Two Maids & A Mop

My place looks beautiful every time they come. I love them. First off, they are so easy to get a hold of. LA does a great job of really treating you more than just another customer. Secondly, the staff is as polite as they are efficient at cleaning, which is amazing. Lastly, they are without a doubt the most punctual maid service I’ve ever had.

This was the ladies’ first time at our home. They asked for priorities and then went right to work. They were poised, polite, communicated perfectly and cleaned perfectly. I am really particular with housecleaning services. These gals did not need any instructions and used all the right products. I would do it again and would recommend them to everyone. After some research, I was planning to hire Two Maids as our new bi-​monthly cleaning service, because I like their concept of paying their people based on their customer reviews. They require that each new user purchase a «pay by the hour» clean (what other companies refer to as a starter «deep clean»). This is fairly standard. I did try to negotiate out of it (since my house had just been cleaned 7 days before by my previous service), but they require it. OK. The girls arrived, I showed them around, and all was well. They did come in and tell me that they had goofed up my drain in my main bathroom (it’s always been a bit wonky, but they somehow managed to get it stuck). The girl was very straightforward with me about it, and I told her it was no big deal (as I know it’s always been a bit strange, and it could easily not have been their fault). I really appreciated her honesty with me about that.
But overall, my «pay by the hour» service wasn’t great. I paid for two people for 2.5 hours (a total of 5 hours). They sent three people, but I was told when they arrived that only two would be cleaning, because one was a trainee and was being supervised by the third person. I wasn’t thrilled that I had a trainee cleaning my house when I was paying by the hour (and actually heard the supervisor telling the trainee to go back and re-​clean things, which was a waste of my time/​money to have things done twice). But they also weren’t even physically in my house for more than two hours and 8 minutes. I work from home as a consultant, and have a time tracker on my machine that i have to click whenever I stop work (for example, when I answer the door, or stop working to talk to vendors), so I know exactly how long they were there. In addition, my office looks out on the driveway, and for the last 10 minutes of that two hours and 8 minutes, two of the women were standing at the car (one was talking on her cell phone, the other one was loading up the cleaning supplies). So, that was really frustrating (to pay by the hour for 5 hours, but receive only 4).
My old service used to clean the entire house in 2.5 hours with two women. This service cleaned only the following in two hours: the kitchen, three bathrooms, two bedrooms, and the living room. They cleaned part of my floor (mopped the upstairs, but not the stairs or any rooms downstairs).
And lastly, the cleaning job was good, but not great. I would give them a B or a B+ on that part of it. The cleaning job was good enough that I would have continued to use them had I not gotten ripped off on the hourly charges. They offered to come and clean the kitchen again (the part that wasn’t cleaned very well), but I declined, as I knew that I didn’t trust them any more, and wasn’t going to use their service in the future.
Oh, and to finish it out — when I complained to LA (the woman I had been dealing with), she tried to claim that I was upset with the girls the entire time (not true, and easily demonstrated by the fact that I didn’t get upset at them for sticking my drain to the point that i had to get someone in to fix it this past week), she claimed that the girls were there for the full time (not true, as i can easily prove by computer timer) and she claimed that it should have been fine that I had a trainee doing the work when i was paying by the hour. I asked for 20% of my money back (since I only received 80% of the time I paid for), but she flat out denied me. Oh, and lastly — she said that she felt that I wouldn’t have been satisfied no matter what. The proof that that isn’t true is easily demonstrated by the fact that I have since hired another firm, and have been very happy with them.
Bottom line — maybe they’re a good service when you aren’t paying by the hour, but the hourly service is a straight-​up rip off.

I used Two Maids in Rockville, MD in the Washington, DC area, and they were great. Excellent customer service and top notch cleaning. The company pays its cleaning staff on a «performance pay» system, which motivates them to do a good job. A good rating means more money for the cleaning people, and they do their best. Great concept. They also customize the service — will reduce costs if you don’t want various rooms cleaned. Very customer-​oriented service. Reasonable rates. I’ve used other cleaning services, but this is one I can rate with 5 stars. Highly recommend the Rockville service.
