When we heard that Arthur Treacher’s Fish & Chips were coming back to Rochester, I had that Indian tear thing happening like that old commercial about litter… Then it finally opened and we had our first fish fry and boy it was just like the days of old… The hush puppies, the coleslaw, french fries and an awesome fish filet… All at a great price, the two of us ate for around $ 18.00 and in fact we had left overs to boot… BUT the next time we went there about two months later it was a totally different experience… The fish was previously frozen or at least it tasted like it was and the fries were of a different cut as well… I almost believe it was a issue of bait and switch… They got us in there the first time and served terrific fast food fish fry, but then they switched gears and served us a frozen nightmare… We’re very disappointed in this because we longed for the return of a Rochester classic from the 70’s, but alas it just turned out to be yet another fast food experience that can be found anywhere…

It was good back in its heyday, But not today. Disappointing to say the least. Service was slow, Quality of the product was not like I remembered it. Great effort, great nostalgia factor, thanks for walk down memory lane.

My wife and I stopped off at the webster location(not listed in Unilocal yet) on North ave. it was a spur of the moment decision. Really wished it was a standalone place but it was part of the Salvatore’s pizza. The two ladies working the counter were more engrossed in the pizza side of the business the ATF& C, but no biggie. Food was good but the place needed a good cleaning with many tables still with residual food items remaining. Very glad the franchise is back in our area.

My husband wanted to come here, as a throw back to his childhood lol, and also bring his(elder) parents some takeout to reminisce. So off we went. Apparently the reopening of this franchise in the area is a big deal to some. As an aside, this operates in a Salvatore’s Pizza, so for better or worse, that option is available, should you choose ;) We went late afternoon on a weekday, and business was brisk, many«seniors» in there, wanting to get their fish fry on. We, both being on the other side of 40, were the youngest patrons by a few decades. The young lady at the counter steered us to the most affordable way to get a meal for 6, which was most kind, saving us 30 bucks. She was very friendly and nice… In the meantime, she was contending with a few rude customers, so props to her. Honestly I didn’t think the fish fry was great… nor the sides. Pretty greasy and soggy. To be fair, we did do takeout, which meant a 10 min car ride, which did fried foods no favor, of course. It may have tasted better«on site», maybe? The way it was packaged, in standard foam takeout containers, meant the steam sogged everything up. My in laws seemed to like it well enough, however, I kind of doubt it will be on our regular rotation. If I am going to clog my arteries, there are more delicious ways IMO. But, as I said, many seem excited about this place opening…
