I just started going here maybe a month or so ago and I can’t believe as someone who loves jampong and jajangmyun I’ve never been here before. I just had dinner here today for something quick, yummy and on the cheaper end. The jampong is good — broth is spicy and has depth of flavor, though I don’t think they make their own noodles, they’re chewy and cooked just long enough. The jajangmyun is suuuuper delicious though. The black bean sauce isn’t too salty or oily, and isn’t composed of only onions(like some places do). The only thing is that even though this a smaller place, they can get pretty packed and it’s usually one person waiting on everyone, so she can get overwhelmed, so patience goes a long way!

My experince at Wa Ja Jang was kind of mixed. The dishes ranged from average to slightly above or below. The dishes I tried were: –Spicy Pork Bulgogi(3⁄5) — This was basically just your average spicy pork bulgogi. It was pretty good, but I’ve had much better. — Ja Jiang Mein aka noodles with black bean sauce(3.75÷5) — This was the best dish of the night. I’ve had Chinese/Taiwanese style Ja Jiang Mein a million times over, but I’d never had the Korean version. I was excited to try, and was not disappointed. The noodles were fresh and had a good texture. The sauce had chunks of pork, potato, and onion in it. It was absolutely addicting. I couldn’t stop eating it. Very different from other Ja Jian Mein I’ve had, but tasty, nonetheless. They definitely get points for this dish, considering I’ve been to a lot of Korean places in the area and never seen it. — Japchae(2.75÷5) — This is essentially a sweet potato noodle dish with a lot of veggies and some meat. It was the most disappointing dish I had there. The dish was okay, but it was extremely salty, which just overpowered any other flavors in it. Wang Ja Jang is a really good bang for your buck. The portions are huge. The service is about a 3⁄5. The waitress was fine, but didn’t really go out of her way to provide good service. All in all, it was okay, but there’s better Korean food in the area(try House of Milae in Bethesda!) The only reason I would go again is for the Ja Jiang Mein.

Good food, but as noted by others, slow service(at least for Sunday night dinner when we went) due to low staffing. Allow at least an hour. Very ample sized portions.

Stopped in here on Saturday night for dinner. They weren’t very busy so we received great attention and service. We ordered fried dumplings, the bibimbap, and the chop chae. The food was great! The portion of dumplings was huge and they were hot and crispy. My husband lived in Korea awhile and he loves bibimbap; he said this one was very good. The chop chae was nicely cooked, had lots of veggies and noodles, and the portion was enormous. We ended up with enough left over for dinner the next night as well. The banchan was good but we really like a wide assortment and there wasn’t a lot of variety, which would be the only somewhat negative part of our visit. The tea was great and the bill was under $ 40, which we found very reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food. We will be back.

Minus one star because there is only one lady server. If you go during the dinner time on weekends, be prepare to wait for a while to get your food. It took me 40 mins to get my dish. The server(I am assuming the owner?) will be everywhere(from the kitchen, taking order, bringing food, to cashier) and you will not get a good service. I wanted to ask her for more water and more side dishes, and she just seemed too busy to even look at us. Parking lot is small but I think it has enough space for everyone. This place is isolated from the main area, so you probably have to drive there. I didn’t see metro or bus around. Inside was just like other Asian restaurants. Nothing fancy, but it was fairly clean. And many tables for guests. There is a TV inside as well(The channel is always on Korean news though). Ah, Food! Definitely get their kang poong gi(Deep Fried Chicken in Garlic Sauce). It’s very crispy outside and sweet. It tastes freshly made. I personally like it better than tang soo yook(Sweet & Sour Pork) because it has a hint of spicy taste to it. If you get a combo(noodle & kang poong gi), the size of appetizer is a lot smaller compared to the regular appetizer.(probably almost a half size) But you also pay a lot less. So for me ordering combo was a great deal because I probably won’t finish the whole appetizer by myself anyway. I think their black bean noodle is better than spicy seafood noodle because their spicy seafood noodle was not that spicy for me. I don’t know if it was because they were rushing making food, but the food tasted better last time when it wasn’t so busy. Price is also great. If you don’t order any appetizer, you can get almost every meal under $ 10. But I definitely recommend getting combo for around ~$ 15, 16 because it is definitely worth it! Again, Try to avoid coming during the dinner time on the weekend. Service was terrible, but I would definitely come for their food again when it’s not busy.

The best Korean food in the area! Cheap, authentic, and always consistent. The portions are pretty large, especially for the prices. They have awesome combo deals where you can get 2 dishes for about $ 14-$ 16 — and they’re normal sized dishes, not«combo» versions where they skimp you on portion. I get the Jam Pong($ 8.99), which is a spicy seafood soup with noodles. The portion is huge! The bowl is massive and they are very generous with the noodles and seafood. And the broth is not too spicy– just right. The place is a small little joint in the middle of a sad looking shopping strip off of E Gude. It’s a small and dated little place, but clean and quiet. Give this place a try if you’re in the mood for delicious authentic Korean, you won’t be disappointed!

I LOVETHISPLACE. I went to this place after Short Track practice everyday. It’s insane. I really miss this place. Their Jjamppong and jja jang myun reminds me of Korea all over again. Their dishes are fantastic as well. I really miss this place and I definitely want to go back when I’m in the area again.
My oh my are the portions huge. I thought I was hungry enough to eat a bear when I walked in. WRONG! Ordered a sweet chicken and jjajangmyeon combo($ 13.99). Could not believe how much food there was. The bowl of noodles was stacked pretty high. Sweet chicken was pretty bomb. I was grinning like a fool the entire time I was eating. Jjajangmyeon had good black bean flavor, not burnt. Noodles were springy and the right amount of chewy. Garlic chicken was just okay. Crunchy but didn’t taste much of the sauce. Dumplings were okay but nothing to rave about. Come for the black bean noodles and the combo deal! Still had leftovers for my next meal. Sweeet!

The jja jang myun noodles are definitely the popular combination deal here. For appetizers, we ordered the fried dumplings. I just remembered what I ordered was #6 on the menu the black bean noodles and sweet chicken combination. The serving size is definitely large so come hungry! I do like the beef within the jja jung myun, nice and soft. Do come by for lunch or dinner. It’s a tad bit too heavy for breakfast.

3.5 stars. Wang Ja Jang doesn’t have the best Korean food in the area, but it’s still makes a pretty satisfying meal! Their Jja Jang Myun is great! For about $ 6, you get a big bowl of noodles with black bean sauce, onions, and pork. If you’re feeling hungry, you can get the combo with the tang-soo-yuk(fried pork in sweet sauce) for a couple bucks more. I like the fried pork, but I can do without the sauce. I think there is another protein option with the combo. You can also order the JJM with extra noodles. I thought their Jam Pong(Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup) was just okay. It’s not as spicy as other Korean restaurants. It was mostly squid and had a lot of onions in it. The seafood was of the frozen kind. My friends’ Jap Chae and dumpling soup looked tasty! The restaurant is small and not the best option for big groups. The service can be a little slow. The past few times I’ve been, I’ve only seen one server.

Decent Korean-Chinese cuisine restaurant in Rockville area. Small and cozy inside; it seems like it’s been around for awhile. They have a variety of dishes to choose from. They have special combos that are decently priced. I’ve ordered the jja jang myun(black bean noodles) and kkang Poong Ki(spicy chicken) combo for $ 14.99! Some other options are jjang bbong(spicy seafood noodle soup), tang Soo Yook, fried rice, etc. Your entrees come with side dishes and they are just okay. Our food came out so quickly… a little too quickly. It kind of made us nervous lol. It made us think that the food wasn’t fresh. Friendly service although the lady charged the wrong amounts on our credit cards at the end :/

Decent Korean Chinese restaurant. The jja jang myun was good. I wasn’t really a fan of the jam pong just because it was too oily and not very flavorful. The kkanpunggi was decent but I don’t recommend getting that and tangsuyuk, too much deep fried food. Pick one and you’ll get the idea. Overall it was decent but it is definitely not healthy. Also, only order one combination item if you’re looking at the combos. they come in full sizes so it is a TON of food. enough for 4 people. My main gripe was that we waited a very long time to get any attention from the waitress. there was only one person serving all the customers so you can imagine the wait. it seemed needlessly inefficient. of course, don’t bother trying to get your barley tea refilled, you’ll be lucky to get your order in after 20 minutes of sitting around. then you have to wait even longer to get the check. So if you’re really craving Chinese Korean, make the trip but leave plenty of time blocked off on your calendar. And use your cheat meal for it. Definitely bang for your buck at the end of the day.

It was very mediocre to say the least. Nothing was terrible, just extremely underwhelming. It’s in this tiny shopping center(I don’t even know if I would call it that to be honest) off of E. Gude Drive. The restaurant itself was very small and quiet. The service was fine. Food was again, just mediocre. There was one thing that really was annoying. I ordered the beef soondubu and got the seafood one but that’s whatever I guess. Here’s the breakdown of what I had: Seafood Soondubu: 2.5÷5 — Not as rich in flavor than I anticipated. The seafood was obviously a frozen mix out of a bag. Underseasoned. Bulgogi: 3⁄5 — Just standard bulgogi to be honest. Jajangmyeon: 3⁄5 — Noodles had really good texture. Had good flavor, but was just missing seasoning. Sweet and Sour Chicken: 2.5÷5 — Standard sweet and sour chicken. Go here if you want fast, simple, and cheap. It won’t blow your mind, but it’ll get you full without having a huge whole in your wallet.

We’ll have to try it again. We enjoyed it. Not the best we’ve had, but definitely on the better side. We’ll have to try the Jja Jang Myun next time. Service was great. Not a fancy location, for those of you interested in looks. Its more of a mom and pop shop. I wouldn’t go as far as describing the place as a hole in the wall. We had: Kahm poong gi — spicy sweet sour chicken. alright Tahng sooh Yook — pineapple sauce sweet and sour pork. Delicious! Jjam Bhong. — spicy seafood noodle soup. Could have been a bit spicier, but was well in that, make-you-cough, spicy range.

Went there for lunch today and talk about a sweet deal! My friend and I ordered their special combo of their jia jang myun and tang su yuk for $ 14. Because they came out with such a large portion, my friend kept thinking they didn’t hear us say we were sharing our meal and brought out two portions instead. lol Fortunately, she was wrong and we were so full just from this one portion combo. They also give side dishes to start with, which included kimchi, spicy radishes, sliced cabbage strips, and onions. Situated on East Gude in Rockville, this little gem was delicious and affordable. It’s also next to Les Delices, a mom and pop bakery that’s been around for 28 years. Make that your dessert stop. For lunch and dinner though, I recommend this place. Wang Ja Jang was a simple and casual dining experience and I would definitely go back since they provided great service and amazing deals. Their ja jang myun noodles were al dente and the black bean paste was flavorful without being too salty. Their tang su yuk was also perfectly sweetened and deep fried without feeling sticky and overly sweet. Drop by for lunch if you are searching for another Korean restaurant!

My family’s favorite Chinese-Korean restaurant was Dae Sung Kwan, located near Wheaton. That place closed a long time ago and what I loved eating there was their jja jang myun, kkang-pung-gi and tang-soo-yuk. So, I was quite happy with Wang Ja Jang. They have a similar menu, although this place looks like a dive instead of somewhere nice like Dae Sung Kwan. The Jja jang myun was decent, not the best ever, but it’s ok for Moco standards. The kkang-pung-gi was pretty good. They give you chicken chunks instead of chicken legs with bones, but the flavor was spot on and it was pretty crispy. They have pretty good combination meals priced reasonably. For $ 14 I got the jja jang myun and kkang-pung-gi combo. Seems like a regular portion. The next time I am here I will try their tang-soo-yuk(sweet and sour beef).

If your in the area and don’t want to travel to college park or Annandale this is the place to be for some good olé Chinese style Korean food. We had the jjam boong, tang soo yook, jja jjang myun with some pa jun. That’s spicy seafood soup, sweet and sour pork, black bean noodles(extra pork of course) and seafood pancake. I’ll give it up for the seafood pancakes. They’re nice thick with a good crust on them. Probably one of the best in the area. The other dishes were ok, not memorable. I dinged them a star because the restaurant was so packed the lone lady there had to run around. Soon as she turned a table another would walk in. It got so bad I had to ask her to leave the whole pitcher of water on the table. She was in such a rush that she started spilling some of the left over soup on he floor while clearing the tables. So… let me get this straight, host, serve, and bus tables for a packed 50 seat restaurant? The owner should wise up and hire some more help. On the other hand a lot of people seemed to order the clam dish. Will have to try that next time.

They used so much MSG in their food that my hands became numb(only restaurant food I had today) and extremely thirsty. Not going back at all. I don’t care how good the food is if they use MSG in their food to this extent, I won’t return. Their black noodles were okay, the noodles at this restaurant are not made in house. The fried garlic chicken — you could taste the garlic and it was similar to sweet and sour chicken. The seafood noodle soup was alright but the seafood was not fresh and they used dried squid, you could barely eat the squid. There was only one shrimp in the whole bowl of the soup. Went here for the reviews I read and curiosity of the restaurant. However I won’t recommend it and won’t return. The prices were inexpensive, but the quality also reflected that.

So glad the bro suggested WJJ for din-din. This cozy establishment is conveniently near the shooting range and golf course *thumbs up*. Next time I’ll drop by w/the better half for the jjajangmyeon and tangsuyuk combo.(Personally I think it should be spelled«jjajangmyun» but no big whoop.) BTW when Su K. raves about the combo portions, be prepared with stretchy denim and ask for the remains to-go lol: D Thankfully my bro helped decrease the comestibles :) The leftovers made a dandy 11pm snack. The foodporn doesn’t do the combo justice. ‘Tis huge, y’all and worth the $ 13.99(thanks bro for the good eats). Since I always blanket a large kimchi piece over my jjajangmyeon before folding it with my chopsticks, I cannot testify in detail the actual taste of the jjajang sauce. But I kept slurping up the noodles so it must’ve been edible. Higher onion ratio than the pork which is the norm unless that restaurant is having a grand opening or such… let’s be real… Oh and I enjoyed the bouncy stretchy noodles — that’s what’s expected. The tangsuyuk’s tangy sweet and sour sauce kept the fried pork chunks from being ignored throughout the combo experience. Again I blanket the bites with kimchi… I blanket everything with kimchi. Wise and seasoned bro of WJJ simply ordered fried dumplings knowing the hearty portions of my combo. Tasted yummy w/o any dipping sauce and yes I blanketed those with kimchi too. Don’t judge. We really appreciated our server. I LOVE when the staff are bilingual in Korean joints. I speak Konglish so usually there’s some break in the line of communication but not this night. FYI, I understand 100% — problem is I speak 50%…let’s move on. She was so chill yet courteous, efficient, and patient. I took a pic of her name — don’t laugh — I heart her. The bro has been here many times and shared that the staff are all patient and accommodating so yeah, I’ll be back. Now this is in a small hole-in-the-wall type of plaza so you may miss it if you’re searching at night w/o a gps. With all the lit up signs on the HITW strip don’t be afraid to make a u-turn — it’s on East Gude… there’s no traffic on this boony section of Rockville.
