I had a Dickeys gift card and was told I couldn’t use it there because of «bank problems» whatever that means. Eaten there twice and was disappointed. Both the meat and sides were not tasty at all and the meat was room temperature.

In a metroplex full of stellar BBQ choices, a place like Dickey’s BBQ Pit is the equivalent of a Wendy’s instead of a proper hamburger. Sure, the location is clean, the staff is nice, and the food is OK. Some of the bonus I like about Dickey’s are that you get a plastic yellow cup that is great to take home and keep, free soft serve ice-cream, and wonderful tasting iced-tea. The BBQ is just absolutely average, more of a 2.5÷5 than 3, but there is no reason to throw them down under the bus. This is simply average, typical, heat-box, wrapped in plastic kinda BBQ that you will find at most chain style BBQ places around the area. Someone from out of town might be impressed, but you locals should know better… incredible BBQ is less than 20 minutes away. I will not even say that I do not like Dickey’s, because its filling, tasty and easy to eat. But any BBQ place that depends on sauce for flavor is already losing points, when they pull meat out of a heat-box they lose even more, and when they choose quantity of locations over quality of food and preparation: they lose me all together. Way back when, Dickey’s started with the best of BBQ intentions. Decades later, their goal is to make as much money as possible. You can taste it in every bite.

I am glad to say that this Dickey’s has re-opened with new ownership and has greatly improved! And I agree with everything in the previous posts.

Moved to Rockwall in 2010 … there are many choices for barbecue and by far Dickey’s is the last resort. Staff is in different, food is below par. I tried it in hope it got better but they simply do not seem to care about presenting a quality product or service.

I feel bad posting this. I’m really not one to complain about place I’ve been. But there are plenty of better BBQ options locally. Brought in a coupon I found in an drawer at the house. Signed by the manager with no expiration date. After presenting it to the manager he said it was not good and ripped it up right in front of me. That’s fine, I’ve eaten here a few times before and the BBQ is sub par, the people are slow, and the manager/owner is just rude.

I have only lived in Texas for a few years and I am just beginning my BBQ journey. I don’t yet consider myself a BBQ snob in the same league as some of my friends, but boy did it come out in me today. I met some friends at Dickey’s for dinner tonight. I ordered the chopped beef sandwich with no toppings(normally comes with BBQ sauce, pickles and onions). Now I’m going to terribly offend the BBQ purists — I asked for mayo and they did not have any. I know, I know, mayo at a BBQ place is just wrong, but mayo on a chopped beef sandwich is so good. Alas, I would have to do without. I also ordered the mac and cheese and green beans as my sides. The sandwich was okay. Nothing special. I am being very serious when I say this, but I had a bought a better chopped beef sandwich in the Wal-Mart parking lot last weekend. The mac and cheese was abysmal — a few spiral noodles with a tiny bit of cream sauce and a few flecks of melted shredded cheese. And, it was cold. The green beans were completely forgettable and also barely warm. The diet coke was just fine! I’m not giving it a one star review because the food was edible and«fine» — just nothing special or to recommend. However, the service was good and friendly, the restaurant seemed clean and the location was good. I would never choose to go here myself, but if someone else really wanted to go I wouldn’t throw a fit about it.
