We have been going to this restaurant for decades. It is a great place to go for their luncheon specials and dinner before the theatre or a movie. It is a good value and the food is very good. You will not leave hungry. Service is good. Décor is old style but it kinda fits the place.

Excellent food, great service, and a comfortable atmosphere. Also it is a great place to eat with your family. We had sweet and sour chicken, wonton soup, and the Kung pao chicken. It as all very flavorful and delicious. Their tea and hot and sour soup is great also. This is all you need to have a five star restaurant that has been around for more than 30 years.

I’ve read complaints about the«outdated» décor of this restaurant, but I kind of like the looks of an old-time Chinese place. The lunch specials are a great value. I’ve had lunch there 3 times now, and will return. Customer service might not be their strong suit, but I have no complaints and still give them 5 stars.

I don’t know how this place got any good reviews. Worst Chinese food I’ve ever had! Too bad, we need a good chinese restaurant on the hill :(

My family and I have been going to this restaurant for years now and always leave stuffed and happy. The only reason I gave this four stars was because the décor is very outdated. This shouldn’t have a huge impact on the meal but to a certain person I can understand why they would be so frustrated

This place is our go-to Chinese delivery restaurant! When we are too lazy to drive anywhere, too lazy to go get groceries, too lazy to cook, or just too lazy in general, we order delivery from this amazing place. Shrimp in lobster sauce, chicken and broccoli, beef with oyster sauce, and even their brown rice are successes! SO tasty and SO generous with their portions, and the best part is the cheery, super polite delivery guy who is in the BEST mood and bows and thanks us for our business. He even gave us a humungous carton of hot and sour soup for FREE last night!!! Nothing is overly salty or oily. Everything we’ve ever ordered has been very fresh, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. There is literally nothing better than getting some of this delivered and eating it in bed with a mug of beer.

I took my family here after my wife recommend this place. She’s lived in the area all her life and this is one of the few Chinese restaurants on the hill. It was awful! The place is a stereotypical upscale Chinese place with terrible food and highly overpriced entrees. The food is bland with no special twist to it and it makes all hole in the wall dollar Chinese establishments look like 5 star cuisines. The food was so flavorless that it couldn’t even fool the pallet of my 7yr old. She normally loves orange chicken but without me even saying a word she said that the chicken tasted«weird» in a non-flattering way! As soon as I took a bite I agreed. We ordered the orange chicken, kung pow chicken and the vegetable noodles. The Orange dish was the worst one! The texture and flavor were all wrong! The chicken was not crispy but rather burnt with a sauce that hardly had any flavor. It tasted more like overcooked Teriyaki chicken. The noodles were a greasy mess with the flavor of spaghetti in very light soy sauce. You would think that for the price you were paying they would at least throw in the rice noodles. The Kung Pow was descent but was missing the Pow in it! Their was no kick in the chicken to even classify it as mild spicy level. Needless to say, the food was bland and short of mediocre! I think I was expecting superior Chinese food from this place after all the awesome reviews I read on Unilocal and all the great things my wife had to say about the place but Boy… was I disappointed. I even had my wife commenting at the end of our dining experience how it was not what she remembered and how she noticed that maybe the quality could be declining. We won’t be back obviously and you would be cautioned to pass on this place too and just drive down the hill and get any other Chinese food place on PCH. You can’t miss and You will save tons of money and avoid flavorless mandarin cuisine.

As others mentioned place needs a refresh. The food is sub-par average Chinese food. Had he orange chicken, but it was mostly batter with little to no chicken. We won’t be back and live quite close to this place. The service was good.

Very difficult to rate. As we want to keep a good Chinese restaurant in this area, however… the recent food quality and prices are hard to swallow. Literally. Obvious cutbacks in quality and quantity with obvious rise in already inflated prices for chinese food at Panda Express quality. Will be sad to see when they end up shut down due to the above since we have had such good memories going to this place for the last ten plus years.

There are so few places on the hill to dine out at. This one is ok, nothing great but certainly nothing bad either. The lady at the front desk is super friendly and it’s a good option to stop and pick up food to go on your way home.

When we discovered this restaurant about 5 years ago we were amazed to learn it has been around for some 25 years! This is by far the best Chinese food you will find in the South Bay area. The owner always makes a point to say hello and the wait staff is wonderful. I’m guessing they’ve worked there for a long time as I haven’t seen anyone new in the five years. If you’re not sure what to order, get the sizzling fish. It’s incredible!

American style Chinese restaurant that I have driven by for many years but never been interested enough to try until today when a family member member dragged me here. I am happy to report that it wasn’t as horrible as I expected. Interior is surprisingly spacious and bright while the service is quick. Lunch specials(around $ 10) are available for weekends and includes soup/salad. We opted for a mix of entrees my favorite being the salt and pepper shrimp which had a crispy batter over the juicy shrimp. I didn’t care for the greasy noodle dish with the dry, tasteless barbecued pork. Not much variety on the menu but it didn’t seem to matter to the regulars who seemed to be quite happy with the food.

Fu Yuan Low is a Palos Verdes institution. It has been here for my entire life — do you remember Peacock Alley? I think that they last decorated the restaurant in the late 1980s — mauve banquettes and cheesy Asian art decorate the vast interior. The restaurant is really large and is generally empty — a few tables at lunch and at dinner. I am not sure how they stay open. The food is average Chinese food with an American flair. It is expensive, but you are paying for convenience if you are a Palos Verdes resident and don’t want to go to Panda Express which is nasty. I.e., if you want Chinese and don’t want to drive off the hill, this is pretty much were you go. We ordered the Mu Shu Vegetables($ 11.45). It is a pretty small serving for the price — like 2 cups with 4 pancakes — but it is tasty. Heavy on the cabbage with some mushrooms and a few carrots and sprouts are sautéed in the traditional mu shu sauce and served with the pancakes and the hoisin sauce. We also had the dry braised string bean($ 9.95) which is a standard to-go container with green beans that are sautéed with their version of XO sauce. It is not spicy but it is tasty, albeit a bit overcooked. I prefer to-go. If I have the time to sit down, I am going to one of my favorites off the hill with better food. But, the staff here is friendly enough for that purpose. It’s okay! It’s local!

I’ve been coming to this restaurant since I was a toddler with my family, 20 years later and I still find myself coming here! Their food and portions had always been great, and most of the staff has always been very kind. I may have a bit of favoritism for this place since I have been coming here for so long, but in my opinion the best Chinese food in the area!

The place is Great. My daughter loves it. Even my chinese girl friend makes sure we are going to eat there. The place is clean, nicely decorated and with good ambiance. Its one of the only restaurants I really visit on the hill.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Rolling Hills Estates, California that many of the locals have been patronizing for years. My parents took my sister and I here when they first opened 30 years ago as part of the Peacock Alley upgrade to the Peninsula Center and they have been in the same location ever since. The interior is very clean although the open-beam ceiling and 50’s style bench seats take a little getting used to. The table attendants keep everything clean and are constantly ‘at the ready’ to take care of all your culinary needs. I came here for lunch with my mom and tried the shrimp and broccoli lunch special. After ordering, the wait time for my meal was very minimal and my plate was piled high with food. Fresh broccoli, shrimp that, to me anyways, is the best I’ve had at any chinese restaurant, a large scoop of fried rice, an egg roll with sweat and sour sauce and a bowl of egg flower soup completed my meal. Without asking, the attendants brought out ice water for us and asked me if I wanted a refill on my iced tea. We were will taken care of, almost to a fault. I could see the attendants waiting just around the corner for one of us to finish our plate and clear it or finish our drink for a refill. Seeing them«wait» for not only us but other patrons as well, made me a little uneasy but overall, the eating experience here was exceptional and I will continue to come here. Please note: I have also been here for large family events and they have plenty of seating for those too and the food, ordered in family-sized portions, is just as wonderful.

Dined here a couple weeks ago and the food was delicious and came out VERY fast. Ordered the Special«Aromatic Shrimp» and Moo Shu Chicken for dinner– and it was Delicious! The food came out within minutes and was hot and fresh! This is Palos Verdes Peninsula’s best kept secret(even though they have been around for 20+ years) Would recommend to anyone new to the area and/or visiting

I have been coming to this Chinese restaurant since it first opened around 1981 as part of the Peacock Alley renovation to Peninsula Center. I like their lunch special especially the Chinese chicken salad. Their menu has really not changed since ’81 and believe or not the chicken salad still tastes the same after three decades! Their food is pretty good, however it is Chinese food for Americans, which probably explains why there are hardly any Chinese customers in the restaurant. Nevertheless, it is still pretty good. Not much décor to look at, but the interior architecture is interesting with open ceilings and cozy booths. Service is pretty good, prices are a little on the steep side, but the 20% recession discount during the weeknights helps. We always got enough to eat with leftovers to bring home.

My brother recommended this place when we were in the neighborhood. We decided to eat Chinese food, and there aren’t that many choices in the Palos Verdes area(unfortunately). This place is huge, spacious, and plenty of booths or tables. It’s more«Americanized-Chinese» food, that’s for sure. Each lunch combo plate comes with rice, salad, and an egg roll. (1) Mongolian beef — I ordered this! it was pretty tasty, beef was tender, many green & white onions used. pretty large plate of food, 4 stars (2) Kung pao chicken — my brother ordered this, who doesn’t like kung pao chicken?!! (3) Sweet & sour pork — my mom ordered this, she couldn’t finish(large portion!) (4) Yu-Shong Chicken — my dad ordered this, he couldn’t even finish his plate either, wow — i’m telling you, this place has pretty large portion size for a lunch plate! (5) Shrimp in Yu-Shong Sauce — my husband ordered this and i think he’s the only one that finished his food! (6) Potstickers as appetizer — we all shared potstickers, yes! :) the sauce that came with, was pretty good. Overall, the service was decent, friendly, restrooms are clean, food was reasonable good, and we can see why this place is so busy for dinner. Glad to know there’s a Chinese restaurant in the area! :)
