I Spent $ 20+ for a chef salad and sandwich — what a waste of money — You can get better grinders anywhere else! The meat was good quality but they put very little meat in it and why bother asking for tomatoes when they put 2 pieces of paper thin slices on the grinder. I would not go back. Not worth the price. Plus the guy who made the sandwich wiped his dirty hands on his apron and proceeded to wipe the knife he was using to make the sandwich on the same apron — not sanitary! Very sad, there was a time when I really liked eating at Steve’s Place.

«Giant» grinder was made to order, pretty good… but most certainly not a giant grinder. Meat portion was skimpy for the price. If the sad little sandwich I was served up is what I get for my $ 10 — I’d rather hit the supermarket for some lunch meat & make my own. It wasn’t bad by any stretch… really good, tbh. The portion was really miserable. «Premium» meat or not, when not paying for the name … I think a little more than the chain shop is fair… don’t you think? I hope next time I give this place a try… I get a giant grinder like the sign says. :)

Very friendly staff. I had the hot pastrami. Very fresh, not too greasy, but very tasty.

Food here is always great. Specials are fresh and appetizing. The sports memorabilia alone makes this place an A+

This place is very good. I’ve gotten salads, pasta dishes, burgers, and grinders. All of them are awesome. My personal favorite is the cold cut buffalo chicken grinder. Prices are decent(almost always under $ 10) but I promise you won’t go home hungry with a grinder from Steve’s. Give this place a shot. You won’t regret it.

This place is a Newington legend. My dad grew up in Newington and I always get a full, then take half home to Dallas when I’m in town. It’s all about the meatball with peppers and provolone, oven toasted. Can’t go wrong with it. In my 29 years it and the chicken pasta salad are the only things I’ve had here and I have no reason to change it up at this point. The chicken and pasta salad is also a must in my opinion. MEATBALLGRINDER. That’s all you need to remember YA’LL. :-)

Hardly any meat for the price you pay. They should take a lesson from Joey garlics. NOCOMPARISON! Don’t waste your money!

This place was pretty average in my opinion. The food was good but the prices didn’t seem competitive. In terms of meat I think it really depends on who makes your sandwich as well. I didn’t like that they didn’t take credit cards under a certain amount, makes it a pain to visit for lunch without stopping at the ATM. With Subway just down the road there was nothing here that really set it apart from me.

Pretty decent grinder place with good prices. If you want a burger or grinder for $ 7 or less, Steve’s Place is a solid option. The atmosphere is cluttered and it can be a little chaotic when you are waiting for your order to come out due to the awkward layout of the restaurant. The menu is hard to read because it is posted way behind the counter. Service is generally lacking. The food is pretty good and they use quality ingredients like Boar’s Head meat. Unfortunately, they don’t really have any signature dishes and the overall dining experience isn’t great. Good value though.

The food at Steve’s Place isn’t bad; there is a good selection of meats and cheeses, with very good bread to put it on. The portions are large at a fair price. However food isn’t the only aspect of the experience that is important, and while the food is decent, it is everywhere else that Steve’s Place starts to fall apart. The service is lukewarm at best, and it’s not that they are mean, or rude, but that they don’t seem to listen to what you ask. You can ask for a sandwich with certain toppings, but more often than not, you’re going to get the sandwich they want to make. All this, however, is not the worst part. What by far and above is the most troubling part of eat at Steve’s is the lack of appropriate hygiene. Gloves are worn inconsistently if at all. I personally witnessed a young man making a sandwich wearing a glove on one hand, yet grabbing lettuce and meats with the other; all this after having handled currency using the same gloved and ungloved hand. If hygiene doesn’t bother you, then give Steve’s a shot, the food isn’t bad. However if, especially in the age of highly infectious diseases, you care about hygiene, I’d advise eating somewhere where health standards are more strictly enforced.

Best grinders around. A half sandwich is huge and the whole can fill three people! Meat is Boars Head brand and bread is perfect. I love the turkey! Been going here for around 9 years and it always hits the spot!

There aren’t many truly great neighborhood sub shops, because becoming a truly great neighborhood sub shop is hard. It needs to be old, but clean. The bread needs to be perfectly soft. They need to slice EVERYTHING fresh to order. There needs to be pictures of Little League teams all over the walls. And everything needs to cost $ 8 or less. Steve’s has all of this. They hit every trope. It is local and wonderful and perfect. Their subs are platonic ideals of what good local subs should be — razor thin sliced meats and cheeses, and the soft bread is cut all the way through. This place is worth getting off the highway for. Please do.

Fantastic neighborhood sub joint! Extremely fresh ingredients, delicious pillowy bread, huge portions, downright cheap prices, and a great staff. Wish this place was in MY Neighborhood, I’d be here every day.

To me the two requirements for a great grinder is the quality of the bread and following closely behind is the quality of the meat. A grinder can be made with great bread(a.k.a the kind with a good crust that you have to fight with) but if the meat is sub-par(think meat made with a lot of fillers) my meal can totally be ruined. Bad Sandwich = Bad Meal = No Bueno Luckily, Steve’s Place fills both those requirements and is the place where I go to when I really want GRINDER and not a Sandwich(aka Subway). The grinders are made with high quality Boar’s Head meat that is freshly sliced when your order is placed. I would just eat the meat and the bread if given the chance but I usually add some toppings to my order. Most of the deli meat grinders are served cold but if you ask, they will press your sandwich on their panini press. In addition to your standard deli meat grinders their menu board boasts several hot grinders and some pasta options including their house made meatballs and sauce. As noted by previous reviews, the portions are huge. I have only once been able to finish a whole(not a half) grinder and that’s saying a lot because I have a pretty good appetite. Quality Bread + Quality Meat = Awesome Grinder(as well as one happy & repeat customer… enough said)

Eh. Nothing bad, but nothing too spectacular. At a local deli, I like to have something that wows me more than Steve’s did. Overall the sandwich was large, and not too expensive(7.99) but tasted more like a sandwich I could make at home by myself. Had turkey grinder with some toppings and nothing stood out. Meat was fine but not great. My wife had the same experience only worse. She ordered peppercorn turkey and ended up with a buffalo chicken deli sandwich. Kind of an easy error to notice straightaway. One great thing was the huge half sour deli pickle. It was the saving grace of the meal along with the potato salad side we got. The pasta looks good, but we werent eating in. Overall, a place we would go to if were in the area, but not go out of our way to go to.
