On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina

I’m writing this review because I was highly pissed off when me and my brother came to eat here. We got seated, waited 15 minutes, still no one had came to assist us. We kept looking around hoping someone would of seen us, nothing. We could understand if they were busy, but they weren’t at all. 25 minutes had passed, still no service.
So we got up to go and as were walking out of the restaurant, the hostesses waves at us and says «Sorry» all sarcastically. Like really? Obviously she saw us sitting there with no service the whole time.

I believe this is my first-​ever 1-​star review. The luscious watermelon margaritas are the only reason it deserves that one star (don’t misunderstand — the watermelon marg’s are 5-​star, but everything else is so mediocre-​to-​awful that the marg’s alone don’t bring up the rating, for me). Primarily, the service, or lack thereof, is atrocious. On one occasion my family and I finally seated ourselves on the patio, after being literally ignored by 2 hostesses for over 10 minutes. On every occasion but one, we’ve had to flag down servers for everything we needed (we did try waiting patiently, but after 10 – 15 minutes, we flag). We’ve been here at lunch, happy hour, and dinner, weekends and weekdays — no difference, any time.
The food itself is overpriced for the quality (or lack thereof). Mostly flavorless, with low-​quality chicken and steak fajita meat (chewy; gristle-​y)… I could go on but I’ll stop. If the service wasn’t so, so, so consistently sub-​par, the mediocre food would be more worth putting up with.

Convenient stop on I-​30 is the only thing this place has going for it.
Told it would be a 25 min wait for a party of 3. After looking around and seeing 15 (no exaggeration) open, I asked the manager if they were short handed to which he become condescending and rude. He clearly needs to retrain his staff on seating order and himself on customer service.
I work hard and refuse to spend my money in a place that has no value for customers or service.

Food was good. Hot sauce and chips good. Music was way too loud and wrong genre!!! Ruined the atmosphere. Asked waiter and manager if they could please turn it down so we could hear each other. They ignored the request. Will not be back.

Let’s start with took 15 minutes to get our drink order. Once we finally got our drinks and placed our order we never saw our server until it was time for the check. My food came out cold, drinks were never refilled. The service here basically sucks along with the food. Only thing good about this meal was that my 4 year old liked the queso. I won’t be coming here again.

The service we received here was astronomically bad! Drinks and chips initially came fast, but that was all the quickness we got. Twenty miniatures after that we had to flag down our waitress to order. She said, «I’m just waiting on y’all!» I’m sorry, what?!? You haven’t been around for 20mins to check on us. Almost walked out at that point. But we ordered and waited, and waited and waited. Between the fist waiting periods she said she would be back with chip refills. Waited 20mins for that before we flagged another waitress. Two minutes later… it’s a miracle chips!
Forty minutes after we ordered we asked about our food. «It’s coming.» Of course.
Then finally lukewarm food. Awesome.
Needless to say, we won’t be back. That’s for the horrible Mother’s Day dinner On the Boarder!

We ate at this restaurant in California and the food was excellent. At this location it was mediocre at best. Fajitas were burnt, mini tacos were dried out. We sat outside and the noise was horrible.

Don’t waste your time. Taco Bell is better than this particular OTB.
Our waiter was very nice. He was also inept. In watching the staff, it is clear there is a very large management/​ownership problem here. But, seemingly like all restaurants in Rockwall, this place always looks busy, so they have no reason to try to improve.
I am not a picky eater. I have never not eaten a meal at a restaurant — well, until now. I took two bites and didn’t touch my plate again so I just filled up on bland chips and average salsa. Our nice, but inept server never noticed, and I sat for over 30 minutes with a full plate of food in front of me. I could have called him over, but wanted to see what it would take for him to do his job. I never found out.
As we were getting ready to pay, he asked me if I’d like to box up my meal and take it home. When I told him «No.» and what I thought of it, he did comp the meal — which, again, was nice.
It was interesting that no manager came (I’m assuming our inept waiter had to get managerial authorization to comp a meal). It doesn’t really surprise me though, as most of the restaurant staff looked to be enjoying themselves a great deal talking with each other instead of cleaning or attending to guests. As I said up top, it is obvious there is a large management/​ownership problem here.

Ordered food to go for a party during the holidays. Everything was great. Clint was very helpful with the whole thing. The food was hot and fresh and ready when they said it would be. I would highly recommend On the Border Catering for your next party. We will come back again and again.

I just ate here with my boyfriend this evening and I have to say it was one the worst experiences I’ve had in a long time.
We came in around 8pm sat down and were served chips but then never had a waiter come up to us for about 5 minutes. We did have the bus boy ask if we had been helped and when we replied no he went and grabbed the waiter from the congregation of servers at the back. He came took our order since we already knew what we wanted. Brought us our drinks then never came back till our food was delivered.
I had ordered quesadillas and there was barely any ingredients inside plus it was soggy. When we flagged down the waiter he said ok and brought me a new order a few minutes later. (Sorry was never said and even though he did not make it he does represent the restaurant therefore sorry goes a long way)
We put the card on the edge of the table so we could get out of there and then again the bus boy noticed and grabbed our waiter again.
I did feel bad for the manager he did get onto the congregation of servers twice and escorted the hostess to her stand as well. People need to realize people do watch and take more pride in their work.
Two people did stand out as impressive first the bus boy with black gel hair and then a red hair server they both seemed to be working very hard. The manager was also working hard but not the same can be said for the other waitresses and waiters.
This review does not have anything to do with the bar area as I was not in that area.

Love happy hour at OTB Good chips and sauce that’s the key to a good Tex-​mex restaurant Good fajitas

Sitting here in the restaurant looking around at how dirty this facility is. This is the tail end of the lunch rush but still shouldn’t be this bad. Our waiter just tossed our check on the table so we ‘can get out of here as quick as possible’. Food was not very good, service was poor. Don’t think I’ll be going back any time soon-​or ever.

Ok so went here for an early dinner after work. The place is not bad. Would be a place I would take the family to. They had some interesting margaritas and the food was priced well.

Stopped in for lunch just after noon on Friday and was seated promptly. The waiter got our drinks and food out with little wait. We ordered fajitas and enchiladas with all the usual sides, everything was cooked and presented well. Each item tasted good as it should, no uni-​flavor here.
OK, so why only 4 stars? Had to wait a couple of times for drink refills, it seems only your waiter is capable of refilling your water or ice tea… however I was given a ice tea in a to-​go cup when the bill was brought to the table. Nice touch on a 104′ Texas day.

We thought our waiter was great but the food was ok. There was nothing really wrong but, for what we paid, it just doesn’t make a lot of sense. Paper napkins, plastic cups, small portions, the guys who brought the food out forgot the tortillas for the fajitas, disappointed is all I can say. I wouldn’t return because the bang for the buck is just not there. There is a nice area for dining outside.

The food is generic. It’s good and filled with carbs. Ingredients didn’t seem fresh. I got cheese enchiladas which were good, but heavily processed.
Daughter said it was a 2
Wife said it was a 4
I say a 3.

If you want bland but fattening tex mex, this is the place to go. I came here with family during dinner because my nephew likes the chips. I shouldn’t have trusted his toddler taste buds (ahem, brother). Our waiter was friendly and attentive but he was kinda rushing us towards the end to pay? Not like in a rude way but you could tell he wanted to go home.
For the food, just don’t go there. It’s somewhat pricier than normal tex mex but the taste was just bleh. Pretty sure you could find another restaurant to go to that has better taste in Rockwall.
I would never go there again. Sorry nephew!

I have to start off with saying I’ve never been a huge fan of OTB’s food, which is the only reason I gave this place 4 stars.
Having said that, the fajitas are really good and there are a few things here and there on the menu that are pretty good. Actually believe it or not, they have the best salsa around!
I almost gave this place 5 stars because I always have a great time in this bar. There’s not 1 bad bartender and the ginger-​haired manager is a Boss! I’m always Very well taken care of and my drinks are always right on the money.
Come here and give them a chance. You should be very pleased overall. I recommend sitting in the bar!

My wife and I had dinner here for a date night and had exceptional service. We were seated promptly, chips, salsa and water delivered almost immediately and the food was fresh and delicious. Very good Tex-​Mex!
We’ve been going to this location for the past 15 years and will continue to do so. I have read some of the negative reviews and will let you know that everyone will have a bad experience in a restaurant from time to time but at this location, it is the exception and not the norm.

New to the area, so tryig just about every restaurant. Upon arrival, my party was met by the hostess and seated in the bar area. We figured this was because there were only a few patrons in the restaurant and a gaggle of employees by the take out station. We assumed they were about to be cut for the night. The bartender came over and asked for our drink order. No greeting, no name. After getting it, he sends a coworker to the back to get it. Immediately, I was disgusted because I saw that he was carrying the cups with his fingers inside it. I didn’t drink mine and my partner asked for another.
Seeing that it wasn’t so busy, you would think the food would be right out. Wrong. When it finally arrived, we had to wait for tortillas for at least another five minutes. Why bring out part of our order if we cannot even eat it?
So the tortillas arrive and we can now eat our fajitas. My partner ordered the Monterey chicken ranch and I ordered the ultimate. The chicken on both of our orders were bland. My partner said his tasted like the skillet. The only thing I found good were the four pieces of steak.
The small things like a welcome when you enter and a thank you when leaving are things we enjoy. Working in customer service for more than twenty years combined, we know it when we see it. This On The Border fails in this area and with their food. Guess we will have to find another close by.
