Sun Tavern has consistent, good-quality food and service. PIZZA: Superb. Thin crust, not a ton of cheese or grease. But a balanced taste and good sauce. Sausage pizza is excellent, as is the Old World pizza. I recently had their philly cheese-steak sandwich and it was excellent. Two actual pieces of steak, but cut thin so I wasn’t biting into 2 inches of tough meat. Hot, tasty onions and peppers with just a tiny bit of oil and juice to make the whole thing moist. Excellent bread, also. With sandwiches, the ratio of bread to meat to toppings is critical, and Sun Tavern gets it right. Casual service, but always friendly and attentive. A consistent quality experience every time.

This place is completely overrated. Idk why i even go to this place anymore. I guess because some of my degenerate friends till hang their and Im hoping for them to return to their glory days of good food. The pizza is still pretty decent I must say but everything I ever order from here is just super mediocre and a disappoint. I ordered a chicken parm sandwhich from here once and that was supposed to be a fan favorite. When i got it, it was completely raw on the inside. When i sent it back they sent me back one that was completely burnt and with horrible presentation.

Nice place to eat at with friends. Pizza is what you should definately order as they are one of their specialties. Buffalo wings are so so but they their draft beer is always cold. Pretty busy on Thursday and Fridays after work crowd.

This place«back in the day»(15 years ago) was the spot for boys to meet girls but it was always a «Union county» place… now it is a bit worn down but the Pizza is still very good and I try and have lunch here once a week on «cheat day». Fridays the lot looks full and the outdoor area is a nice touch and it is far and away better then that Frenchys joint across the street…(talk about a dirt bar) Plenty of TV’s and good food lots of beer on tap. If I were the owner I would have bands on weekends, but I like live music.

I’ve been a Sun Tavern fan for almost two decades. Never had a bad meal in all that time. If you’re looking for a good meal, be it hearty or light, a good selection of beer, locally and for a reasonable price… This is it! My favorites are their wings, nachos, burgers but, the specials keep things fresh, no pun intended. The thin crust pizzas are a staple. The only thing that keeps me from giving 5 stars is the décor, while rustic, is a bit dated. Al B.

Sun tavern is cute and homey. It’s definitely worth coming here for a bite if you’re in the Roselle/Linden area. They serve food until 2 am which is a plus! Calamari is awesome(recommend the sweet marinara instead of the hot, but they’ll bring out both if you ask. Chicken tenders are crispy. Burger was good, not great, but definitely good(and it came with super curly curly-fries). Philly cheese steak is awesome!

I’ve been coming to the Sun on & off since this place opened and I try to like it but I have to say it’s gone way down hill over the years. Dmcculloch5150 may sound like he has an axe to grind to some, but he is correct. Easily the worst place in RP. The only thing worth eating here is the prime rib on Fridays or Saturdays. You want a burger, go to Dowling’s. Pizza? Go to Frenchy’s. You want pasta, go to Vintage. I stopped in yesterday and order a half a rack of ribs and while they were tender, they looked boiled. No color on them & the sauce was poured on as an afterthought and the ribs weren’t even put on any fire to get some char. Every time I come here I leave disappointed. The Sun is an inexpensive night out but there’s a reason. It’s terrible.

I have to say I was a little skeptical going here because of its 3 star rating, but it was to meet up friends after work so I figured I’d give it a shot. The outside is very inviting despite its location on a somewhat unattractive part of Westfield avenue. We hung out at the bar area and got a couple drinks. We had to signal the bartender to give us menus which I wouldn’t complain about except for the fact that everyone else sitting next to us was having food and also given menus. I ended up ordering the Gorgonzola burger and added bacon. ITWASDELICIOUS! I specifically requested no tomato and they actually listened, which doesn’t seem like a lot but you’d be surprised how often that simple detail gets ignored. My friends had the buffalo wrap which they said was good and a pizza with hot cherry peppers and jalepenos and it was a very nice size for the price. If I had to guess where the negativity of this restaurant comes from it has to be the SERVICE I saw people running around despite the fact that it wasn’t crowded and it was a hassle every time we had to get a drink from the bartender. It wasn’t crowded, why weren’t you checking on us? Why didn’t you see my fried s multiple hand waves? I have to say we got the check and I was surprised the check was so low considering how many beers I bought which was a big plus considering the food was good but unfortunately the service was CRAP, I don’t think j would want to be there when there’s a crowd, I hate waiting for service

I really like this place. I’ve come here for lunch a few times, so today I tried dinner with the wife and kid. They have high hairs, the place is so big that everyone is seated a decent distance from each other. Nice and quiet. There’s always space at the bar. The bar is really long and fully stocked, they have a nice music machine. The waitress was quick, stopped by just the right amount of times. The daily specials are freshly made. The meatloaf is fresh and delicious. Te mashed potatoes were obviously fresh. Gravy tasted good. This is a place where you have food left over. But that’s a good thing. Take it home. You’ll want to. We noticed the floors were really clean, lots of parking. Kid friendly. Spaghetti was cooked perfectly, the meatballs tasted good and were nice and soft. The cheesecake was good, nice vanilla iced cream. No complaints here.

I’ve been going to this place for close to two years and while I can’t speak for what it was, I can say it is great. You can’t beat the drink prices. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. The food, while it is bar food, is great. I have had a large number of their pizzas, nachos, jalapeño poppers, chicken fingers, salads, and sandwiches. My favorite pizza is the clam pizza!!! It has the old world base with clams on the top. It was extremely flavorful. They also don’t advertise quesadillas on the menu unless it’s in appetizer platter, which I found odd, but they made me an order a few weeks ago and it was delicious. The outside seating area is nice and they have the bar outside which I find great for happy hour.

I was a frequent customer… me and my wife .not anymore the service was okay she was overworked. not her fault that’s poor mgt. But the food has gone down the toilet and the decline is noticeable. the pizza taste like the dough is prebaked and when served it’s burnt. I had the ribs and they tasted like they had been cooked a month ago. it’s been on a decline and I would say one more chance well no more. never again will they get my hard earned money. they will be closed soon.

Great service, good food and a friendly atmosphere! I forgot to mention that I ordered the Cajun calamari which had awesome flavor but it wasn’t breaded crispy. Try Pat’s special at the bar, excellent!

Yet another stumbling distance bar/restaurant for me to add to the list. Sun Tavern is a place I like to go in the summer, because their deck seating is marvelous. I always feel a little confused when I walk in to Sun Tavern, because they never seem to have a hostess on the ready, but it could also be because I like to go out to eat during ‘non-normal’ hours. I’m an early bird special kind of girl, hit it and quit it before the dinner rush arrives. There’s nothing truly special about Sun Tavern. I hear their prime rib is good, but other than that, it’s your standard bar food upscaled to restaurant quality. People seem to like their pizzas, they’re thin crust and pretty good. If this place wasn’t walking distance, I’m not sure how often I’d come here.

I have been to Sun Tavern a handful of times. The food is good but I usually order the same thing because it’s the only place in the area that has them — Loaded Nachos. I like going to Sun Tavern in the warmer weather to sit outside. Service is OK but can be slow if it’s really busy(weekend).

This is another one of those places that, according to many, was so much better long ago. But, I wasn’t there long ago. I can just comment about today. And today was mighty tasty. We were the first ones in the door for lunch. We split a large pie, half sausage, half plain. Delicious. Thin crust done quite well. Do I wish the pie was larger, the sausage in chunks rather than crumbled and the red pepper flakes very spicy rather than flat? I do. But this was a damn good pizza at a reasonable price, served quickly with a smile. I’ll definitely be back.

Old. World. Pizza. You’ve never put anything that glorious in your mouth hole. If you love yourself add vodka sauce. Such garlicy cheesy goodness in each thin slice. Guilt no longer exists. I’ve only had their apps which are extremely average pub fare and their beers which they do rotate a few seasonal brews. Always cold beers on tap so I cant complain. I come here soley for their pizza cuz its just that awesome. Light, yet filling and reasonably priced. I used to live by here and frequented as there weren’t many pubs up Westfield Ave coming from Elizabeth. Outside is where its at. Gorgeous brick patio. New iron patio furniture is much more comfortable than the old plastic lawn chairs/tables they once had. Every so often the train passes and it just adds to the outdoor feel. Otherwise the inside is your standard bar with separate dining area and plethora of sports on the tvs surrounding the bar. No roudy patrons. Decent service. However there is never really a hostess? Regardless, directly off the parkway makes it a easy drive. Thank goodness for said pizza and patio making it otherwise this place would be your average joint.
