HMI is a great place for dinner. The food is always fresh, homemade, and prepared to perfection, which is hard to find! The service is also continuously great and the staff will not rush your dining experience. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice, as well. The dessert sampler… One word: wow! All desserts are homemade and so delicious!

Love, love love this restaurant! Been there many times, but always leave with a smile on my face. Wait staff is attentive and very knowledgeable about menu. First, let’s talk about the roll… I always think I could live without bread, then I look at that hot roll, and immediately butter it. Soup is always outstanding, Entrees are so delightful to look at – presentation is over the top, The peanut butter brownie is my fave, but I also love the rice pudding in phyllo, and the crème brûlée. Will continue to enjoy this great great and beautiful place!

The Harvest Moon Inn has been a great addition to our community for many years. Always a terrific meal and a great space to eat it in. The menu changes seasonally and showcases the stuff I see in the market that day and want that night. The plates are always beautiful to look at when placed in front of you, then the aroma wafts up and your olfactory senses kick in and you just know it’s gonna be good and then you take a bite… ahhhhhh! When it comes to restaurants, consistently outstanding is as good as it gets and they are the definition of it. Great portions and considering the quality of the meal, it’s a tremendous value. I have paid much more for a significantly inferior meal at a nearby restaurant, Matt’s Red Rooster. There is no other restaurant withing 20 miles of it that can compare if this is the type of food and experience you are looking for. Go to The Harvest Moon Inn and enjoy food from someone who loves to make people happy!

Went here for Thanksgiving dinner. Their special fixed price meal was, considering the quantity of food you got, was way overpriced at $ 43. Portions were close to miniscule. The a la carte menu was also very overpriced. Harvest Moon seems to be all about presentation, which is excellent, but not too much on seasoning or flavor. Pretty much everything was bland or bordering on bland. Service was very good, but a little lacking on attention. You aren’t made to feel rushed, and the atmosphere is very nice, though some of the patrons were dressed pretty sloppy; a place this pricey shouldn’t; allow shorts in its dining room. It was just OK. Not a place you want to hurry back to.

My mother held her wedding and reception at the Harvest Moon Inn. The restaurant staff was lovely, the food was great, and the venue is classic and simply elegant. My mom’s three bridesmaids were my step sister and two cousins(all 15 – 17 years old). Unfortunately, the bridesmaids and restaurant manager ended up butting heads a bit because they were walking around the exterior of our private reception room barefoot. They were all wearing 6 inch heels and obviously got tired standing in the shoes. I walked outside of the building to take a picture with my step-sister when the manager(I am assuming she is the manager, but I can’t really know for sure since she never introduced herself to anyone in our party) burst through the doors and screamed at my step-sister. She yelled, «You can’t be running around the restaurant in bare feet. It’s against– well EVERYTHING.» Instead of providing a clear and conscientious explanation of why she preferred her to wear her shoes, she chose an accusatory and embarrassing approach. Naturally, being a 16-year old my step-sister didn’t react well to a woman whom she did not know yelling at her and embarrassing her in front of a bunch of people. This left a sour taste in my mouth(and the mouths of many of my mother’s guests) as she made no effort to explain that it was against health code to walk around a restaurant without shoes on. Later in the night, she was still carrying on as my cousin walked past her in bare feet when the manager told my boyfriend that she«will not have attitude from these girls». Unfortunately, the girls did not mean to give her attitude and explained to me that their feet were hurting them and had they known that it was against the Harvest Moon Inn’s policy to not wear shoes they would have happily obliged. In all, my advice for the manager is that when dealing with your patrons, explain why they may be violating your policies. Approaching someone with criticism and accusations never provides sustainable solutions for interpersonal problems. It only breeds resentment.

There is an excellent bar with a wide variety of liquor. A knowledgeable bartender named charlie. The food is classic American with excellent service. It reminds me of being at the yacht club. Great place.

One of my favorite places. The food is very good, all the others don’t know good food if they are not liking this place.

I haven’t been here in years, but the fresh rolls are just as I remember them! They bake them ¾ of the way, and then when you get to your table they bake them off the rest of the way and bring them out hot and steamy. My family and I went here for Easter dinner. The selection was great. I got the crab soup, but it wasn’t anything too special and actually tasted better cold when I took it home. For my dinner, I got the sea bass over sweet potato gnocchi and seafood ravioli — it was much better than I expected! My boyfriend enjoyed his pork, and my grandfather like his linguini. My parents found their appetizer to be a little flavorless, but liked their entrée. Would recommend it for the bread, just know it’s a little pricey.

Went recently for a celebratory birthday dinner with 4 family members. Service was attentive but not overbearing and food very good. I am a vegan so asked for salad without the cheese and the vegetarian selection for dinner which were both very good.

My family and I come to this restaurant for every special occasion. They even catered my wedding and did an absolutely amazing job. Their staff is always kind and professional — every guest at my wedding raved about the food. If you are in the area and are in the mood for delectable high-quality food, you MUST come here. This is the Best restaurant in Hunterdon County by far.

Food was truly excellent. The bread was on point. The tuna appetizer was delicious but crazy small portion of seared tuna. Flavored made it «worth it». The homemade linguini with mushrooms was sick good. I would come back for that dish. I bet all the pastas are slamming. Striped bass was bangin as well. Service was polite from everybody working. Our server was pleasant. Honest to a fault, though. Went on a slow Tuesday night. She had been called in because someone else couldn’t make it.

FOODDESIGNEDNOTTOOFFEND, BUTNEVERDELIGHTS! We returned to Harvest Moon after an absence of quite some time. This used to be our«destination restaurant» for special occasions, but the quality of the food fell off and we found places with far better food at better prices(e.g. Matt’s Red Rooster in Flemington). Upon our return we found a marked improvement in the quality of service, but a disappointing degradation in the quality of the food. It was clear from the appetizer and continued on through every course that the food, while fresh and of obvious quality, was designed not to offend anyone’s taste sensibilities. The flavors were so muted as to be almost nonexistent. My wife and I always trade plates during each course, and each dish was universally flavorless and uninspired — both specials and regular menu dishes. Yes, the setting and the service are«high end», but the food was merely adequate, and given the«destination restaurant» prices, Harvest Moon simply failed to deliver. I do want to make a special point about the beef tenderloin(a regular menu item). The meat was very high quality, but suffered from a distinct«off note» taste. Upon sharing plates and palates, we think this may come from the beef having been cooked over an open gas or perhaps propane flame. The off-taste smacks of «gas» in some way, and was a distinctly off-putting taste that greatly detracted from an otherwise wonderful cut of meat. In short, the food(the beef aside) was«OK»(at least we didn’t have to cook and do dishes), but for the price paid it was drastically and dramatically underwhelming. It would be far better to drive into Flemington and enjoy Matt’s Red Rooster Grill, or for a special occasion, to drive up to Far Hills and enjoy the truly exquisite food at Ninety Acres at Natirar. It had been some time since we last visited Harvest Moon, and as it turned out, for good reason. I don’t see us choosing to return in the future.

Fantastic experience. The owners are lovely as is the staff. The food is as exceptional as the classic 5-star service. The wine list is next level and the chef makes all selections. The ambiance is cozy with original wall paper, Victorian décor, flickering candles on every table, a fireplace in the dining room, and a live piano. Unpretentious. Just fine dining the way it used to be.

Excellent in every way shape and form. I ordered the striped bass which was served on top of lobster… green pea, risotto. Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was wonderful. Beautiful restaurant with great service!!!

Went to Harvest Moon Inn with a large group of people. Food was mediocre and over priced, service was very sub par and really needs to improve. Very disappointing experience. Our group will not be back.

We have eaten at Harvest Moon on several«special» occasions in the past few years. I really believe that the food has gotten better. Last week, we went with another couple and all four of us agreed the meal was outstanding. Two of us had the beet, goat cheese mousse, and black truffle appetizer and, truly, it was one of the top 10 things I have ever eaten(and I have a good memory for food!) It almost looked like a s’more with the mousse oozing between layers of roasted beets. Really really good. I don’t remember what the men in our group had but know they enjoyed it. For entrees, I had the strip steak, which was really more than I could eat. The sides, which included spring peas sauteed with bacon and these amazing fried whipped potatoes, were so filling that the steak was really overkill. I only ate a little and my husband enjoyed it in a sandwich the next night. Two of my comrades had salmon, both of which they thought was delicious and cooked to their preference and one had a fettuccine dish that was delicious. For dessert, one couple split a cheesecake and we had lavender ice cream with berries, which tasted just like lavender! It was really refreshing after a heavy meal. The only reason why I wouldn’t give 5 stars is the service, which was overburdened. We went on a weeknight and it was apparent that all the reservations for the evening were booked for the same time. I think the person in charge of setting up reservations would have done the wait staff a service by staggering the reservations a little bit. Our particular server was fine, but for a $ 300 meal, could have been more attentive. All in all, it is a great special occasion restaurant. Definitely too expensive for every day but with the super fresh ingredients and really delicious and creative preparation, a treat once in a while.

This has become our«Special Occasion» restaurant, because every occasion here is special. Recently I celebrated 25 years at my company, and so six of us went to The Harvest Moon for cocktails and dinner. To begin with, the building is absolutely beautiful from the outside, with ample parking and an inviting entrance with all sorts of flora and fauna. When you get inside, you are welcomed by a spacious bar area appointed with polished brass, dark hardwoods, and shining crystal. The bar is well stocked(I’m a scotch drinker, and there was plenty from which to choose) with plenty of seating. We sat in the main dining room just in front of the fireplace, which was nice for a raw fall evening. I started with the arugula with crisp duck confit in a creamy lemon garlic vinaigrette with parmesan cheese and garlic herb croutons. This is a signature dish for them, and I crave it between visits to The Harvest Moon. We chose a few nice bottles of wine from their varied wine list. We kept it under control, and were able to find very good bottles of wine for not too much more than at a wine shop. For the entrée I chose pan seared tuna with cracked black pepper, whipped potatoes, sautéed spinach, and grilled portabella mushrooms in a spicy red pepper miso vinaigrette. This was cooked to perfection(I asked for it rare, barely touching either side to the heat.) I finished off with warm peanut butter brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate curls in a caramel and dark chocolate sauce and some coffee. It was truly divine. The Harvest Moon is a gem of central New Jersey. Try it out your next time through.

Well, this place has gone downhill, for sure. As a rule, I avoid refined carbs, so when I look at a menu and EVERYSINGLE item has some sort of simple carb as a major component, I’m immediately turned off. It wasn’t always like this. I ordered a bowl of the mushroom soup, which was tasty, but more like a cup. The salad I ordered was mediocre. I just wish this place was as good as it used to be. The building makes me want to love it so much more than I can justify. Oh, and the staff is unpleasant. Not much more to add. I see no reason to return.
