Bottom line. Don’t sleep on this amazing place. Luisa and Piccolo Gastronomia take the craft of sandwich making to all new heights. I am now a regular here after moving from«Italian Deli Heaven» aka Hoboken to Cliffside Park. And then out of nowhere, right down Edgewater Road in RidgeField, a few minutes from new my house, PG made my life impossibly better than it already was! Anything you buy or order from here is aces. True perfection. Beautiful, fresh, big, delicious, and service with a genuine wink and smile. Everyone who works here loves being there and doing what they do, or at least they’ve got me convinced of it, and it makes their product(s) GREAT, and it makes your experience as a customer very warm and pleasant. Cutting to the chase! When I bite in to my regular custom sandwich: Turkey, roast beef, cappacola, salami, ham, and provolone with lettuce, tomato, onion, hot peppers, mustard, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, oil and vinegar on a long roll — made with pride and joy by Luisa who’s birthday is coming up btw, I become instantly overcome with happiness, euphoria, and gratitude. My wife and I have shared the not too secret secret of PG with family and friends alike, and everyone is blown away by their food. Do yourself a favor, and take time out of your day /week /weekend, and make this precious gem a new regular stop because it’ll make your life BETTER, FOREVER. Thanks being 5 Stars FABULOUS Piccollo Gastronomia!!!

Given the proximity to where I live, I usually shop for my Italian delicacies at either Clemente’s in S. Hackensack, Vitamia in Lodi or Latona’s in Garfield — all three are excellent. I’m so glad, however, that I’ve stumbled upon this fantastic market. It’s well worth the extra 10 or 15 minute drive. The mozzarella is soooo good! The deli meats sliced paper thin, the cheeses wonderful, and the hot dishes delicious! And the service is super friendly. Luisa is so easy and delightful to speak with as she works, works, works behind the counter. It really makes the whole experience worthwhile and a big reminder as to why local neighborhood stores like this are so important given our rushed, crazed way of living here in northern NJ. She sort of helps you just relax for a minute and talk — talk about anything! Forget the Iowa Caucus — Luisa, Filomena and the rest of the family have their pulse on any subject with unbridled pragmatism and honesty. It would be interesting to get their take on how to fix the world’s woes. Of course, over a nice plate of meats, cheeses, some focaccia, olives and a bottle of wine! Ah, now that’s living! Enjoy!

Really nice place but super expensive. Got out of there paying 12 dollars for a sandwich with barely meat full of lettuce.

Thanks for charging me $ 9.50 for this meatless ham, salami, and mozzarella. Nice surprise when I got home.

This is an exceptional Italian deli & grocery. The mutz($ 8/lb) melts in your mouth. The ricotta pie was, in a word, sublime! The almond biscotti was as good as my mother’s. The pepperoni I’m using for homemade pizza tomorrow(with the mutz) is terrific — not too spicey. If you live anywhere around here, you owe it to yourself to go there… really, it’s that simple! I’ll definitely be going back soon!

The best italian grocery/supermarket/gastronomia there is in north jersey! I’ve been coming here since I was a young girl. Their rice balls are the best! I love ordering sandwiches such as chicken cutlet with fresh mozzarella. The broccoli rabe mmmmm delish. Ricotta pie pieces, oh my. The ladies behind the deli are so sweet and friendly you feel you’ve know them forever. Huge selection of imported Italian goods from Italy. I love this place forever and ever.

Whenever I really like a place it’s usually when I experience the whole package. This place is the whole package. Fresh, Abundant Selection, Service and Flavor. I went in without knowing exactly what to take to a friends home and left with a beautiful tray of Italian Cookies delightfully prepared by Luisa and what I believe was the owner. Absolutely great people.

This place is amazing. They have extensive selection of Italian products. Very fresh and very high quality. The prepared food is the real thing. A little pricey and they like pushing the expensive products to you. If you ask for suggestions be ready to be recommended the most expensive products not necessarily the best. Nevertheless their selection and quality is the best.

I would technically give this a 3.5 stars. This is an authentic Italian market that has a deli in the back. My boyfriend and I went for lunch and picked up a couple sandwiches. The sandwiches were good and you can tell they use fresh cheese and meats. They don’t have anywhere to sit to eat, so you have to bring it home(or eat in the car like we did), which is a little bit of a pain if you get hot food or pressed sandwiches. Next time I have a girl’s night, I am going to try the dried Italian meats and cheese which looked so good! I would definitely go back and try other things!

I can’t believe we haven’t tried this place sooner since we live nearby. The best Italian gastronomia(I think it means deli in italian) and food emporium I’ve been. A huge selection of Italian meats, cheeses, breads, drinks, confectionaries, and other foodstuffs. Molto bene!(somebody stop me). And they make wonderful sandwiches. We ordered a prosciute, muzzarel, roasted peppers, and basil sangwich on italian bread. Firstly, the muzzarel is homemade. Perfect texture and not too salty. Second, their prosciute was buttery soft. Sometimes, prosciute can bee too tough. Not here though. This hero was one of the better sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. Save for the corn-meal crumbs on the italian roll(dang corn-meal crumbs making a mess), it would’ve been the perfect sangwich. Moreover, the service was warm and welcoming. The lady behind the counter who made our sangwiches really plays up the role of a typical Italian-American mother. A lot of sass. But she was nice and funny. So yeah, check this place out.

Some very good stuff here and also some«industrial strength» stuff. Expensive side for everything. What I don’t like is their«penny-pinching” — even for regular customers. For example, going there 1−2X a week and ordering a prepared item, they put in an excessive spoon of olive oil to bring up the weight and cost. A couple of grouchy people work there and no «hello» or «thank you» for someone who spends $ 40 – 50 a time. I finally decided enough is enough and have cut back.

Close to my house and being from Italy, I love going there and talk some Italian to the owners. Everything I tried was delicious especially the fresh mozzarella.

Here’s another needle in the haystack. Places like this are getting harder and harder to find. Family owned business, kind staff, and a wide range of products from Italy. Private parking, great homemade mozzarella, and a huge deli. Make sure you check this place out.

For many years I’ve made a pilgrimage to DiPaolo’s in Little Italy for the Xmas antipasto. There you wait for hours to be served. This year I was feeling a little under the weather and not up to the effort. My search for something a little more accessible brought me to Piccolo’s. My wife’s hypothesis was that if there weren’t people waiting there before they opened then we wouldn’t be impressed. I got there 20 mins before opening(7:40am) — and not only were they opened early, but there was already a line! All of the meats we ordered rivaled or were better than DiPaolo’s(with the exception of prosciutto di Parma). Though to be fair DiPaolo’s has better prosciutto di Parma than you can get even in Italy unless you’re in the right region(we were unimpressed with the proscuitto we got on our last trip to Rome). DiPaolo’s also probably has the best selection of Italian cheeses that you’ll find. That said we were very happy with the quality of the Piave we ordered. We didn’t try the fresh mozzarella, as we already has some at home. But everyone there was ordering it. And the selection of Italian groceries is probably the biggest you’ll find outside of Eataly in NYC. Half the customers in there spoke Italian. And by the time I left at 8:20am the place was packed. Courteous and helpful staff. We are no doubt going to be future regulars here.

Amazing Amazing Amazing! I will not go anywhere else for my sandwiches. Delicious cold cuts, delicious hot food & just walking in there makes you hungry. Nowhere else in the area has better. Stop in even if it’s just for the yummy pastries they now have! The second you walk in there everyone is very friendly & makes you feel welcome.

Just wanted to get my first review in here right: tough not to do just that with the constant great spirit and knowledgeable staff over at Picolo Gastronomia. Head over there in the mornings when all the fresh samples are being put out at the deli. Like a meal just moving over and sucking down that stuff. Love this place.

the BEST Italian deli in all of Northern NJ. I have been purchasing food here for quite some time, and the staff is always courteous and a pleasure to order from.

As somebody who was spoiled early in life by the culinary wares of Arthur Avenue, I have grown accustomed to disappointment when visiting so-called Italian markets in suburbia. Piccolo is the grand exception, and I am lucky enough to have it nearby. You know you have the real deal when the staff speak fluent Italian, and sell their own produce that they grow in their yard(including Persimmons in season). The only place outside of NYC where I have found Buffalo Taleggio, and the best selection of Italian rices anywhere outside the Po Valley. Highly recommended.

Crammed full of Italian goodness, but ultimately a somewhat smallish store. We found some nice deals on pasta. They make their own fresh mozzarella — if it’s good(I didn’t buy this trip), I may have to reconsider my rating. Lots of cheese and deli meats. Olive oil everywhere(although no tasting, so no buying for me – I’ve been spoiled by fairway.) If you do the Super H to Mitsuwa trip, it is a worthwhile stop in between the two(although not on every journey). We often add fairway to the start of the trip. Gerry’s is bigger/better but not as convenient for me.
