Went to an amazing grand opening here last night. I positively love this places layout as a music venue. So when it opened as «The Lair» under previous management I was super excited. But that excitement soon faded when The Lair failed to book music acts, or ever acquire a liquor license. They also had some pretty severe issues with their food and service. Needless to say The Lair is no more. Zoetics on the other hand was wonderful. The downstairs bar area was packed but service was still prompt and drinks were reasonably priced and tasty. Adjacent to the downstairs bar area is a large room with wall to wall plasma TVs, a giant projection screen, several tables and a few captains chairs right up front. With the addition of the NFL Sunday Ticket that the owner told me about, this space will surely be a contender for the best place to watch sports and drink at in the immediate area. Upstairs there were two moderately sized spaces as well, one of them containing two long rows of tables with the stage and DJ. I did not get to hear the DJ spin, but for the time I was there a jazz band was playing and they were absolutely amazing. Adjacent to this dark concert space is a well-lit lounge area with a separate bar. The combination of the dual bars, the kitchen, and tentative staff allowed people to be actively served virtually anywhere in the establishment. And lastly I want to say something about the owner, Richard Mason. I would say that it is pretty common for the owner of just about any establishment to be wide eyed and enthusiastic on opening night. But in that company Richard Mason stood out as being particularly charged and optimistic about making Zoetics a serious concert venue. He expressed a strong interest in getting a variety of musical acts spanning every genre and with a focus on local performing artists. He even picked my brain about local bands that I might like or be interested in seeing and I shared with him my limited knowledge on the subject. So essentially, if you are reading this and you are in a band, or know a band who is interested in playing this venue I would highly recommend that you contact the owner Richard Mason because he is dying to get you/them up on stage. As with all new ventures I do not know if zoetics will make it, but the combination of the phenomenal concert space the sincere and enthusiastic owner make me extremely excited and enthusiastic about what this place might potentially develop into.
