Seriously — the best! Inexpensive — staff was so friendly. Accidentally stumbled upon Nelly Bly’s by accident — so glad I did. HUGE servings of Bassett’s ice cream — value can’t be beat when compared to other ice cream shops. Can’t wait to bring my daughter here for a skookie!

Very neat place, off the beaten path and I love the old classic feel of the inside. The staff is very nice and they make you feel like you are number 1. This is a great place for kids or just for doing something different on a date. A+

Awesome old time ice cream place that feels straight out of a vacation destination. Huge servings, I mean HUGE. Split the sundae’s, they’re massive. Bassets ice cream at it’s finest. Most definitely will be back. I highly recommend«the scookie», it’s a skillet cookie that is made to order with ice cream and toppings on top.

Ok… the ice cream is great, but so are a few other local places. Wife and I got one 2-scoop cone, and 11-scoop cup of ice cream that set us back $ 8. A bit much.

we stopped by here last weekend to get some dessert. I didn’t realize that the place is under new ownership now. It still as the same vintage feel, but they’ve upgraded to Basset ice cream and now takes credit cards(a huge convenience for us). I’m glad to see that they kept my personal fav, the Skookie, on the menu(ice cream served on a freshly made giant skillet cookie). My friend tried and really liked their new ice cream pocket, which is ice cream sandwiched between an L & M glazed donut. i’m glad that we have a mom and pop option still around the neighborhood.

New owners have upgraded everything from the ice cream to the décor. Great for a dessert, or rent the place out for an event. Michelle and Tawnie really helped make our recent birthday party a big success.

I love Nelly Bly’s! They are close to the train station, have a great selection of flavors and Sundaes and have great specials. The staff has always been helpful and agreeable. Sure they don’t take credit cards, but if you’ve been there more than once you are aware of that fact. If you have little kids, it is a fantastic place for a birthday party and very affordable! For that reason alone Nelly Bly’s gets its 5 stars. Plus, during the off season, they’ll open up and have special parties near the holidays. My kids love seeing Easter Bunny there, making heart shaped cookies for valentine’s day and having a chance to get a picture with Santa.

We are locals, and we love this place. Lots of good basic classic ice cream choices, waterice, and shakes. And the shakes… awesome malted shakes… Old time feel, calm décor, fun vintage throwback without being cheap plastic. Did I mention the shakes? I’m on a low-carb sugar free kick, I really enjoy that they have true sugar free ice cream.(at least one flavor.). Its a treat! Eat in, or our favorite is to walk a few blocks down old victorian streets down to the river and watch the sunset or boat races, — its almost too perfect and classic and sadly often lost Americana in a nice quiet town. Parking is free at the town lot across the street, or on the street if you can score it. They are cash only, — ok, its a hassle, but frankly it adds to the old time feel. $ 5 gets you 3NICESIZED scoops in a cone. No soft serve here, just dreamy big scoops. Kiddy tables, classic wooden stools on a marble bar. its pretty awesome.

Great ice cream parlor. Delicious ice cream. The Victorian themed room and décor makes it a really nice place to bring the family. I believe they host children’s birthday parties here as well, which would be adorable for young kids. The last time we were here, it was a cash only policy.

This is our ‘go to’ ice cream parlor. The Skookie is absolutely to die for. Its a large baked(on a skillet) chocolate chip cookie with ice cream on top with a big old mountain of whipped cream. The hot cookie melts the ice cream and really is a great sweet combo. Nice décor and the owner is very nice.

Nelly Bly’s is in a great location. That’s the single best aspect of this place. I think the place is nice inside. Of course they inconveniently don’t take credit cards(like it’s not 2010). The service was terrible. A pair of friends and I waited ten minutes to even be acknowledged at the bar. We all ordered milkshakes. The worker actually cried about them being the hardest thing to make and he really didn’t want to do it. I am not lying. Really dude? So we all ordered milkshakes. I had a cookies and cream. It was 4.79, and it was weak. Predominantly milk, and i could barely taste the cookies. I finished it within minutes instead of actually enjoying it.

This is a review by a lacto-ovo vegetarian Milkshake. Taken by itself literally this word is not too appealing. When defined by the experience at nelly bly’s it’s downright attractive. Nelly Bly’s is an old fashioned ice cream parlor manned by teenagers and primarily for families. They manage the crowd well and serve up all the classics like sundaes, bannana splits, milkshakes, malts, and cones. They make waffles right there and the place is redolent with the smell of freshly ironed carbs. A milkshake is 3 scoops of ice cream, milk, and a shot of syrup. There is a more expensive version that adds a «topping» like oreo pieces. They have suggestions but easily handled my custom job: 2 scoops vanilla peanut butter, 1 scoop banana, shot of chocolate syrup. On a different night I tweaked it: 1 scoops vanilla peanut butter, 2 scoop banana, shot of chocolate syrup. yes, I was trying for a chunky monkey milkshake. The later worked better. Eat dinner where you like on 130 but save room for dessert and come here.
