I was in Riverhead for work and went here for an early dinner after court. This restaurant came highly recommended by the bar tender at the Hilton Garden Inn. So I showed up here and was greeted by the owner who seemed to appreciate my fascination with the massive bison head mounted next to the bar. We then had a conversation related to the end that this bison met at the hands of Theodore Roosevelt. So I drank some beer and then had the Tweed’s Burger(bison). The burger was really good, cooked properly to medium rare. My buddy ordered the steak and reported that it was delicious. My only regret is that I had only one meal at Tweed’s. On my next trip to Long Island, I will be back.

UPDATE: May 11, 2016 … Yet again, I decided to give Tweeds another try. It was horrible. I am so annoyed by the experience, I don’t even have the energy to write all the details, but read my review from 6 years ago(yes, 6 years ago) and it was virtually the same problems: rotten black lettuce, dirty waiter, owner and chef screaming at staff, cold and bland food.

Whenever we are out on eastern Long Island we try to make a stop at Tweeds. One of my favorite restaurants. The service/staff is welcoming and friendly. They are known for their buffalo burgers and rightfully so — this burger doesn’t need any fixings, no cheese, nothing — on its own its delicious and huge! I often have a mussel or clam appetizer which is always well cooked and delicious. The menu is simple and I always leave pleased.

Went here for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. I remember coming a few years ago with the girls for a lunch date but honestly, I don’t remember it wowing me the way it did today. The bison kabobs — must have. I didn’t think they would be so tender(please keep in mind that I have previously never had bison). Additionally, we had the burger(which was cooked to perfection), and comes with the perfect amount of cheese, and the duck wrap which was the only slightly disappointing piece of the meal. The flavor was more soy sauce ish than Wasabi ish which the waitress had mentioned was in the wrap, I honestly didn’t taste the Wasabi at all which was the reason for my disappointment. However I am unlike the rest, I tend to like very spicy food so take that for what it is. All and all, decent food, reasonably priced for lunch. will return to try dinner.

Tweed’s is an old school restaurant in an old(but recently renovated) hotel. It’s not a very large restaurant, but the walls are decorated with decades old newspaper clippings and other historical memorabilia, along with a gigantic buffalo bust. The menu features bison(buffalo) meat, from the restaurant’s very own bison farm. It’s a pretty short menu, but it does have some non-bison options like chicken or salmon. I tried the bison burger, bison reuben, and bison chili. They were plated well. They were all pretty good, and noticeably leaner than their beef versions. I would suggest keeping the add ons to the burger to a minimum, to keep from overpowering the bison flavor. The bison chili was more like nachos. The large amount of cheese masked the bison flavor. I liked the reuben best, as the sauerkraut kept the flavors balanced. It was good, but I find it a bit overpriced for the underwhelming difference in flavor between beef and bison.

What a terrible experience. I had a 6pm reservation and walked in to an empty dark restaurant and was told I could only sit outside. Their outside seating is right next to the dumpster and made us feel like animals. We walked out. Save your money and time and go somewhere else in Riverhead

We have been a long time customer of Tweeds and we went there for St Patrick’s Day traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner with another couple. To our surprise the meat was fatty and the cabbage was under cooked. We gave the place another shot during price fixe week and my wife said her salmon dinner was tasteless and my prime rib was a bit tough. The gentleman of the other couple also said his prime rib was also a bit tough. I had a phone conversation with the owner and he blew me off. I’m my opinion that’s no way to treat four long time customers.

The food is fantastic. You can order anything on the menu and it’s going to taste amazing. The lobster ravioli and bison burger with their delicious fries are my favorite. They have a really nice wine selection too. Beautiful atmosphere and great staff.

Bison Burger for lunch was very good as were the Peconic scallops when they are in season. It’s in Riverhead so the parking on the street is hit or miss and the big parking lot in the back is just that a big parking lot. It’s been here for a long time so they must be doing something right. BTW you can pass by their Bison farm on Roanoke it’s really an interesting site.

Bison burgers — amazing, huge and very filling. Very very filling. I typically finish my wife’s food when we go out, we both ordered our own bison. She left half, I ate mine, but I was unable to eat the fries. Literally left them untouched because the burger was so filling and delicious.

Great place for French onion soup and American fare. We had a really nice night here. Very cozy & dim lit restaurant, which I love in the winter. Food was very good and so was the service.

Went here for Dinner and ordered the Buffalo Ribeye steak. Was given regular Ribeye steak. Was hungry and it tasted good so I just ate it. So much for having Buffalo.

I came in here around 5pm and they still had the lunch menu going. I ordered a steak medium and b/c it was still the lunch menu I had to get fries… The fries were actually potato wedges which was not that good. But the steak was ok, I would say this was a one and done stop for me.

We got the oysters and the bison burger– completely surprised on taste. Can’t believe this burger knocked my socks off, absolutely delish… And the waitress was great!

The scenario is the same. Me and the bride make a stop in for some pre-valentine eats. Our meal selections are mostly predictable. I go with the Bison Ribeye, but my wife goes with the Bison t-bone. Both cuts are delicious and cooked perfectly. The added bonus this time was the Spinach salad. Wonderfully flavorful leaves of baby spinach with a vinaigrette dressing, some strawberries, hazelnuts and crispy duck confit. This plate is big enough for two but it’s not overly filling should you decide to go it alone. My only wish, a bit more strawberry, but That’s my love of strawberries coloring my judgement. Other may find the balance perfect. I still haven’t gotten my steaks for the grill yet, but I hear summer is coming…

I randomly happened upon this place the other night. It’s got a really neat speakeasy vibe, vintage decorations, and a lovely waitstaff. But, most importantly, the dinner was fantastic. The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and the vegetables were a lovely flavorful compliment to a really delicious meal. My date loved his steak as well. We will definitely be back!

Great food! Great place! Today was my second time visiting Tweeds and it was just as good as the first. I had the Bison Reuben which was fantastic! The meat was tender and broke apart like butter, the sandwich had just the right amount of sauerkraut and Russian dressing. The sandwich itself was enormous, so much so I had to take half the meat off. My husband was very happy to eat it for me, lol. He had the bison burger which was cooked to perfection with sautéed onions and cheddar. He thought it was amazing. The menu can be a little pricey so I would recommend going for lunch if you want to keep it under $ 40. Either way it is well worth the expense. The food, service and atmosphere is fabulous!

Beautiful, comfortable, classy looking place with a nice clean bar that seems to mesh with the compact restaurant. Comfortable ambiance. Came here for Thanksgiving night and was glad our party of 9 could get a table after an hour wait because almost every other restaurant was closed. Food was not bad.
