Bob’s Bakery & Café is a new Asian bakery that opened in Rockville. It’s selection is smaller than Maria’s Bakery and Asian Bakery Café but they still have a pretty good selection. They encourage you to use cash so that you can save 10%. We bought a few items to try such as Snow Cake, Mochi Egg Tart and Brown Sugar, Taiwanese Coconut Tart, Custard Pineapple Bun, and Scallion Bun. So far — everything’s pretty tasty. The Snow Cake comes in a box of six slices of cake for $ 2.95. I don’t know why they call it cake but it’s basically coconut jello rolled or topped in shredded coconut. The Scallion Bun is a sweet and buttery bun topped with scallion and sesame seeds. I’ll admit it was pretty savory. I have yet to the try the Mochi Egg Tart and Brown Sugar, Taiwanese Coconut Tart, and Custard Pineapple Bun but they look delicious.

Our family is a big fan of roast pork or barbeque pork buns and good ones are hard to find in this area. We used to buy them from Kam Sam market across the street, but they went out of business. The pork buns – while they don’t match what we used to buy are still the best we’ve found in the area. The price is okay $ 1.65 each but you get one free when you buy 5. They were $ 1.35 at Kam Sam with one free for every four purchased. Maybe that’s why they’re out of business. What drives me crazy about this place is that you can’t count on them having any buns ready when they first open up every day and even an hour or so after they open. The staff is clueless on when they will have any ready on any given day. If they had their act together I’d give them 5 stars, but for now they are just average.

I have not tried their food, but I’ve had the baked items on 3 or 4 diff occasions. Some gimmicky items that appears to be different from the traditional taiwanese baked stuff(like the egg tart w/mochi at the bottom). It was okay, but seemed more gimmick and felt like the added mochi didnt really pair well in that combo. I really like their traditional egg tarts and scallion dried pork rolls. Hubby likes the taro round puffs. This is our new favorite bakery in the rockville area. The other locations seemed either over priced(Bread Corner) or didn’t suit my tastes as some were more cantonese style(Asian Bakery Café). It’s just a matter of preference though. My MIL likes the Asian Bakery Café better and it’s also reasonably priced as well.

The employees are SUPER nice and always tell you about the special. Today the(owner, I think?) gave my sister and I a free sample of one of the items. It was delicious. He also gave us some chamomile tea(for free!). We will DEFINITELY be coming back again.

I came here in hopes that it would be comparable to Maria’s bakery-not even close. Their lunch specials didn’t include a drink. I tried to ask after reading about the special on Unilocal but the did not honor it. I got the curry chicken which did not have enough sauce for me to finish my rice. The husband got the chicken wings which I personally did not like. They marinated it with some type of bean paste. I doubt I’ll be back.

Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night after purchasing a Unilocal deal($ 15 for $ 30, not valid on Fridays/Saturdays, can only be used on café food). We walked in around 6PM and were the only other party. The space is large but it felt empty due to the lack of decorations. I also spotted some salon chairs near the front of the shop(I’m guessing they got these from the salon next door). Mulled around for a minute until the employee noticed us and told us to have a seat. We perused the menu but unfortunately there aren’t many options. My dad settled on the Night Market Steak and I got the beef noodle soup. We also ordered fried squid with spicy garlic to share. The Night Market steak is a slab of meat with brown sauce and noodles underneath, and a fried egg on the side. It had a peppery and savory taste which I liked, but my dad later complained that it was too vein-y. He did say that he liked how it was cooked though(slightly pink in the middle). My beef noodle soup was more herbal than hearty, and it had the same noodles as my dad’s dish. The chunks of beef were huge but unfortunately almost inedible due to the chewiness. The fried squid was crispy but lacked flavor. We also bought some bread to go. The selection was limited(I’m assuming since we went late at night) and a bit pricier than other bread shops. I like the bread choices they had. I tried a bun that were basically three mini-buns in one: taro filled, cream filled and red-bean filled. I liked the texture of the bread(soft, fluffy, chewy) but they lacked filling so I had many bites of just bread. So overall, Appearance: 3⁄5. Spacious but empty, and looks a bit run down for a new bakery. Service: 4⁄5. Service was pretty good, but they only gave us one napkin and we didn’t get any water with our meal. Food: 3⁄5. Everything had a good and bad part to the dish. Baked goods: 4⁄5. Good texture but lacks filling. Seems to have a lot of variety though! I’ll probably come again to try their breads or their breakfast. But I would only get the café food if the Unilocal deal is available.

Ordered my dad’s 70th birthday cake from here. They did an absolutely amazing job creating the cake. Not only the cake was beautiful, it was also very tasty! I got the mixed fruit cake. Very yummy. Highly recommend this place!

This updates my previous review — I have been a regular customer at Bob’s Bakery, but my latest interaction really upset me. Here’s my updated review. Beware! I bought a $ 30 Groupon that clearly says valid for«food and baked goods, valid any day.» I wanted to buy their baked goods. But they refused to honor it, saying that it is only valid for their restaurant food. I was absolutely livid. The restaurant food looked merely meh, compared to other offerings within a 2-block radius. Please re-train your staff, and improve your business practices! I am the type of customer your want to keep — big family, lots of baked goods.

Awesome new bakery in Rockville! They have a vast selection of Taiwanese-style buns, breads, egg tarts, mochi, and sandwiches in their bakery section. They also have a small area for dining and a cute café menu with street food faves(different pickled veggies, noodle soups, rice dishes and chicken wings). I bought some buns and a dish of fried rice to go. Everything was yummy. I will be back to try their noodle soups and sandwiches!

I love trying out new places! This one is close to home. we were headed for another noodle shop, but when we drove past Bob’s and saw a bunch of people, we decided to give it a try. Their service is superb, with the server seating us immediately, we had multiple people checking on us. so nice, especially compared to places like Shanghai taste, where we love the food, but the service is lackluster. It has gotten better, but I hate it when they give you the American menu and forks off the bat… so annoying. Anyway, back to Bob’s Bakery. son had the beef noodle, very tasty, though I think Shanghai does it better, and gives you more. so does Jumbo Jumbo. I had the buffalo wings, nice and crispy… And with prices under $ 10.00 and great service will def be back!

Amazing breakfast. The egg tart is wonderful. The filling was not too sweet which is the way I enjoy my pastries. The crust was very flakey and was not dry. I ordered the bacon egg roll and it was delicious. It was pretty much breakfast sushi. The place is clean and there is ample parking. The service was wonderful. The coffee was amazing. I cannot wait to come back.

My family and I came here after lunch in the area so I cannot speak to their café menu. They seem to have lunch deals but I can’t remember if they are only available during the week. We got 6 different buns because of the buy 5 get 1 free deal. There were also several trays that were buy 1 get 1 free. Pretty standard selection of buns with most costing $ 1.65 each. I thought the taste and structure of the buns were comparable to the Chinese bakeries in the surrounding area, but I didn’t find anything that I would have to come to this specific bakery for.

Ever since Bob’s Noodle left and became two Bobs, we have been interested to see what Bob’s Bakery and Café is about. It’s a bakery first but their food offerings have potential. We didn’t try the bakery part due to the fact that they offer Taiwanese dishes and we can’t turn that down. Between the two of us, we ordered the beef stew with rice, shrimp wonton soup, fried mushroom with garlic & chili powder, and rice cake. The good: beef stew came in bento style, but the flavor was spot on. Rice cake was delicious and was pretty authentic. Fried mushroom were fried similar to how Jumbo Jumbo fry their Taiwanese chicken. Not so good: shrimp wonton soup was a let down, with too much dough, no signs of shrimp, and a flat black(or white) pepper flavored soup. One observation about the food is they don’t overly salt or flavor their dishes; for us that’s wonderful, but for some it may be lack in flavor. I’d definitely recommend giving them a shot. Though they don’t have a lot of tables, they’re not widely known yet and they close at 8pm(bakery hours).

Awesome place to get a hot delicious soup and unique deserts. For soups, highly recommend their beef or seafood versions. For deserts everything is really delicious, but their cheesecake torte is life changing!

Bakery is good! Café is so so. I was kind of disappointed when food comes up after seeing the review from Facebook and Unilocal. The food of taste was plain and it is kind of pricy. However, the server are nice!
