I would call the décor of the salon«industrial,» but I’m not sure that was the decorator’s intent. In either case, the ambiance is cold and haphazard. It almost seems unfinished in a way. I’ve visited a handful of times, and each time there was either a group of girls behind the reception desk, or no one at all. On my first or second visit, one of the girls(or all?) smelled strongly of alcohol — this was before noon. It doesn’t seem as if there is a dedicated receptionist, but I can’t be sure about this. I do know that some of the girls I’ve seen behind the desk are stylists as well. Therefore, all interactions have been relatively unprofessional. What I mean by this is that I wasn’t greeted warmly(or sometimes at all) upon entering the salon. When I mentioned to the person acting as receptionist who I was there to see, I would get a pointed finger in the direction of my stylist as a response. I have only seen Jacki, so this does not apply to the other stylists that work at this location. My first impression of Jacki was that she seemed busy and distracted. Her granddaughter is often at the salon with her(unsupervised but for Jacki), and though Jacki handles this well, I can’t imagine she can give her clients the attention they deserve when she is also responsible for a young child. In the same vein, Jacki often services 2 – 3 clients at a time, which feels a little awkward. For instance, on almost every visit I’ve had my color on for 1 hour+ before Jacki got around to washing my hair. She also took the approach of coloring my ends every other visit, and«pulling the color through» on alternate visits. I put that in quotes because she doesn’t do it correctly. After the color has been sitting on my roots for over an hour, she takes me to the shampoo station and pulls the color through briefly just before washing. I’m assuming that because of this technique, I ended up with darker hair on top than on the bottom(I know what you’re thinking, but it looked nothing like an ombré, trust me). I went back to have her fix it twice, and it was never fully fixed. I also started to realize that I was the youngest client I’d ever seen in her chair. My very last visit with her(the proverbial straw), I also realized that she used the same color on myself and another(much older) client. I was wondering why my color reminded me so much of a Golden Girls character, and I had an epiphany that very day. I think she uses the same color for many of her clients. It’s this ghastly red color that I’m sure works well among the retirees in Palm Beach, but not so much in Los Angeles. Also, as if to add insult to injury, during every visit, Jacki would wax on and on about how great a stylist she is. In fact, at my very first appointment she criticized my cut(according to my taste, the best cut I’ve ever had), saying that it wasn’t actually a style, and not a good cut. She proceeded to cut my hair to resemble Jennifer Aniston circa 1995. Technically, it was a great cut, but I’ve never felt so frumpy and old. I couldn’t make it look cool if I tried. I was stuck with a decades old style whether I liked it or not. She also swears she knows trends better than I do, even though she was born well before the Kennedy administration. During one visit, she blow dried my hair so big and poofy, I thought she had the misconception that I was heading to an 80’s costume party after my appointment. She told me that the 80’s are making a comeback(which is true, but that particular hairstyle will never be resurrected). My only regret is that I didn’t get any photos. So, please take my advice, and unless you are a septuagenarian, find another stylist. Jacki is well past her prime, and doesn’t seem interested in refreshing her skills. I finally gave up and found another stylist who was forced to make my color darker than it had been to cover Jacki’s gaffe. The new stylist is great, and about half the price(Jacki’s prices are so inflated, it’s ridiculous — this is Riverside, not Beverly Hills).

–First Time Customer –No Apt –Men’s haircut I called in, I asked do you have time for a walk in men’s haircut, my son has long hair. «Yes! Come in we will take you right away» I come in the receptionist greets us, walks us to a chair in the far back of this empty place. She begins to ask how he wants his hair & prepared herself to do the cut. I immediately asked«Who’s cutting his hair, are you cutting the hair or is someone else?»(reason: She looked extremely young, she was the receptionist, & she looked nervous). Immediately the other stylist I guess Manager or whatever. Appears from behind me & asks if there’s a problem with her doing his hair. She interrupted us, came out of no where as if watching me from afar, & had a firm tone. She really threw me & my son off, I was surprised & so I said«No, that’s fine» & allowed THEM to carry on as I watched from another chair. THEY were now going to do the cut together. «Rude One» was now watching, directing, & showing the receptionist what to do with the clippers. they began to fade his head, & clean the sides. My now scared son asks how long this teaching session would take, cause he & I saw they were off to a very slow start. She tells us abt thirty minutes. And asks«Why?» we let her know it was 2:30 we have to go home still cause he works at 4. She said«don’t worry we will be done before then.» Again this is Rude doing all the talking. Due to her rudeness I just asked her to just end the cut here, I don’t feel comfortable with this whole situation at all. She did insist they finish. And added«This is not a popular cut, I have to guide her through it.» We did not want them to finish at this point I asked her to charge me for the 5 min cut they did(Practically nothing) and she tells me «Ok! Its going to be 25.00» AREYOUKIDDINGME!!! I said«You barely cut anything!» she responds«Its still a cut» I shouldn’t have paid. I did and I left They wanted to school this young lady using us. For $ 25 I was not abt to let them ruin his hair more. The customer service here form her very first word was unprofessional, not welcoming, and very rude. I will never be coming back here again. Watching the other stylist I can tell they were at a Super cuts level, not very experienced in their foil application. I go to Perfect Cuts in Temecula go there!

After my aunt retired from cutting hair my sister recommended me to go here and see Tim. He has been cutting my hair for almost two years now and it does not disappoint me. I am picky with how I have my hair cut and I have not had any complaints at all about it. I also have a peek-a-boo hair streak that I have him color and he does not damage it! I even let him experiment on with different colors on my hair and it looks good everytime. Thanks Tim, I highly recommend him!

Go here. Ask for Ashley Mac. I do not«speak» hair, but she understands my gibberish and I always leave looking awesome. I have never been disappointed. She is current and knows all the new trends. You will leave the salon feeling so beautiful.

There is only one person I truly trust with my hair, which both my family and I have been doing for years, and that is Tim Picard. He has now been a stylist at Studio 4 for a couple years and I will drive an hour to have him cut my hair. Recently he fixed a decidedly bi-polar hair cut from someone else and gave me the exact look my boyfriend had been saying would look great on me, though I’d never had short hair before. Everyone loves my haircut, including me, and I was always afraid to go short. He also did all the hair for my wedding when he was only 18. Tim has also highlighted my hair and styled it for photo sessions. I would recommend him to anyone, and would assume that his colleagues are probably close to being as talented. Check it out for yourself!

Ashley Mac is the best! She is the only one I’ll let cut and color my hair. Not only was she sweet, professional, and knowledgable about which products to use and hair care in general, but she really listens to what you want and does an amazing job! Plus the salon was super clean! I never started getting as many complements on my hair than after I started coming to see Ashley. If I am willing to drive all the way from Ventura County to see her, that’s saying something.

I called to see if they could squeeze me in for a touch up on my roots for highlights. The lady that answered said yes it’s about $ 80 for a half weave. That’s a little more than I wanted to pay but I went anyways because It was much needed. I got there and they took me back right away and the lady asked what I wanted so I told her a half weave to just touch up my roots and a little trim not much because I’m trying to grow my hair back out.(My hair is shoulder length). She was like ok that’s $ 150 for that. And she saw the look my my face and asked«is that to much»? I said«yea they said $ 80 when I called. She said«yea that just for a half weave». So I said ok just the color. As I sat there she did what she wanted. I still have root after telling her I like my weave tight and all they way to my scalp. And it was deffenitly not a half weave either. She went up diagonal from my ears and did what shows. I was SO unhappy and after it was all done she said u have a lot of hair so it’s 110 instead. So at that point I had to pay so I did. I have never paid that much for a half ass job. And really 150 for color and a trim. That’s a little outrageous. Every place I have been to the cut comes free when u get color. So enough said they r OVER priced and only do a half ass job. DONOT waste ur MONEY!!! Go to Knock out hair Solon if u want to go anywhere that’s where I usually go but they were booked for the day and I needed it done because I was leaving town.

I’m not sure its the best salon, but definitely not the worst. I think its a bit on the expensive side for what the salon looks like. The hair stylist rent on their own booth. Kind of like a higher up super-cut type salon. Might be get something better somewhere else IMO.

As far as I can tell, this place is like a fancy SuperCuts. Booth rental-type salon where the quality is probably hit or miss. Sadly, for us, it was a miss. I took my boyfriend here for a cut after calling to make an appointment with«any stylist who works really well with curly hair.» His stylist arrived just after we did(forgivable), got herself set up, and then talked to him about what kind of cut he wanted. I must admit, I was pretty confident as she went through the consultation… She looked at the pics I’d brought along, seemed to know what she was talking about, and assured us that she was great with curly hair. As she got started, my boyfriend and I started to take in more and more of the surroundings, and neither of us were impressed by the sheer lack of professionalism. We listened to these girls gossip and chat as if we weren’t there, and the stylist across from us spent the whole time sitting in her chair texting. Don’t get me wrong, I think a salon should have a fun, casual vibe, but this was really disappointing. The only thing more disappointing was how awful the haircut turned out followed by the fact that that particular stylist only accepted cash(which was not mentioned until *after* the haircut).

I adore Studio 4! So, I live in DC now but every time I come home to visit my family it’s straight to Studio 4 for me. I can’t even commit to a salon in the DC area because none compare to this place! Recently, I had my hair cut, highlighted and colored($ 135). they really listen to you and are knowledgeable about what would look good on any given person. I would recommend Jennifer. I’ve been to several people but she did the best job while holding a friendly conversation. Oh, and if you plan on paying by credit, make sure to mention that when you make your appointment. Only some of the stylists take credit cards(Jennifer does). GO! Seriously… Update: Jennifer moved to another salon on Van Buren.

when i get compliments on my hair i frequently get strange looks/responses when i tell my friends where i get my hair done… you go to california to get your hair done??? *insert strange look* you know that there are plenty of great stylists here in seattle right? why yes… yes i do :) i have known krislyn and have been getting my hair done by her for a long time now and frankly i can’t go anywhere or to anyone else! i’ve tried… believe me i’ve tried… but it’s just never quite right. how many of you can say that you can go to your hair stylist, sit in the chair and let her do her magic? I CAN! :) this salon is always neat and clean when i go here and busy all throughout the day. they take walk-ins and appointments if you call ahead. i suggest you giving it a try if you are looking for a salon and please say hi to krislyn for me if you stop by!
