I went to this location when they first opened a couple years ago and it was not good at all. I’m from Dallas and I would eat at Matts in Dallas monthly. My husband and I just moved to Roanoke and were super excited they were opening one close by. However, we were quickly disappointed with how nasty the food was. I’m talking inedible! Fast forward 1 year later and decided to give this location another shot. I came on a Saturday afternoon expecting it to be packed but there were open tables everywhere. I couldn’t believe how large the restaurant was! We were quickly seated and ordered the queso and taco al carbon. And… wow! Everything was so flavorful and good! It reminded me of Dallas! So happy they were able to fix their kinks at this restaurant! We will definitely be back! Why just 4 stars? Bc I only had 2 dishes. Will be back for more and when we’ve tried enough and if it’s good, I’ll give the extra bump to 5 stars

We have never been here before. It was awesome! Great atmosphere and food. The enchilada’s and catfish was amazing.

We’ve been going to Matt’s in Dallas for years, so were happy to see this location open in Roanoke. Can’t beat the Bob Armstrong dip. Had combo fajitas as well, which were good. Service was prompt and attentive, and our kids all liked their meals. We’ll be back.

Pretty good happy hour, the house margarita was solid and carafe of wine for price of glass was great. Yummy appetizers, good service. The stuffed jalapenos were just ok, the Bob Armstrong dip was real good. The garlic tilapia with veggies and charro beans was excellent! Yummy chips and salsa! We will be back for sure.

Why do you idiots keep giving it 3 and 4 stars and then explain how much you love it? Give it 5 stars, dammit! This place is the bomb! And I love that they include on their menu what they can prepare gluten free. Thanks for existing, Matt’s, you rock!

This food tasted like I was in Mexico! The chile relleno was delicious! Plus the skinny margarita and house margarita were better than most places we’ve been to(which is a lot of places!). Definitely will be back.

5+ stars! Our waiter was Zach and was nothing but great! Never had an empty glass or a empty bowl of chips or salsa. The main course came out quickly and hot. We highly recommend Matts!

Queso was plain and loose, salsa wasn’t very good, all food seems to be baked on plate in oven, nothing special at all, there are much better places around. Also more expensive for less food. Would not return

Above average texy-mex. Their beef Chile Relleno is BYFAR the best in Town(Blue Goose = 2nd). A number of specialty items like chicken-fried steak, vegetarian and seafood dishes and the classic Bob Armstrong dip set this place apart. They pay attention to ingredients and presentation. Definitely one of my go-to faves!

What a find! Took guests from New England here despite the fact that they didn’t care for Tex Mex and everyone was delighted! Delicious, freshly prepared food with a wide variety of excellent sauces and dressings. Many gluten free options, too. Fernando gave us excellent and informative service. I love that this is a family-owned business and will definitely return again and again until I’ve tasted everything that looks good on the menu.

Nice Lunch Option In Roanoke. It’s a unanimous favorite among lunch colleagues and family. The Chips are good and crisp and don’t break too easily and the Salsa is Smoky with a little Spice. We also tried the Bob Armstrong Dip, which is their specialty Queso with Seasoned Ground Beef and scope of both Sour Cream and Guacamole, that was very good. I’ve had the Po Boy Bowl, which is akin to the Burrito Bowl served by Burrito Chains, less the Lettuce. It was rich and full of flavor and, when eaten with Chips, was a very filling lunch. I’ve had both Ground Beef and Chicken and prefer the Chicken. The Chili Relleno is also a family favorite with Raisins and Pecans adding to a unique flavor. Again, I’ve had both Beef and Chicken and really like the flavor and tenderness of the Chicken. Always a good choice when we’re in the mood for Tex-Mex!

The food is excellent. One of my all time favorite salsas. The service is spot on. The rice is fluffy and well seasoned. The refried beans are flavorful and have a good consistency.

Thinking of moving to Roanoke soon so we decided to eat at a local establishment. The atmosphere was alright, service could have been better but the food was little old Mexico. We had the flatus which were good. Would consider going back

Margarita was good, salsa and chips good, food … ok. but not hot. …waitress…well. horrible… Once we had our food, she never cane back, we had to ask someone else to being a doggie bag.. So we could get the food at the temp we like. Sad, I really wanted to like it!

Wow. We were dis’ed across the street at Babes And walked over here. Wow. Very nice change I had the Jalapeño Margarita. Another Wow It was a refreshing tasty margarita with a spicy flavor. Best I’ve had in a long time. Chips and salsa were good. Salsa was spicier than wife liked but it was great for me. We just had beef nachos today and they were Fabulous. This place is on my return list. Great job Missy as our server. Very friendly and professional.

We had lunch here during the week a few weeks back and had a good experience. We had previously eaten at their location in Austin and I just wasn’t impressed with the food. I’m glad we gave this location a try though because it was definitely a better experience =) I waited so long to review them that I can’t remember anything specific about our food, but my husband and I split the mixed fajitas and really liked them. There was plenty of food for the two of us to share. I believe the fajitas came as a meal with rice and beans. The restaurant itself is nice. Very big and open. Our waiter was nice enough. We ended up talking to the manager about their location in Austin and the story behind how they ended up in the DFW area. He was very friendly. Our bill was about what we expected — again, I can’t remember specifically what we paid, but it wasn’t anything shocking. I’d remember that, lol.

I feel like I am in the minority here, but I really liked Matt’s. It is my favorite place to bring a larger group, because it is good middle of the road Tex-Mex that anyone can enjoy. The food is on the mild side, which is my jam. I love pretty much everything that is made with their shredded chicken. My favorite thing is their chips and salsa. The chips are light and crispy, and made in house. The salsa is spicy without being hot, and I prefer their smooth salsa compared to a chunky one. My only real complaint is their ice tea, very watered down. The service is okay. It’s not the fastest service, but it is the friendliest. The price is good, and we always leave full with a carton of leftovers. The restaurant is clean, and I love their oversized chairs. The parking can be tricky in downtown Roanoke, given the close proximity to Babe’s Chicken.

We stopped in for lunch after 1pm on a Friday afternoon. There is a lot of seating available and not a lot of occupants. The food was good but not great. I got the lunch Taco Salad and it was good. It was not full of water as the other review had mentioned. The presentation was nice, they had jalapeños and diced tomatoes on the side making it look like a lot of food. One review commented on the way they dumped jalapeños on the side, but it is all in perspective. The chips and salsa were yummy. I like warm chips and these were big. Salsa was not spicy but hit the spot. Good for all my gringo mouth friends. Hubby said he would come back even though the rice was not vary flavorful. The service was slow and it seemed the waitress was waiting both sides, bar area and dinning, so she spent a lot of time traveling and less time waiting. I liked the atmosphere, loud peppy Tejano music and I also like the décor. Lunch was inexpensive and worth my time.

I know this may pass as decent food in these parts but it was pretty sad. Chile relleno topped with velveeta and pickled jalapeño on the side. Great, if I’d wanted nachos I would have ordered that junk. Also topped with raisins and pecans in some weird attempt to be like a chile en nogada. Yeah… Not even close. Cheap and huge portions. If that is what you are after Matt’s is your place…

Well TOTALY Different and TOTALY over the top. If the food where any fresher it would still be in the field. Shanie is who you need to ask for as a server. GREATSERVICE!!! The Tacos al carbon made with beef tenderloin are out-of-this-world. The Unique Chili Relleno had tons of chicken and is topped with pecans and raisins, delicious to be sure.
