Fish was very good. Light, flaky, and great flavor, rice and beans were seasoned nice. Shrimp was just right. No oiliness on fish or shrimp, but slightly on hush puppies. Price was fair. Will be back.

I had the catfish, shrimp, red beans and rice and banana pudding. Catfish is really good, it was hot and crispy. Definitely worth checking out.

My mom, husband, and I found out about this place on Unilocal. We stopped in today and were very happy with our food! The catfish, collard greens, sweet potatoes, cornbread, and hush puppies were SOGOOD! The staff was very friendly, they asked if we’d ever been there before, and when we said no, they took the time to explain the menu and let us know what desserts were available. While we were eating the owner came by to check on us and see if we were enjoying our food. We will definitely be going back in the near future!

The catfish is amazing every time that we go here. I have tried many catfish places, and this is definitely one of the best. The candied yams are yummy and when they are serving the Mac n cheese, it’s not to be missed. The staff is always very nice and welcoming. This is one of our go to places for eating out.

I am not a seafood eater, but wanted to bring my hubby here as a treat(he LOVES catfish). The atmosphere makes you feel like you are down in the bayou. It just has that ‘feel’ to it. The prices are a little more than I expected, but believe me, you are getting what you pay for. My husband said it was the best catfish he’s ever had. I ordered the chicken strips(spicy) and I should have gotten the regular. The spicy is SPICY, and it was much more tolerable on the catfish. Hush puppies were great, as was the fried corn. We WILL be back!

Great find! We are from out of town and as we always do we go direct to Unilocal to help find us just the right place. Good catfish either spicy or regular, but for variety try both. Had the collard greens and the red beans and rice which were yummy. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere very low key with a down home feeling. We purchased a banana pudding and coke-a-cola cake to take back to our hotel for a sweet treat.

I got the gumbo and the fried shrimp. It was good and the fried corn was good also. My friend got catfish and greens and said it was good. Don’t let the outside of the place fool you, they have good food

Z-licious!!! Both the spicy and regular catfish were perfectly fried and fresh. Can’t wait to try the peach cobbler when I get home(no room left eat it there but would have came with ice cream). Highly recommended and will coming back!

Nice little place for lunch. The catfish was really enjoyable and filling. I personally LOVED the cornbread but my partner said it was too greasy for him. The fried corn was ok. Will be back.

Delicious food and friendly folks. My hubs and I took the girls out tonight. Oldest picked Z’s. Best decision the kid has made in years. I had the two piece catfish, fries and hushpuppies, as did the youngest. Hubs had the spicy version and fried corn. Oldest had gluten free version, which was a real treat for her… it is difficult to get catfish as a gluten free option in most places. Super clean fish. My favorite!!! I cannot wait to go back and have more… and try some dessert next time.

I had a coupon for buy one meal, get the second half off. So, a friend and I decided to give them a try. OMG… Fred(owner) was so polite and friendly. He asked if this was our first time, we answered yes. He explained the menu to us which was generous. We had the 2pc catfish meal, 3pc chicken strip meal, 2pc shrimp and fries. Everything was AMAZING!!!

Service and food were well executed both times I visited. Good to see people in the food business that care about their work! If you want quality fried food do not hesitate eating here. Even the sides are great.

Wow!!! The waitresses and cooks at Z’s catfish know the meaning of hustle. When I arrived there was a line out the door, I thought to myself«boy, this place is popular». The line moved so quick though and with such precision as a 5* place. The place was country but clean; plenty of seating for this popular little spot. Now let’s talk food:(1) Catfish– Flaky, thin, huge, and seasoned to perfection. I thought it could have used a few seconds less of cooking, but overall the texture was fantastic. I enjoyed the spicy catfish. (2) shrimp– fried to a pretty golden brown and covered in tasty cornmeal. I would have preferred the shrimp be spicy as well as the cornmeal lacked a little luster, but overall they were scrumptious and clean shrimp. (3) hush puppies– INCREDDDIBLE! I love their hushpuppies, so soft and moist but bursting with flavor. (4) chicken tenders — I was surprised at the size of the tenders and the fact that they didn’t taste like seafood. I found the chicken tenders to be just as delightful as the catfish. Overall, fantastic eats and I would definitely go back if I am in the area.

Saw the great reviews on Unilocal and decided to give this place a shot. The décor/appearance was average and it sits in a old strip mall location. The cashier was very pleasant and helpful explaining the menu. When someone(the owner?) noticed that the table I was sitting at was rocking, he came over and shimmied a matchbook under one of the legs so it wouldn’t wobble, which was much appreciated. I order a two-piece fried catfish lunch with red beans and cornbread. After taking a little while to come out, the catfish fillets were thin and slightly overcooked. Surprisingly, I like the fried catfish better at The Flying Saucer than here. The beans were good, but the star of the show was the cornbread. It was a little greasy, but was the first time I’ve ever had cornbread that looked and tasted like the kind my mother used to make so they win points for that! I personally think that the other reviews are a little high. But if you’re in the area and are dying for some old-fashioned skillet cooked cornbread, you should check it out.

I had been missing good catfish in Rockwall ever since the much-mourned Cajun Catfish closed down. Finally we got one! Yay! Z’s fills the need, at least in part. It’s more of a take-out joint than a real restaurant but they have their place too.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhlllllieeeeeee! It was off the chain, y’all! I discovered this place when I started a search on Unilocal a few weeks ago. I couldn’t resist after seeing all the rave reviews on Unilocal.Tonight was the night! I finally decided to try this place out and I’m glad I did. I’m not a huge fried food or seafood person mainly because people generally over do it-you know too much sugar or too much salt. Not here! I love being able to eat period, well eat delicious food that is, but not only tasty food but light tasting food that doesn’t stick to you like that awful after taste or that smell that’s stuck in your clothes from the too old fish grease that slaps you in the face when you open the door. They stuck to what works which is not trying to do too much. They didn’t over season or over cook anything because their family recipes are solid enough without it. And why would you ever mess with a good thing? If it ain’t broke… don’t go pokin around… ya heard. When you enter in, there is a familiar feeling you get that is followed up by plenty of smiling, humble faces. The black cherry walls are backdrop to the many b&w family photos with the occasional pieces of framed décor echoing the seniments of faith and family… in my opinion the cornerstone to any true version of soul or comfort food. There are tables with chairs or key lime booths cloaked to match the walls. While the aforementioned notes are all fine and dandy you didn’t click on this review for that. You want to know about the nitty gritty, the food, the grub, the good eats. Well… Shrimp…finger lickin’ good y’all Hush puppies. …hmmph…mmmph…hmmmp And if you don’t know I am a sides girl. The main dish can be niiiice but it ain’t nothing to write home about until you got good sides. And yes… Z has good sides… Red beans and rice… light… alright alright allllright! Collard greens… not over seasoned or overcooked! Yams…now wait a minute whooooo! Corn…check Plus they got some niiice cornbread too. My expressions above were included to denote my extreme feelings of gratification and genuine points of emphasis. Like I wrote on the wall…“glad I came” and like my Mom wrote,“jackpot!” And so I’ll close by saying like my Dad wrote,“I’ll be back! ”

Well, this is a hard one to evaluate. I think it would just be easier to write the pro’s and con’s: Pro’s: Roomy resturaunt Very clean inside Very friendly ownership Great tasting food Food is fresh and not greasy Clean bathroom Con’s All plastic, no silverware Paper plates, styrofoam bowls Get your own drinks Get your own plastic ware Get your own condiments Food is not presented well, does not look appetizing(but taste good) Prices are too high(in my opinion) Kids meal is pretty skimpy. My Son was still hungry when we left Now with all that being said, my Son and I did enjoy our food and the nice family that runs the place. The elderly cook actually came out of the kitchen to our table and she asked us if everything tasted good. She was very friendly, as was the rest of the crew. So, with the food tasting good and great friendly service, we will go back, but not very often due to the prices. I’m worried they might not succeed in their business due to the prices and presentation of food. Also, they should give you two sides per dish, as opposed to just one side. They could make the sides smaller when doing this. I posted 2 pictures of our $ 15.00 meal. 2 piece catfish w/side and cornbread patty and 1 kids meal with 2 drinks. 4 stars for good food, friendly service and cleanliness.
