Bride to be wasn’t happy with this hair studio
One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. I don’t know why this place come highly recommended. My experience started off nice but ended in me being hurt and leaving in tears. I came back to Zaquita for to fix what she had done to my hair the previous night. After seating done for about 30 mins being put down about how damaged my hair is and its all my fault I left. She doesn’t know how to do hair especially in the ethnic community. She was very unprofessional for hurting my feelings and raising her voice at me in the end.
I tell everyone who reads this please save your time and your money and keep looking. Laquita is one of the WORST hairstylist I’ve ever met.

Ziquita!!! Where had you been all my life?
After recovering from knee surgery and years of trying every process and chemical treatment available for Black/​mixed hair, my hair was brittle and in need of serious TLC. I googled «multi ethnic salons» and came across Essence Hair Studio. I called in and Ziquita answered the phone. She was so warm and welcoming, listening to my situation, prior treatments and hair ambitions. She asked all the right questions to learn about my hair texture as well as what I did and didnt like about my hair. I could tell that she «got» me and that my hair would be in good hands.
I now see Ziquita regularly for keratin treatments to give me the best of both worlds-​soft natural curls or sleek straight hair depending on the occassion and my mood. She also teaches me how to care for my hair with easy, low maintenance habits.
Ziquita could easily be the star of a high end salon, and is truly Rohnert Park’s best kept secret. We are truly blessed to have her!
Besides a great hair cut/​treatment/​style, a visit with Miss Ziquita just leaves your soul feeling good!

I have been getting my hair done there for many years but after my last experience the owner she did a really bad job she cup a big piece an covered it up with out telling me an on the back of my head it was like having a beginner do my hair. I noticed it after a week an a half later wen I was styling it. I talked to her an she said she was sorry an she was going to refund me $ 65 an it’s been more than a month an no refund.

So, I’m in love with this place. It’s the best hidden place in Sonoma county for ethic hair. I’ve been on the search for a reputable salon for a number of years and I will never go anywhere else. I worked with Zaquita, who did a cut and color for me. She was so fun and so sweet to me. I LOVE my color and she actually listened to desires and made suggestions for what she thought worked best. I’m a naturalista, and she was able to work with my transitional phase and give me exactly what I was looking for. Zaquita, girl, thank you!!!

The idea of getting my hair done is always so nerve-​wracking. What if it’s too short? What if it looks the same? What if I don’t like the cut? What if I don’t like the color? What if I don’t like the stylist? So many questions that pop through my head! Hey, hair is important, and I’d like to look good. Well, after not getting my hair done in what has felt like years, I finally decided to give Essence Salon a try. A couple friends of mine have gone to Ziquita Muldrew, so I thought, «Why not?» (in addition to all of those other thoughts that I’ve already stated).
I contacted Ziquita on a Wednesday, and she was able to see me that Friday. She was so professional, and quick with a reply. She asked me what I had in mind, and when I told her, she sounded so excited. That put me at ease. She was punctual, super friendly, and energetic. I got a great vibe from meeting her. I sat down in the chair, discussed more of what I wanted, and we proceeded. What I really liked about Ziquita, was her honesty. She told me exactly what she would and would not recommend for my hair type. It made me feel that she truly cared. The whole process was comfortable, and painless.
If you’re in need of a good hairstylist, give Ziquita a try! You will not be disappointed. I guarantee it.

I am updating my 2011 review with another 5 stars. I’ve been going to Essence for 5 years now. I would never go anywhere else! I have naturally thick, curly (multicultural) hair. Both Angela and Michelle (the owners) do my relaxer touch ups. They both do such great jobs and are so nice that I do not have a preference. Ever since I started going to Essence my hair has become so much healthier and my hair grows at least one inch with every relaxer. When I first met Angela I had her chop off all my damaged hair so that I could start over. She made the cutest layered cut, and I always received so many compliments! I’ve been growing my hair out ever since, (trims only), and for the first time in years, my hair is growing rather than breaking. Michelle has been doing most of my relaxers now and she also does an amazing job. Since 2009, I’ve never once had a bad or disappointing experience (I get touchups about every 8 weeks). I highly recommend both Angela and Michelle to anyone!

Michelle has been relaxing my hair for around 2 years now and I love it! I’m African American and find it hard to find someone who can actually do my hair but Michelle does it so well

Michelle did my hair for my wedding in August 2009 and damaged it permanently. She put so much heat in my hair (that I wear naturally), that my curl pattern is now altered/​damaged and has remained so since August 2009.
This salon claims to know how to manage «multicultural» hair, however ladies with African hair beware. I don’t think that Michelle has a full understanding of how unbelievably fragile African hair is. Never in the 32 years of hair salon visits that preceded my visit to Essence, had I ever encountered a stylist who permanently damaged or altered my hair in any way.
Totally careless.
