From out of town visiting on business. Met some coworkers here and the food was good. Service was excellent. Very authentic. Great margarita special and good atmosphere. Well worth stopping in to check it out.

Great food made with a few well-prepared and fresh ingredients– I’d go back, and I’d bring my family! For about $ 10 a plate, you’ll probably leave the restaurant with leftovers. They have domestic and imported beers on tap as well as a bar that specializes in mostly tequila-based drinks. No doubt it’s one of the best hidden gem sit-down restaurants in Rockford!

Walked in at 8:00 on wednesday night, get seated after a couple of minutes then forgotten about. We get chips and salsa after ten minutes. Chips were good the salsa was pureed with no chunks of peppers or veggies, also bland. Waiter was servimg tables around us but didn’t acknowledge us. Just getting up to leave when he comes over and takea our drink order-place our food order also as I don’t know if we will ever see him again. Order chimichangas. Run out of beer and wait no waiter-go to he bar to get our own drinks. Food arrives, it was ok but I prefer Dos Realeous over this. Edges of tortilia was burnt. Refried beans had a taste I couldn’t pin down. Will give another chance-just hoping we caught a new waiter

Went there with my family for my birthday. We had a great time. I love that the guacamole is made table side, but she could have added salt. Overall food was amazing i recommend the table top grilled meats they bring to you still grilling. They alsl make the tortillas by hand, which is a rare find in anh mexican restaurant.

Huge portions! Vast menu! They have the usual rice-beans-meat-tortilla-and-cheese combinations that you find at most nice Mexican restaurants. But they have some more unusual options on the menu too, like the chiles relleno and a unique taco salad that are worth trying. Tasty tableside fresh guacamole. The atmosphere is nice too, with some rustic and colorful décor. Plenty of seating for all size groups. Great spot for family outing or dinner with friends!

Ate here last night with a friend for the first time and was very impressed. The tortilla chips were fresh and hot and came with a salsa which, though not at all spicy, had a great flavor and tasted homemade. Both of us had enchiladas. I had the Enchiladas Verde and my friend had the Enchiladas Rojas. Large portions of well seasoned delicious food! I am quite picky about my meat and the chicken in my enchiladas was all excellent quality. The margaritas there are not from a mix but are made there using real juice. The décor could use a little sprucing up but the restaurant was clean and the food more than made up for it!

Just finished eating lunch. This was the first time I had eaten at MC. I have to say I had high hopes, I wanted it to be as good as Habaneros which was in the same space before. What I can say is that it was decent, better than other Rockford area mexican spots, but I wanted it to be unbelievably good and it just wasn’t quite there. I also felt like it was a little pricey but the portions were large. I had 2 tacos and a quesadilla with beans and rice. Upgraded to steak. What I didn’t like was that the menu was pretty large and I just wanted to get a lunch portion but I had to order a combination off the dinner menu. It was 13.50 before tip. The steak was a bit bland and the quesadilla didn’t have the cheese evenly distributed so some of it wasn’t melted and certain bites were all steak or all cheese. They had the right concept with the cilantro and onion but didn’t execute, like it as just made and didn’t get a chance to sit in the citrus and come together. The waiter was n polite enough but I felt a bit rushed a few times. I like that they kept it real with cilantro and onion with a little avocado. I could have used a lime, that might have brightened the flavors up a bit. I wouldn’t have minded a homemade hot sauce option or two other than what came out with the tortilla chips, which were pretty damn good. They also make their own tortillas which shows, they were outstanding. I would give it another shot given the lack of good alternatives in the area for really good mexican food, well at least in my humble opinion. If I could make a suggestion or two they should try to tell a story about what is home made and what isn’t and make recommendations that us gringos might not normally try. I think they could trim down their menu and focus on less items, higher quality food, with smaller portions. As I am writing this I feel a food coma coming on. See you again soon MC!

I like this place. The food is good and flavorful. I’ve had the flautas, chimichanga’s and the taco salad. Everything I’ve tried has been seasoned well and filling. The service is pretty good, everyone is nice and welcoming. We went here on a Wednesday at dinner time and it was a bit busy, we waited about 10mins to be seated. I enjoyed a Nice midweek gathering with friends over dinner here. If your looking for authentic Mexican food, try this place, you won’t be disappointed

Mexican food, man! Thats where its at and Mexico Clasico is where its at! They have fantastic margaritas and I love the one boozy drink thats served in a clay pot of sorts! The guac is fragrant and flavorful. I could eat it with a spoon but I’ll stick with their chips. Shrimp cocktails are delicious as are the tamales and tacos. I have never been disappointed! I come here a lot on Friday’s with my girlfriend and we sit in the bar and just talk and hang out. Servers are attentive and accurate. The ambiance is great and authentic! My only complaint and suggestion to them is to get better chairs/stools in the bar. They are hard to move and to get comfortable in but if thats my only complaint, I think we’re good! Seriously, go here asap! Great birthday place too;)

We came here for the first time after a good recommendation from our neighbor. Let me say that we were surprised. This is a restaurant within a strip mall and looks scary from the outside. It is your typical hole in the wall looking dive. The inside is very eclectic but festive, though dated. The furniture was very unique. The tacos were good but my husband was disappointed they didn’t have the Mexican soup he gets elsewhere. Staff was friendly, food did take a little longer but the place was packed. I didn’t like that they sat us(with a 5 year old) in the bar area. The table next to us was smashed and cursing like sailors. We will come back next time we want a sit down Mexican meal.

Guac Heaven. You actually feel like you’re in one of the travel destinations in Mexico. From the painted chairs, to the servers’ accents, to the Mexican paraphenalia adorning the walls… all that’s needed are sombreros and some pesos. It’s entertaining. Their homemade chips were light, crunchy and probably the best Ive ever had. Yes strong statement but true. Topped with a table side guacamole preparation. Just this is worth paying a visit if your in this neck of the woods. Their tacos were authentic with their cilantro and onion mix on the carne. The meat was seasoned just right. Their rice and beans were standard. Pricing was fair. This place destroys all the dive Mexican joints I’ve been to in the Pilsen and Bucktown stops. I wish they’d open one in Chi-town.

Pretty solid restaurant with standard Mexican fare. Never had a bad dish here, and some of the enchilada sauces are dang tasty. Good chile rellenos, enchilladas, and tacos. So far my favorite Mexican restaurant in Rockford.

We had a group of 6 and had great service. The server was very friendly and funny. I ordered the fajita burrito and it was pretty good. I felt it was kind of bland and had to add lots of hot sauce. The chips and salsa was very good and flavorful and the premium at he table guacamole was fantastic. I would return and order a more authentic dish if I went next time. The house margarita was definitely worth going back for.

This is our new favorite Rockford Mexican Restaurant! We have been here several times and have verbally recommended it to many people. MC makes all of their tortillas in house, fresh daily, which really shows in their dishes. Their menu is large, but not overwhelming and we always try to order new things… although our favorites are the tacos de asada and their fajita suiza. Each time that we have had shrimp at MC they have been perfectly cooked to just done and very tender. Their margaritas are fresh and fabulous! One of their specialty drinks is something with grapefruit soda and a salty chili powdered rim served in a terra cotta cup which is FABULOUS! They even shared the recipe with me and we have made these drinks at home for guests. This is a very large restaurant and while we have eaten there several times we have never seen it filled to capacity but I have heard from friends that they did a fabulous job of accommodating their large parties. Some of the chairs are not very comfortable, but the freshly made tableside guacamole, their amazing salsa, the delicious food and outstanding service more than makes up for it. The owner is almost always a presence there and has spoken with us on numerous occasions. A few of the servers recognize us and great us with welcoming smiles when we walk in the door. Arturo usually«takes us» as he was our favorite server at a different Mexican Restaurant in Rockford a few years ago. He greets us at the door the minute we walk in with hand shakes and always thanks us for the business The Mexican folks that I know in town eat here… so how bad can it be??? We love Mexico Classico… would recommend it to everyone and will go there many times to come!

Our dinner started off with amazing guacamole– so fresh, I only wish they would serve more! I ordered a vegetarian burrito and was looking forward to it being spiced up by the cheese sauce. My entrée not only arrived sans cheese sauce but without the beans as promised. My meal was not the only one served incorrectly and that was very frustrating. I basically ended up making the burrito myself after they gave me a side of the cheese sauce. On a positive note, the margaritas were delicious!

Service: pretty good Atmosphere: loud, bright & less than desireable. Uncomfortable wooden chairs that hurt my back. Live singer on a sat night but stopped our conversation for most of the duration we were there. Food: Average. The guacamole was made table side and good. The fish tacos were good. The vegetarian fajitas were not good. The vegetables were so overcooked that they had no spark of life left in them. They were also not seasoned. Very disappointed. My husband did not like his shrimp fajitas. Cost: above average for Mexican food. 4 drinks, 1app &3 main courses was just under $ 80. Would I return? No. I’d prefer to go to a more authentic Mexican restaurant.

It lives up to its name — classic Mexican food. This was so close to traditional that I almost cried. I’ve been to Mexico numerous times,(not in tourist areas) and their food and atmosphere took me back. I hesitantly ordered fish tacos — not a fan of tilapia — and enjoyed them. The fish was fried and seasoned nicely. Their service was very good, though the food took quite a while to come out. Their refried beans were a little too bland — super creamy like there was a lot of the fat in them. Also, the atmosphere feels incomplete, thus 3 stars. I think if they put plants in the fountain and arranged the tables around it there would be a more inviting feel to the dining area. Table cloths or even butcher paper too. The tortillas were fantastic and the margarita was — ay, ay, ya, ya!
