I tried this restaurant when it first opened and it really wasn’t great. I would’ve given it three stars at that point. Today I decided to give them another go now that they are at least a year into their opening. …plenty of time to work out the kinks. They finally have a few specials and do they ever need them! Their prices are borderline ridiculous. I did have to ask for it at the end of the order, as the cashier rang me up at regular price which I was unaware of until she asked if I wanted a drink and I knew the special came with one. So ask or you shall not receive. As I was waiting for my food, two girls come in and whisper something to the cashier and they all then proceed to look my way. The girls made a beeline for me, not bothering to stop at the man at the counter as well. I know now it’s because I was deemed the dumb white tourist. One of the girls in broken English asked me for a donation because her father«has cancer». She then produced a tattered photograph of some poor Hispanic man in a hospital bed intubated and with multiple IV lines coming from every possible venous access point. All I could do was shake my head and hand her a darn dollar to get her out of my face. I started to mention how ashamed she should be trying to pull off the story she fed with that photograph, but if I truly wanted to get my point across I shouldn’t have held out the bill. In discussed, I said something to the cashier about this and she smiled and nodded. Anyway, I am now home eating the food and it still sucks. Don’t waste your time. Definitely don’t waste your money and you definitely don’t need the frustration of people coming to beg for money when you’re just trying to have a meal that you made the decision to honestly work for.

Chicken was very dry. A simple menu item order took over 20 minutes to prepare. They gave me the wrong item(discovered when I went back to the office.) Over priced compared to portions. Cole slaw was like eating cabbage soaked in milk that sat in the sun for a few hours then they quick cooled to aerve. Fries were in a VERY small bag. Why anyone would go here instead of chicken fiesta(next door) is beyond me. And no I don’t own or work at chicken fiesta. I would pass on this place.

I decided I wanted to try the Latin restaurant… so I ordered a «to go» order. First let me say the chicken(fried) was good. The restaurant was very clean and modernly decorated very professionally. I was the only person placing an order at the time but there were 4 – 5 tables waiting(from what I could tell later) that were waiting on their meals. When I received my meal I wasn’t sure I had the correct meal. Partly because they were preparing Yucca, for I think, most of the customers. A bit confusing. I thought the sides were good. One thing that surprised me, the servers behind the counter were reading a Campero color advertisement and even though what I ordered was on sale, I wasn’t offered the color ad until I paid for my meal at full price. LOL. I would have, as a business, handled that differently. I’ll visit the restaurant again.

For the record, I go to this restaurant on a weekly basis and have never ever seen this place dirty! The food is great! The downfall to this company is the service is slow, but as long as they have Citrus grilled chix available it is awesome. Not fatty at all! My fav is the Chix Bowl with the citrus grilled chix! My husband always get the ½ grilled chix or the fried chix. The fried chix is also very good but we prefer not to eat much fried. I agree sometimes the Camperitos are dry and not too good, but as long as the pieces are good in size then they are delicious, but when on smaller size they are def on the dry side. The next downside is the employees are not all that friendly or even act like they care about serving you. I still go there because the food is really good. I just wish they could keep the citrus grilled chix in stock and not run out all the time. I also would like to see the employees a little more friendlier towards the customers also.

Not satisfied. Quality and flavor was not good. Better off going to Fiesta or Toledo. Chicken Fiesta is right there, too. I feel like the chicken was much fattier and had greasier skin. The place is newer and was dirty inside.

I’d never heard of this company but saw they’d opened up down the street and decided to give them a try. I’m quite happy with my decision. They have delicious citrus-marinated chicken that’s meaty, juicy and flavorful. They’re a chain apparently but the food is still quite good. I’ve only been the one time but it was good enough that I’ll definitely return.

Food is delicious when not overcooked or not in stock. That is if you are still in the building after the egregious wait for your food. 1st visit — I ordered«Camperitos» — Fried chicken nuggets basically. They were dry and inedible, and they had no chili/lime salsa available. Waited 20 minutes to receive to-go. 2nd visit — Ordered Fried Chicken, Camperitos, Jamaica Drink — Everything was cooked well and absolutely delicious, although the wait time was 15 minutes with only 2 ahead of me and three behind me. 3rd visit — Ordered Empanadas with Chili /Lime Salsa. The Empanadas were excellent, but again NO Chili/Lime Salsa and another 20 minute wait with only one person ahead of me and three employees sitting in booths chatting. I attempted to call the location and speak with the manager but the phone either rang forever with no pick-up, went right to a generic mailbox, or was interrupted by a recording saying the phone was disconnected. I attempted to contact corporate offices but no good number exists and the website is no help as it directs you to error screens when clicking CONTACT This place has potential, but the slack/amateurish, slow service, lack of quality control and not stocking essential menu items, spells disaster to me for a restaurant with a line of hungry customers pilling out the door before making it to the counter to order a ticket to disappointment Island. Here’s the fix: Change locations and stop catering to mainly non — English speaking immigrants as the bulk of your business. Hire PROFESSIONAL managers who can turn this place around; speeding up service and overseeing quality workmanship and preparation Demand quality in both control and execution of food and customer service Actually STOCK the items you sell on your menu Market to a public who are eager for the variety and flavor Pollo Camperos definitely offers albeit hit and miss. As of now it’s Amateur hour at this joint

Went around noon on a Friday for lunch. While the shopping center is kind of skeezy, the restaurant was clean and not that busy. I got the camparitos(nuggets) with cilantro lime dipping sauce, an empanada, and fried plantains. I thought everything was pretty tasty. I will go back there again.

Pollo Campero specializes in el salvadoreno style fried chicken and is located in a shady shopping center off of midlothian within close distance to the stiff competition of chicken fiesta. I live in the west end and traveled all the way to southside to try this place out. I ended up buying a lot of food for some of my friends who swore by pollo campero saying its the best. I ended up ordering 220 piece(legs and thighs) and 5 orders of campero rice and 5 orders of campero beans which set me back about 110 bucks. The chicken was ok but besides the fact that you would need a deep fryer to cook the chicken tasted like something you could make at home, it didnt wow me. It is possible that I have been spoiled by Bonchon and the size of their drums but these drums were small and fried to the point where you can see the bone at the bottom. The thighs were just ok too. My favorite part of the meal was probably the rice it was considerably better than chicken fiesta. The beans had really good flavor but were really heavy on the salt. On the menu it said each side could feed 3 – 5 people and i was feeding 15 so i ordered accordingly, to my disappointment when i opened the sides they were filled 2⁄3 of the way… all of them… If i’m not mistaken i should have also gotten tortillas with my 2 orders of chicken, didn’t get them either. If i was reviewing soley based on food i would give them a 3 but for the service and atmosphere i had to knock it down a star. This place could probably be best described as a latino version of Popeyes. Upon walking in there were several dirty tables covered in trash and kids running everywhere as i was placing my order, i even witnessed a young child running into the kitchen area. The manager was so busy trying to explain to a customer they could not use the coupon on their phone he put me on hold for several minutes. All in all it wasn’t the employees or the manager that necessarily made my experience unpleasant it was the other customers that irked the hell out of me, customers with no public dining etiquette or public etiquette in general. I guess its like walking into a bar and expecting casual dining service, shame on me. I probably won’t be going back. Even my el salvadoreno friends said the food wasn’t as good as they had remembered.

So delicious! If there’s a lot of pple standing in line every day it means that the food is good! I don’t care how long I have to wait but the service is good and the food is EXCELLENT!
