I hereby rate this Unilocal event a 4. And the food a 3.5. First of all, kudos to the internet for connecting a bunch of internet strangers to sit down and share a meal. While many of us local Unilocalers were not strangers(Hey Justin, Robert, Ly, Mickey, Paul and Rain), Chris and his friend were in town for an event and wanted to try some local tasty phở. They were both super nice and friendly and it was just a nice little dinner to get together and enjoy some decent food. I ordered the #50, the crispy grilled pork(always tell the server EXTRACRISPY, is there anything sadder than limp pork?) on a bed of cold noodles and lots of fresh veggies with imperial rolls. It comes with a slightly sweet fish sauce — throw that in the bowl. Steal some of the hoison sauce from the springs rolls too — throw THAT in too. Then swirl, swirl, and swirl. Mmmm. This is my go-to dish when I’m not in the mood for phở. While I’ve had better elsewhere, this dish was fine(if not memorable) here. A few years ago I spent nearly a month in Vietnam for work and thoroughly enjoyed just about every dish I had(I passed on the porcupine and dog meat, though). I loved that phở is commonly served for breakfast, even at the fanciest hotels. I preferred that over the more common French baguettes and eggs most Westerners chose. And on the sidewalks, if you saw a grandma sitting on a low red plastic stool with her vat of steaming broth and bucket of noodles and a little charcoal grill glowing red with crispity meat products roasting on top — 9 times out of 10, that dish would taste much better than what you just ate in a hotel.

Asian Phở. foh. fah. foo. feh. fuh. Fuh! Yep that’s as close as you can get to pronouncing it right over here. So now when you see a place called Phở King… you really know what they are saying. Anyway, we were last minute additions to this cool little shindig and Paul was ONIT! Paul was a great host as always(you really should check out his Beer Club UYE’s). The food was down right tasty. I ordered the #16. Rare steak. Love this. No work in eating it. Normally I have my mix of ingredients but I took a second before I spiced it all up and tried the broth. I really liked it here. I don’t know what they do, but it was tasty. Some day I am gonna have to do a comparison of real phở and from the packet phở so I can tell the difference. Just my luck… I’ll probably find out I like phở from a package. Anyway…the service was what we get at Asian Phở whenever we go in. It’s close to the house so when we want Phở this place is our go to. Meeting Chris was really the best part of the meal. He and his friend were really cool. Thanks again Paul for putting this up! Another Phở King succes!

What the Phở? I have been craving phở and haven’t really found any good spots so I decided to crash this UYE. Sorry for not clicking«I’m in» Paul and thanks for not turning me away haha 5 stars for having dinner with friends and showing Unilocalers from out of town what Reno is about. Yay!

How super fun to meet other Unilocalers — especially when they are in Reno from out of town. I was not expecting this place to be in the same building as the gas station; however when you are eating in the restaurant it certainly does not feel like it. I had the Vegetable Chow Fun. Long flat noodles, sauce and plenty of broccoli, cabbage and carrots. This dish is super yummy. As we had dinner the restaurant got quite busy; however, I must say I noticed that they did a ton of take out orders. There was always someone coming and going picking up food. Busy place with yummy food — I would definitely go back.

February 5, 2015 Thursday — 6:00PM dinner My wife and I, plus the man of honor Chris L. and a bunch of other Unilocalers Atmosphere — 4 stars Food — 4 stars Service — 4 stars Background — Having a meal with a visiting east coast Unilocaler Chris L. Always great to meet other Unilocalers! Atmosphere — I do not know how many restaurants have been in this place. But it has been totally redone from the last time I visited, and it has more seating. Food Drinks — Just water for me. If you wanted something else stair at the glass door refrigerator to see what you want. No list of drinks to be found. Dinner — #10 Phở which is rare steak and well-don’t fiank. Okay the fiank should be flank but the menu has that word spelled wrong everywhere. $ 7 large got you a good size bowl. It was very filling. Service — For a large group she took our order all at once and our food came out rather quick. Could thing we had numbers for each item as that is how they came out. Who had the #10, I did. At the end of the time she had the bill and we each paid our own portion of the bill, as she scratched out each number. Future — Sure will.
