I have to be honest… Dr. Frazee is a really nice guy. I actually think that he is a pretty good doctor. He is a loud-talker so if you have sensitive hearing, be aware. That’s not his fault, it’s just genetics. His office staff… rude. Period. They asked me what services I was looking for… I need a routine eye exam for contacts. My eye insurance co-pay for a routine eye exam is $ 10. I did opt for the internal picture of my eye rather than dilation. So I knew that I was going to be hit with a $ 59.99 charge, but hey, I don’t have to go home after and could get this done on my lunch break. They made me sit at all of the kiosks and vision tests, all computerized and facilitated by the office staff. I saw the eye doctor, he informs me that my vision is almost exactly the same as the last time he saw me. I get to the front desk… AFTERINSURANCE $ 369.00, they gave me one pair of trial contacts, and nothing else. They charged me the $ 10 co-pay for the routine eye exam and a separate $ 270 for the«contact lens eye exam» that’s like buying a ticket to a football game, going to concessions for a hot dog, and they make you buy another ticket in order to purchase the hot dog. I tried to appeal, but was denied by my insurance company, and also denied by their office staff. After I finish with this review I am going to call their office, inform them that I will never visit their establishment again, request all of my records, and report them to my insurance company for unethical business practices, as well as contacting the BBB. I’m being as fair as I possibly can. I could walk into 4 optometrists’ offices(that’s all I’ve called) and walked out with a 6 month supply of contacts and the eye exam to go with it for under $ 150 without using my insurance. I am more than dissatisfied. What sucks the most, like I said, is that I think Dr. Frazee is a nice guy, I really enjoyed our in-office conversation. And these things might be his doing, or the doing of his office staff, but they have lost a valuable customer. I won’t be back.

I came to Dr Frazee when I got on vision insurance because they showed being in network — I had previously been going to my same Dr. for 20 years. Since he wasn’t showing in the plan I decided to switch — that was a costly mistake! After insurance the out of pocket was almost $ 1300 for my husband!(They got another $ 400 from insurance) Just an eye exam for me — no lenses or glasses out of pocket was $ 280 and they collected another $ 150 from my insurance — this is absurd! I’ve been in contacts or glasses for 25 years and have never come across these type of prices! When I cancelled my follow up appointment to get contacts they got argumentative and said they would send me my files and prescriptions — I reported them to my insurance and guess what — I’ve never seen my files or prescription and was forced to go have another exam done somewhere else. Steer clear — bad business practices — I don’t care how detailed he is — it wasn’t worth that rip off!

Great experience overall. Extremely helpful and friendly office personnel. Dr. Frazee was patient and took time to explain everything, related to my prescription. I did feel like the charges(even after insurance) were a little excessive though($ 260).

I’ve been using Dr. Frazee for 20 years and can highly recommend him. He literally saved my eye and I am grateful for that. Some other reviews seem critical regarding pricing. You get what you pay for. As far as I’m concerned, I want a doctor with experience and knowledge. One that uses the latest technology. That stuff isn’t cheap. Dr. Frazee provides that to me. I’ll skip a Starbucks latte every week and continue to see Dr. Frazee every year. It’s worth the cost for me.

Dr. Frazee himself is nice, and the optometrists I’ve dealt with are nice, but the receptionists have been consistently borderline rude. I suspected they were overcharging and being unfair with their policies(requiring you to order your contacts from them if they provide your exam, charging ridiculous«handling fees,» etc.) but didn’t have a great basis for comparison. Have recently discovered that their extra fees and charges are definitely more than others’. Reasons to avoid the practice that have happened to me and my family: — My husband was charged over $ 150 for a «protective contact» when he scratched his cornea. Found that other doctors provide this free as part of the exam and that the lenses cost $ 12 to order online.(When he complained, they refunded part of the price, but it gave us a bad feeling.) — Was charged ridiculous prices for contacts and was required to order them from their office after the exam. After I got them home, all of the packaging indicated the contacts had expired. When I called the office they were dismissive and refused to replace them.(I have not had issues with the contacts, but again … bad feeling. Why are they moving so few contacts that they have expired ones sitting around?) — Needed to update my son’s lenses but our insurance didn’t allow for new frames this year. Dr. Frazee’s office merely ships the glasses to VSP to update; they don’t switch them out in their office. Even though we got the original frames from Dr. Frazee’s office, they are out of warranty, so not only did the woman at the front desk sharply inform me that they would not cover any damages, but we had to pay a $ 35 «handling fee» because the frames«weren’t theirs.» When I asked if I could ship the glasses myself since they were basically disavowing the frames as theirs, she said, «No, if you’re going to take advantage of us, no.» She suggested I ask the other doctor’s office about it when I said my son’s ophthalmologist allows us to send things to VSP directly(obviously that wouldn’t help me with THEIR fees). — Multiple times when I’ve been helped by a particular receptionist, she keeps eavesdropping on other clients(being helped by others) and jumping up to help them, leaving me stranded and waiting at the desk. Left me feeling that she didn’t find me valuable at all as a client and wanted to make sure all the OTHER clients felt welcome and valued. Everyone seemed puzzled from the clients to the other receptionists, as they were being perfectly adequately helped before she intervened.

Having used Dr. Frazee several times in the prior years my wife and I noticed the pricing was just far too high compared to every other eye doctor we had ever used. This last visit we determined we would get the eye exam ONLY and no extras, no contacts. Just a prescription that is current to fill elsewhere. Of course the people at this office seem determined to charge astronomical prices and told my wife the charge(after the exam was over) is $ 218!!! For a simple eye exam! Apparently they charge a «fitting fee» that they call an «Evaluation» no matter what if you get a contact exam. They did not fit her lenses. They only gave her a trial pair to use. Nothing more. When confronted about this they say it’s «normal». Funny, the last eye doctor we used didn’t charge that if we weren’t ordering them or getting a fitting! Since I’m the kind of person to pay my bills I told my wife to go ahead and pay them. Wanted to post up this review for other to make a educated decision about this doctor. They are nice, but they are also extorting money effectively by not disclosing fees like this before exams. Beware this Optometrist. Better yet, find a Ophthalmologist who has more education and is more likely to accept a better health coverage that stops shady practices from charging more than a set threshold. EDIT: After my wife experienced a issue with a replacement lens the doctor chose they did work with her in finding one that does work for her and thus there is value in the«fitting» fee. However had they not changed her lens brand to start with this would have not been an issue. I raised my rating by a notch for at least following through.

I chose this doctor because of the proximity to my office. Everything went well at the initial exam. It was very pricey in my opinion. Even after insurance, price was almost $ 400.00 for contact lens exam and 6 month supply. It was an additional $ 75 if you wanted the digital picture taken of the inside of your eye. Oh by the way, they force you to use your contact lens allowance on your insurance with them instead of being able to use somebody like 1−800-Contacts. If you use your insurance there, they say you have to get your contacts there too. I should have known by this something was wrong. A couple weeks after the exam I started having trouble with the contacts. I could not keep them in for a complete day without my eyes hurting. It felt like I had a hair trapped between my contacts and my eyes. I swapped them out, and still had the same issue. I left them out and everything was fine in my glasses. I called the Dr’s office and explained briefly what was going on and she quickly requested my medical insurance this time. I asked, why this would not just be a follow-up exam to my $ 400 contact lens exam. She advised that this was a new medical issue and would require a whole new exam. What??? Really??? I hung up the phone, and called my old eye Dr and explained what had happened with this Dr and they agreed to see me the same day at no charge. Update: After my reviews started hitting the internet, I quickly got a phone call and an email from the doctor’s office stating, «The doctor can see you now». I bet.
