Good breakfast place. But its a diner — big menu — lots of options with decent prices. A big menu can mean more orders done wrong — which happen to us. Bacon and eggs is easy, but they were challenged by a special diet needs. Service was OK — they have their regulars and spend a fair amount of time with them. So its not a big chain restaurant. Food is fresh. Lots of options. But stick to breakfast or simple sandwiches.

This place gets four stars mostly for the cabbage soup! One of the best cabbage soups I’ve ever tasted. Breakfast was diner style breakfast — but that’s not a bad thing! Yes I had soup and breakfast for dinner… Only reason they lost a star was because they seemed to be out of a lot of things when I went. A bunch of soup choices were crossed off and a few menu items were unavailable. I will definitely return. Perfect comfort food stop.

Love this place. Great-food and service. I was bummed out they do not serve grits but they do not lose any stars for that. Maybe one day the owners would put them on the menu.

There is nothing to eat here if you’re vegan. It was really tricky to even attempt to order and when I custom ordered, I got a bit of attitude. Sorry, but a lot of people that aren’t vegan by choice have dairy or egg allergies regardless so there should be at least a few options. This used to be a great place for healthy options but not so much anymore. Sigh. Hopefully they catch up with the times!

Went to pickup a carry out… The lady in front of me was complaining about her breakfast and complementing about her past experiences. As I’m waiting for breakfast I pay and tip the server. Breakfast was delivered promptly. I get home and part of the order was missing. So I asked the wife to complain about it over the phone. The manager offered for us to go and pick it up and the wife asked him to recook all the breakfast and we would return the old so we could have hot breakfast. He said no of course and offered no solutions to the issue. My wife then told him that we would never be back. He said sorry you fill this way. Needless to say the food was ok nothing to write home about but then again it might have made the difference if I received everything I ordered.

Food was really good. Chicken noodle soup, hot onion rings, monster burger. Cooked perfectly. Nice staff, quaint little place. First time here.

Huge menu, reasonable prices, fair portions. I want to think it’s the kind of place that probably has a few really solid items tucked away, you just have to find them. We didn’t. I suspect part of trick here is that it looks like some of the items were fresh and made from scratch, and others looked like they were the Gordon/Sysco variety. Dad had the pot roast, which he liked, but said his vegetables were cold. Speaking of that, EVERYTHING else that came out– the soup, burgers, apps, etc– was at an extremely hot temperature. I know, it sound silly complaining about the food being too hot, but you had to wait 5 minutes to eat everything that was place in front of you. My brother and I had burgers that seemed like they should have been good when they were placed in front of us– they just didn’t taste that spectacular. Our waitress was pretty good. Never had to ask for refills, cleared the table often, and was attentive. It was a pretty bland experience on the whole, nothing really great, but nothing bad either. If I lived closer I might like to try the breakfast food, but after one visit and seeing 4 different entrees, I will admit to be a little skeptical about some of the raving reviews giving this place 5 stars.

Apple Annie’s is overrated. I’ve eaten there about 5 times for business lunch or as a group and each time I was less than impressed. Don’t go on a Sunday, with the church next door you have to wait in line for a table. Went once for a weekday lunch and the tables are so close together that a man that sat at the next table smelled so bad I lost my appetite. The waitress was so lame she didn’t take our hints that we’d like to change tables and by the time she got the hint, everyone in the restaurant was staring. It doesn’t matter if they have 20 soups if they all taste the same. I won’t go back here if given the choice.

Best pancakes I’ve ever had. Wonderful breakfast food and friendly service. I go there quite often with my mom for breakfast or lunch and I have not had a bad experience. Banana strawberry waffle is one of my favorites. I once ordered Mexican food and that was not so good so stick to home style cooking/breakfast.

I’m giving five stars to Apple Annie’s restaurant. I had a whiskey chicken salad it was the best salad I had ever eaten!!! They also have extremely juicy hamburgers so many different kinds it’s really worth checking it out. I think there’s a new one opening on Garfield the one that used to be Friartuck’s is now going to be Apple Annie’s. Congratulations on a great food and excellent service !!!

Apple Annie’s is a very good place for breakfast. My girlfriend and I stopped there for a late breakfast and the service was prompt and the waitress tended in a timely fashion. We ordered the cinnamon French toast, eggs, and hash browns with sausage. The portions were huge, and the food arrived hot, and flavorful. The sausage and hash browns tasted fresh. The options for baked goods was overwhelming, but not problematic. They offer various options for bread choices and side choices. Although the seating is slightly cramped, and the food can easily add up to be slightly pricy, it is well worth the drive and the wait for a super fresh meal.

One thing ive learned from eating at a restaurant is if there is alot of older people odds are the food isn’t great. There soup was ok they have 10 soups a day witch is neat if they where good. I also i got a chicken wrap witch was cold. I kept hearing a microwave going off so they nuke there food. The fries where cold. The pros about this place would be the waiters and the price but you have to have halfway decent food to get a good review in my book. I dont except much from gratiot but i would stay clear from this place if you have taste buds.

My first visit to Apple Annie’s was a spectacular event! I went on the bus with 12 lovely ladies from American House. Always fun conversation & laughter. We were seated all together & service was quick & very efficient. The menu is very extensive & the staff(Bubbly, sweet Michele) was very helpful in guiding me to a healthy choice. I ordered from the low fat Healthy menu. I explained our Dr. Joel Fuhrman Dietary régime & Michelle suggested the grilled chicken with grilled broccoli, artichoke, mushrooms, tomatoes on a grilled Pita with house made low fat ranch drsg on the side. OMG ., it was perfect al dente veggies and it was so big, I brought ½ home for my hubby. :) I also got a very fresh salad with 5 – 6 items on it. Yummy. I tasted my friends cole slaw & loved the sweet drsg & the surpriseing addition of pineapple! I also tested the French toast… It was superb… With cinnamon & whipped butter. Michelle even suggested the kids menu version of Spaghetti & meatballs. All of the ladies that ordered perfect breakfasts, got FREE coffee. Nice. Half of the ladies got desserts… Hot fudge cream puff, pie, cannolis, cookies, cheese cake, carrot cake, …I was super tempted– but stayed strong! Lol Whole apple pies were only $ 3.99! The wait staff didn’t seem to mind giving us all separate checks. Thank you for a wonderful lunch outing ! Everything was super !

Good place, stopped here for dinner. I had a «James Dean» burger which was good. Always super busy but not choas. This place makes there own cup cakes and soups. Very robust menu. A little overwhelming for my liking but still a great stop for some good food. Parking is in the back and the staff was super friendly.

Apple Annie’s is definitely a staple in our house. The reason being that I am a particularly picky eater, and I have trouble deciding what I want to eat. The reason Apple Annie’s helps with this is because the menu has a little bit of everything, like most family-style restaurants. They have pasta, great breakfast food, good sandwiches, about 10 different soups every single day, and more! If I say that I cannot decide where I want to go for lunch, chances are we will end up here because there are so many foods to choose from. The best food they have is their breakfast food, in my opinion. If you get their cinnamon french toast with their homemade thick-sliced bread, your day will get better. That’s all I’m saying. I will say, Apple Annie’s is usually filled with elderly people, so don’t be surprised, because they do have senior specials. But the service is quick, the food is good and it is conveniently located. I recommend going here!

There was a time that I would give this place 4.5 stars. It used to be great. Somehow, it no longer is. Our last disappointed even my noticed the overall difference from previous visits and she normally doesn’t care. I’m a soup man and at one time, the soups were all homemade. Like grandma used to make. They might all be made on site but clearly someone in the back is taking short cuts with the product. On an up note, all the soups are usually so hot you have to wait a few minutes. You can get AYCE soup. You can’t go wrong with their breakfasts. Served all day. Dinner portions are still large and the place packs them in on Polish and Italian nights. This was one of my favs when I lived on the east side. It isn’t any more and no one is more disappointed than me.

I am not a fan of this location to be honest and I am a little scared that the Friars in Clinton Township who recently adopted the«Apple Annies» name is going to end up down the crapper now too. Don’t let looks deceive you. One might think the place must be really good based on the sheer volume of customers that are packed in there, but 70% of the people there are also 70 years or older. Not to knock old people in any way shape or form, but their taste buds aren’t always the sharpest and they like to settle for bland food. While Apple Annies shared some of the same menu items as Friars and both are owned by the same family, they were nowhere near the same. With that being said, the only thing Apple Annies is consistent at is being inconsistent. For example if you are a fan of Lemon Rice soup, let’s hope the cook for that day is the one who actually puts lemon in it. Only once has it even been good and tasted like it should. Every other time I have been there and order this soup it came out tasting like butter, rice and chicken with no lemon whatsoever. When I tell the waitstaff and ask for something else they always chime in with the same response, that it just all depends on who made it that day. One of them was so overly honest that she said that one of the chefs just doesn’t like lemons so he refuses to put it in the soup. Fine, if that is the case then drop the word«lemon» from the name that night! Their lo-cal pizza option also is far from lo-cal. The mushrooms and onions that they put on it are heavily saturated in butter and oil which will easily double or triple the amount of calories actually in that dish. Be leary of this if you are going there hoping to get something off their«Health Club» menu.
