One of the few good restaurants on the Rensselaer side of the river. One thing I really do like about this restaurant is you can get a fantastic steak or seafood dinner or get a simple Reuben sandwich or turkey club. The restaurant does seem to care about the quality of the food they put out which is a big plus. The seafood appetizer for under $ 15 is absolutely amazing and big enough for four easily. I’ve had a couple different steaks here my favorite has been a ribeye. The service staff are always quick and professional even when very busy. The French onion soup I thought was very good that is not a normal dish I would order but had it and it was delicious.

I would just like to start out by saying this does not have to do with the restaurant but with the cafeteria at The Doane Stuart School that they run. The food in the beggining was good but now it has become subpar and watching their servers rub their eyes, scratch their head’s, and wipe sweat from their face all while wearing or not wearing gloves and then serving food to you is really unappetizing. Now for their food… The burgers are made with low quality meat and their ovens dont work, they make pizzas on tortilla shells and it is basically an incredible thin layer of dough that is soaked in grease with cheese and sauce ontop. The service is great and they work hard. This review isn’t to show how bad it is but to them how to improve All the best

When I think of Rensselaer, I think of… spelling the darn place. My neighbor just took me to Casey’s on a Monday night. They have a fix menus on top of their regular stuff on certain nights. I was impressed… not much to look at from the outside, but insides has a cozy feeling. Very unexpectant! Loved the surprise! The menu had a good selection and I could have ordered a number of itmes from seafood to a burger. I had the fix menu, which was a appetizer, salad, main course and dessert for $ 20. The portions of the each item was generous… I had the eggplant parm as my main dish and it was delicious. The eggplant was thinly sliced with light breading and the sauce was great too. I left satisfied and wanting to return again. They were very busy for a Monday night and seem like they have good staffing. I do agree with some of the reviewers that the service is slow. If you can deal with that, then this place is a gem. The place is small and there is a bar for some seating. I would recommend a reservation no matter what night you are going.

Went here for a birthday dinner. Food was great. Especially when I found out my $ 28 surf and turf dinner would only cost me $ 8! They offer a $ 20 discount if it’s your birthday. Large portions which I turned into about 3 meals.(Not bad for $ 8!) Wine was over priced, but drafts were priced reasonably. Our waitress was great, she was obviously extremely busy, but was always right there when we needed something. Looking forward to returning.

Well I would have said the food was great, but I just got home and was excited to open my take out box, to eat my hazelnut chicken, which I intentionally ordered my sauce on the side because I knew I would have a lot leftover. Anyone who has ever had hazelnut chicken would know it’s pretty gross without the sauce. The waitress didn’t bother to pack the sauce, and she didn’t bother to ask me either. I was so excited to go there specifically for this dish I had eaten previously at a party they catered. I have recently had surgery I can only eat small amounts at a time, and cannot eat leftover chicken without some type of liquid. The waitress made me feel uncomfortable to the point I felt I had to explain about my surgery– because I guess she felt she was too busy to wrap up my food. Extremely disappointed! Needless to say, I don’t think I will return.

Love this restaurant. You can get things like simple bar food to an excellent formal meal. We have never been disappointed here so we recommend it. Personally, I love the liver and bacon and crème brule. If you give this restaurant a chance you will be happy.

I’ve eaten at caseys a couple times over the years it was good a lot of hype but wouldn’t compare to albany restaurants though, So I recently was invited in the kitchen where the food is prepared, what a old, filthy kitchen! Food all over the place !! Looked like floors are in need of a good old fashion scrubbing, along with the equipment that you cook our food with ! But like a friend of mine who works in albany says welcome to rennsalaer they’re health dept codes are 25 years behind the rest of the state, I hope you will take this time put as much pride in your kitchen as you do the front of the house and clean up your kitchen and enforce safe handling for food

ATTENTION: MUSTREAD In the heart of Rensselaer a small upscale restaurant with great food and BAD customer service. Being there regular customers for years, today I feel the need to inform everyone about a very unpleasant incident that occurred earlier this evening. My fiancé went to pick up our orders of wings from Casey’s. Usually they have good/okay customer service but we were blown this evening. They gave us less wings for the same price thinking we would not pay attention. Blue cheese that came with it was less then half in those little containers. This is Absolutely unacceptable, Dishonesty and Bad Customer Service at its peak. Mind you my fiancé is a good man and also tips on top of the take out order, which most people don’t. Even worse when I called the restaurant and asked for the manager, one of staff acted like she was the manager and lied to me saying the prices have changed over the webpage and on the new menus. Then she kept saying they can give us the rest if the wings. It was too late. They do have great food BUTREALLYBADCUSTOMERSERVICE. It’s a nice place, ran by waitresses mostly. It would be much more pleasant if the waitresses are more courteous and mannerful. Why work in hospitality if you can’t be humble and nice to others.

This was my second time at Casey’s, and I’ve seen some improvements that deserve mention. We arrived at 7 on a Tuesday night. The bar was packed and the narrow entry was full of people waiting to be seated. It took a while just to get our names on the wait list. The hostess, who clearly needed someone else to help with the volume of patrons, told us it would be about 15 minutes. We ordered a drink at the bar but had to retreat to the entryway to stand. In the span of five minutes we saw at least a dozen people leave, but their empty tables remained uncleared for about 15 minutes. It seems the hostess does double duty as bus girl, so more a management issue than the staff’s fault. About half an hour after our«15 minute» wait, we were seated. Last time we waited well over an hour, so an improvement there. Service is as slow as other reviewers described, but the food is really great– and this is what saves the restaurant. Portions were hot, well seasoned, and generous. I had enough seafood and veggies for a midnight snack and lunch the next day. Last visit they sent me home with a few veggies but none of the scallops I’d asked to take home. Attention to detail is getting better. Bottom line: if you’re a stickler for impeccable service, you’ll be disappointed. But if you go with the understanding that you’ll wait for a while(even with a reservation), you’ll find the food to be among the best you’ll find on this side of the Hudson.

Didn’t expect to need to review this place, but my spouse and i are a special kind of stay in at certain points during the calendar year, and if you’re on the EG side of the Hudson, looking to get dinner that won’t disappoint, isn’t overly priced, grasping for the stars, and survives a trip home for take away, I recommend Casey’s. The staff was friendly to me on the phone(for a female making an order that is rare) and they delivered all special requests(no onions on either salad, dressing no the side). Aside from great customer service and product delivery, it all tasted as we hoped and no less!

Look… I want to give it five, but the heat in the dinning room had me contemplating taking my entrée to go so I could eat it at home in the comfort of my AC. The food? Bread — Fresh, warm and home made with good olive oil and Baslamic with roasted garlic. Calamari– Breaded to order and fried in clean grease. Romain Salad fresh with h thin red onion and pretty whole cherry tomatoes, grated carrot.(Side of crumbled blue cheese and oil and vinegar available when I requested it). Entrée– petite filet cooked well with green beans almondine, piped real smashed potatoes and… REALDEMIGLACE. Almost a sauce espaniol. I could tell the moment it hit my lips this was no Minors Demi. The shine and texture of this demi was lovely and I appreciated it. The meal wasn’t perfect. But at $ 20.00 for this four course meal, I had a suprisingly great experience. Local small tavern getting it right. Good job, chef.

My boyfriend and I have been here three times now, and each time our experience has been spectacular. It’s a very laid-back atmosphere. I like going here for Guinness, because they actually know how to build it properly, which is unfortunately kind of rare. The portion sizes are absolutely enormous. I love the Haddock Byron – it’s fish covered in a white wine and cheese sauce. I’ve never been able to finish it yet. It’s not an inexpensive restaurant, but with the atmosphere, the quality, and the portion sizes – not to mention the whole locally-owned-and-operated thing – make this a good destination. But plan on leaving very, very full.

I have been to Casey’s so many times the food is always great, service can be slow, but its worth it. I always get their scallop dish it is so good! Bottom line pretty cheap and food is great, if you don’t feel like driving into Albany for dinner.

Decent food, generous portions. Bread and olive oil on tables in dining room is a nice treat. We’ve been to Casey’s on several occasions and I would rate it 3 or 4 stars, but there was a time I went in with an Entertainment Book coupon and the manager refused to honor it for no reason. Clearly and bait and hook situation… Overall I would say everything is great, but if you intend to use a coupon ask if they honor it before being seated.

Always a good meal at Casey’s. The wait staff are attentive and courteous. A quick meal for me of soup and sandwich, but my companion could not stop raving about the quality of the tenderloin she ordered. Hats off to Noël, the chef and the staff for a perfect end of the weekend dinner.

Only four reviews for Casey’s so far? I can’t wait to jump in. Casey’s is a full blown restaurant with a good selection of different things but I’m going to review based on what I nearly always get here, the wings. Now wings are available all over so why should you come here? Yes you can get good wings in so many places but it’s the accompaniments that make the difference. The thick stalks of celery and the blue cheese dip with large chunks of cheese in it make the difference. The wonderful bread served with garlic dipping oil makes the difference. These all come with an order of wings. So here is a meal that is very filling for about 10 dollars. But don’t be like me. Try anything on the menu. I bet it’s all good. Service is very efficient and the bar is an old fashioned delight; the walls are wood paneling. On the other side is a nicely appointed dining room. The whole thing is in what looks like an old hotel. I would give this 5 stars but I take away one because I feel the beer selection is lacking. I would like some more craft beer. It is a solid 4 stars. This is definitely a Rensselaer landmark

Ever cross the Dunn Memorial Bridge and take the next immediate exit into Rensselaer? No? Well, why the hell would you unless you lived in the city of Rensselaer. Ah, but if you did, you’d come across Casey’s. Perhaps a reason to finally venture off that exit. For a year I lived in Rensselaer, one block down from Casey’s. It’s a neighborhood joint, through and through. And it draws a crowd, a decidedly middle aged crowd, though a crowd nevertheless. Washington Ave is packed with parked cars during happy hour and weekend evenings. The menu consists mainly of pasta, chicken and seafood dishes, with other typical capital region tavern fare thrown into the mix. My burgers have always been solid. The pasta dishes are good, albeit overpriced for the area. And I’ve been served some of the best clam chowder(big chunks of clam, not too full of potatoes) and steamers I’ve ever had outside of New England. In a way, Casey’s is much like most of the other neighborhood joints dotting the region. Some items standout, while others tend to feel pricey. Casey’s deserves four stars because it’s a neighborhood mainstay in a city with almost nothing else. A city of nearly 10,000 residents deserves more than just one or two sit down restaurants. Thankfully, Casey’s remains as one of the few establishments in the city limits.

I hadn’t eaten at Casey’s in several years. I went with friends on 7⁄23. The food was as good as I remembered it. I had the New England Baked Haddock — good meal. The service was friendly and prompt. All around, Casey’s is still are great place to eat.

This neighborhood restaurant and bar has been owned and operated by the Casey family for many years. The Caseys, who were my neighbors from back in the day, at one time owned several former restaurants in Schodack and Troy. Casey’s is open for lunch and dinner and serves up a basic American menu including appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, steaks, chicken, pasta, and desserts. I’ve dined here several years ago and the food was okay each time. The place has all nice hardwood flooring with the dining room to the left and the cocktail lounge(wood walls) to the right. The dining room is dimly lit and has wood table seating with light pinkish walls, framed printed art and wine bottles on the wall shelves. Recently, I popped in here for lunch on a couple of occasions to see how the place is still doing and to sample the food. The New England Clam Chowder had good chunks of clams, potatoes in a thin broth, bland tasting. The Chicken Salad Sandwich(on wheat bread) was flavorful and had tender chicken chunks with mayo dressing. The Haddock Fish Fry served with tartar sauce was a large piece of breaded fish on a roll, was a bit salty and the fish tasted fine. The fries were fried crispy and salted just right. The cole slaw was creamy. The pasta salad had bacon bits with a creamy dressing which had an overbearing taste. The service here was decent and timely. PARKING: Limited parking on-site and on-street parking nearby.
