This is our go to authentic Mexican. Order the horchata to start then a shrimp cocktail for your main course: Coctel de cameron. The place is plain and comfortable. Not a go to business place but when I want to feel like friends visiting Tlaxcala then the choice is easy. Relax and enjoy. Tell the waiter El Jefe sent you.

I didn’t have my hopes up before going to this place for my lunch break, for good reason. The food is flavorless, and this place absolutely doesn’t live up to the Americanized Mexican joints that are littered throughout Columbus. The food was bland and underseasoned, plus the portions were somewhat small. If you’re in the area, I would suggest Poblanos up the street on Main.

This restaurant has nothing that separates themselves from any other Mexican restaurant. No flavor, not spicy, average salsa and chips. I got the El grade plate and it has 5 different specialties and none of them had any flavor. Just below average taste. Service was also far below par. All of us finished our meal and still were waiting on a side taco. Go elsewhere.

Small hole in the wall place, but normally pretty good food. Staff is friendly too. Prices are a little better than the other big names in town.

A few years ago, this place was great. But now they serve thick stale chips, thick cheese dip and probably the worst guacamole I have ever had. There is nothing fresh here. The tomatoes and lettuce were old. The refried beans taste like they came from a can. Very disappointing, and overall just tasteless.

One of the best independent Mexican spots in Columbus. Great food, super nice service. Though it is clearly converted from an old McDonald’s, the interior is genuine and inviting.

Overtaxed staff, so so meal. The food was OK when it arrived. Quality across the meal fluctuated wildly from really good to mediocre at best. It was apparent they were short staffed, so the rotten service we got will be forgiven. If that is how it is on our next visit… The chips, salsa and guacamole were pretty good. The hot sauce that comes with the tacos is too much for most people, not to be given to kids at all. H We will try again as we think we were just there on a bad night.

Here it is: Hostess seemed inconvenienced by having to seat us, then had to wipe the table off. Used a dirty towel. Server came over, no greeting took our order, our drinks and food came out together, and the never saw the server again. My husbands fajitas were overdone, my food was ok… just ok though. No refills, no «is everything ok». The next time we saw our server was when we went to the hostess to get our bill to pay. It’s near impossible for us to not tip, but no challenge this time! Worst Mexican restaurant we have ever been to.

Best authentic mexican i have had so far in the cbus area! Everytime the food is fresh, well cooked, flavored correctly. The pork is divine, chicken is fresh, i have no complaints.

Waited to be served, took a good 10 min, waited for our food, took 40 min, server was never there, food was cold, and the service was awful! Never again

Most these«Mexican» restaurants seem to pair about the same, but El Portal stands out a little better with lots of flavor, and hearty meals. Service is great, with a fast and friendly staff. Even their tortillas have a great fresh corn flavor. Try their hard shell tacos with their(free) hot salsa… yum.

Incredibly good hot sauce! The atmosphere is fair. The food overall is below average. Their cheese is the worst I’ve experienced in any Mexican restaurant ever. The staff however is extremely friendly and offer good service. I wouldn’t ever return unless they ditch that horrible liquid microwave cheese.

After living in Reynoldsburg for more than 3 years, I’ve driven pass this restaurant many times and never thought to stop by. I’m glad I did stop by EVENTUALLY and was satisfied with the food & service(which was quick, yet still tasty). The lunch portions are hefty with a price similiar to what you would pay for breakfast. They even have specials during the week(i.e. happy hour) that sounds promising as well. I’ll be looking forward to stopping by this place again, anticipating to try their grande magaritas, for a low cost. This«in the neighborhood restaurant» has potential to allow others to enjoy good mexican food/drinks locally, versus driving to another part of town.

This definitely ain’t real Mexican food, as it’s been changed to accommodate Reynoldsburg tastes, which would be frightened by some dishes being too authentic and too flavorful. Still, I’ve had a few different items here including the quesadillas which I got with cheese, caramelized onions and mushrooms. Decent portions, pretty tasty, and affordable. Beats the hell out of the Taco Bell down the street.
