I LOVETHISPLACE. I moved to the area 5 years ago and can’t believe I’ve never been here. Templo has the best salsa I’ve had and their service is second to none. It’s a nice little hole in the wall and reminds me of the Mexican food that i grew up with. Definitely stop in, their Chicken Tostada and Fried Burrito Aguilar are great!

This clean, little hidden establishment serves amazing Mexican food reminiscent of mi Abuela’s cooking. Must trys: 1. Chocolate a la Mexicana 2. Horchata(not the pre-mixed crap) 3. Buñuelos 4. Quesadilla de Camaron My son also wanted to mention that their cheeseburgers and fries are really tasty as well. Bring a sweater during the cold winter months of the year as the ambient temperature of the restaurant can be a little cold. All the more reason to try a cup of Chocolate a la Mexicana.

My husband was born and raise in Riverside and he grew up on this place, so no surprise when he brought me out to California 9 years ago to meet his family that this is where we were a lot. I think we came here every day. Over the years when ever We’ve been back to visit, this is a first stop. Now we live close enough to enjoy the awesome food. Love the Burritos and the owner is such a sweet lady. Love this place!!!

Was looking for some good Mexican food close to the 215, checked Unilocal, and ended up here. I’m really glad we did. I was VERY happy to see that Joe Aguilar’s does breakfast all day, so I ordered chorizo con huevos which was very tasty, along with a cheese quesadilla. The food was well prepared and super fresh. I was driving back to San Diego, otherwise I would have tried one of their bloody marys. Definitely worth a visit.

We have come here many times since discovering this jewel of a place! Simply great food! Try the chili verde, but regardless, anything you order here will be great! The environment is simple, lots of natural light, not too noisy, the staff is attentive. This place has become a family and date favorite!

Unfortunately the food was great but when I got my Check I noticed a roach on the wall. It’s very dim inside. I wonder if it’s on purpose. I have overheard one of the other guests complain there was a roach on the table. I felt so disgusted. I’m not sure if this is a usual thing for them. They are obviously infested. The service was pretty good. They’re attentive. But roaches at that level?! What the heck? It’s pretty disturbing.

The mexican place is one of the best hidden gems in Riverside. If you don’t know what you’re looking for you’ll drive past what looks like a remodeled house on University that a very nice and loving family turned into a restaurant. It looks like that because that’s exactly what it is! They have cheap but good beer and happy hour specials, really good pork and carne asada dishes, and very spicy salsa so be careful how much you eat! The only reason for four stars instead of five is that it’s difficult to find healthy options here. Joe Aguilar’s is a place you go to feel really full with friends and family, and have excellent and incredibly delicious mexican food whose recipes have been carefully crafted for decades. This is NOT a place to come to if you want to watch your waistline. I treat it more like a treat than a daily diner, and that suits me just fine. Try the Aguilar burrito if you don’t know what to order, because I did the first time and it’s kept me and everyone I’ve brought here always coming back for more!

I like this place for their deep fried Aguilar burrito. Stumbled upon this place on my journey to try all the Mexican places around UCR, I’ve hit around 14 so far. This place is close to campus, And for all 3 years I have been here so far, I never stopped by here, but Im glad I did. I’ve tried a few burritos, my favorite so far is the Aguilar burrito, consisting of a deep fried burrito filled with tender chunks of pork And filled with cheesy goodness And whatever else you find in a burrito. It’s also covered in a nice warm Chile Verde sauce. There’s like no kick to it in terms of spicyness, so in that sense it may not be that exciting. However, their salsa for their tortilla chips has a nice kick, so you can drench your burrito in that. Service may be pretty slow sometimes, especially on tuesdays. When i go at opening time on fridays, service is great, but when they are busy, it may take quite a while for your food or the check to come out, however, the staff is still friendly. Overall, i will definitely be back when i crave a nice deep fried burrito for 6 dollars. I kinda want one right now, too bad they arn’t open at 1 a.m.

I cannot believe I have lived in Riverside for a year and just barely came here. All I can think about is all the wasted time. This place is amazing! Their Aguilar burrito was so good and it came out piping hot! This is my new go to place for Mexican food. I can’t wait to go back and try the deep-fried ice cream!

Great restaurant. Staff are nice and friendly and they’re all female(probably why food is good ;)) They have daily specials which are good. Place is clean but could use some remodeling. The chips and salsa are on the house and the salsa is just too delicious

Holy cow!!! This place is inexpensive and sooooooo wonderful. I really like the food and atmosphere. I had the pork and nopalitos(cactus) burrito with cheese and they were big chunks of tender pork and Nopales… And they fried my burrito for me! Instead of red sauce, I asked for the green sauce over my burrito because my friend said it was really bomb there. How right he was. Mmmmm. Must go.

Came here for lunch with my boyfriend and we were immediately seated. There’s chips and dip on the house. We ordered the carne asada burrito, carne asada and lengua tacos. Some of the tacos DO come with guacamole whereas others DONOT. So for those who aren’t familiar with it, you can ask the server and she’ll let you know since guacamole and sour cream cost extra on the side. The carne asada burrito was refreshing, but my boyfriend thought that it was just okay until you reached the end of it, since that’s where all the good juices are. As for my tacos, I really enjoyed my carne asada taco. The sour cream that they have is most likely homemade — none of that store processed sour cream. As for the lengua taco, I was a little bit disappointed. The meat were in big chunks, compared to the ones that I had at King Taco in LA. Not only that, but it was pretty dry — so the guacamole and sour cream saved it. But other than that, I had a good meal here — it really depends on which type of taco is right up your alley. The service pace isn’t quick, but it’s tolerable, considering that there was only one server working.
