. The ingredients are fresh as fuck for sure! And they heat the tortillas on the stove so they have a slight burn which is boss! And I heart the tortillas on the stove so they have a slight burn which is boss! Also, ask for the hot sauce. It really is hot, but it’s really good. WAPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I was surprised and disappointed by my experience at Wapo Taco. My friends and I tried a chicken burrito, a steak burritto and a veg taco. The chicken was good but the cheese was not even melted. The salsa tasted like marinara sauce! The people were nice and I want(ed) to love it but it was just not good:(.

Fast and friendly service coupled with tasty food at good prices result in a staple. The steak tacos, burritos, and wraps are consisantly good. The food is very fresh and the salsas are full of flavor. The hot can be hot and they can accommodate special needs or mixes. Not fancy or gourmet but real everyday food that makes us glad we went there and keeps us coming back. Cash only and they now are Coke only.

I am once again surprised by so many good reviews for a restaurant that I really disliked. First off I should say that I live and work in Roslindale so I’ve basically tried every place there is. I love food and good Mexican is one of my favorites. However this is definitely not Mexican food. When I first moved here 8 years ago I tried the place and was not impressed but recently I decided to give them another try. After all I regularly see people in there eating so certainly they deserve another try. Well I agree with everyone that the prices are low but in this case I think you really get what you pay for. I had a chicken taco and a beef taco. They came with lettuce, tomato, cheese and sour cream. The burritos seemed to be exactly the same thing but larger and includes refried beans. My take is that everything was incredibly bland which is not what I expect for tacos. The ground beef was seasoned but it seemed to be seasoned with the same powdered mix that comes with old El Paso tacos from when I was a kid. I would liken this food to what you might get in a school cafeteria. Bland and made with cheap ingredients. The funny thing is right across the street is Romano’s Pizzeria which is run by Mexicans and they serve tacos that are actually quite good. Slow cooked meats along with fresh cilantro and limes. One positive note about Wapo Taco is I did notice that they fry their own crispy taco shells so they are fresh. I did not try one because I don’t like the way crispy tacos fall apart when you eat them but I bet theirs are much better than the pre-made ones.

It’s not gourmet, or authentic Mexican, but it is inexpensive, quick, vegetarian friendly, and pretty damn tasty. For less than $ 15, you can stuff yourself(and your partner) silly. I often find myself with inexplicably intense carvings for Wapo; even though their food is nothing extra special, there is something about it that keeps me coming back on a regular basis. The staff consists of two people, and they are probably two of the warmest, most sincere people you’ll ever meet. Whenever I go in, we always talk and joke around for a while, which makes Wapo feel like a small town joint rather than a little Tex-Mex hole in the wall in Roslindale. They even know my order by heart, but always double-check that I haven’t changed my mind before getting started. I pretty much love the owners, and wish they could come to my house for Thanksgiving and the like. I’m not even kidding. The vegetarian wraps(about $ 4.50), served with black or re-fried beans or veggie meat, are my favorite. They’re a simple, tasty lunch, consisting of one of the above fillings, rice, tomato, iceberg lettuce, and Wapo’s homemade salsa. The hot is truly where it’s at, but they also offer mild and medium for those who don’t like to breathe fire for the rest of the day. Their chips are awesome too, and for a buck, you can add a side of guacamole or salsa. For the low prices, you can’t go wrong here. Wapo also sells Italian Ices, which I don’t think are available at nearly enough places in Boston. They only stock a handful of flavors, but if you’re ever in Rozzie and in need of a cold, refreshing treat for a dollar and change, this is your place. Closed Sundays and Mondays.

Super cheap and their basic beef tacos are solid and a good bargain at 6 for $ 5. Damn, that’s cheap. Go for the hot sauce — it’s still not hot enough. Every time I go in, though, I always feel bad for the owners. They are super sweet but I just get this feeling they’re always on the brink of going out of business. There’s a strange energy in the place with a one pager on their son who died and the sign that says, «Do not bring in food from other restaurants. Other patrons might think we sell things that we don’t», and the sign that says, «No Pizza! No Subs!» Honestly, the place just depresses me. One bite of the tacos, though and I’m OK again!

THe only problem with this restaurant is that I don’t get here more often. The food is good fresh and cheap. The owners and the people that work there are the nicest people working in Roslindale Square. Great Gucamole !

Wapo Taco is a great local resturant to me. The tacos are really yummy and not processed junk like taco bell. I love the Taco salad! MMMMMM!!! They are closed on Mondays and I think they dont actually open until 12 noon but it is worth it! The people that work there are really nice too!
