I recently spent a week training for paramotor flight with Fred and Kasia of Uprising Paragliding. My occupation requires attending continual technical training seminars, so the process is almost ubiquitous for me. I have developed high expectations for the level of instruction during the training I receive; if I’m going to pay for it, I want to get good value in return. Fred and Kasia really delivered. They had me up to speed and safely able to solo on the third morning of training. By week’s end, I was able to complete maybe a dozen flights under Fred’s watchful eye, and I felt very comfortable in the air. I particularly appreciated their methodology of not overloading the student with too much information early on. The pair gave me very clear instruction, and by following their lead as closely as I could, I was able to advance very quickly. Post-flight, I quickly came to understand they are a wealth of knowledge on the subjects of powered and free flight, readily able to dispense comprehensive advice on gear, technique, weather conditions, and suggested literature. At no time did I feel rushed, or in danger of performing an exercise I was not yet ready for. The ability to safely instruct a supreme novice like myself into the air in such a short time is pretty remarkable. As everyone says, I will remember that first solo flight for the rest of my life! The week of training ranks highly on my list of ‘bucket list’ life experiences. We parted ways as ‘fast friends’, as Fred and Kasia are not only highly competent instructors, but genuinely good people and a blast to be around. I look forward to training again with Uprising in the future, and cannot recommend their service enough. If you have thought about flying, I have this advice for you: receive competent instruction, purchase good quality gear, and get out there and do it!

If you are up for an adventure this is the company to go with. With great communication skills and great directions, super experienced and knowledgeable pilots and support drivers and staff made this flight a wonderful experience. No need to search elsewhere for a true paragliding adventure for first timers and veteran pilots

I and two family members had the pleasure of riding with Uprising in August on two different occasions. It was the first paraglide for all three of us, we had varying degrees of nerves, and we’re so glad we did it. We started with a brisk 20 minute walk up the hill carrying a pack. They do a good job of chatting with their riders, not only because they seem genuinely interested in getting to know people, but it probably helps them gauge who needs a break on the hike. The view from the top is worth the hike, even before you jump off. I did a tandem with Tomas and he did well to manage my expectations. He explained what was going to happen well before we were strapped together and running off the side of a perfectly good mountain. Knowing things ahead of time helped reduce my anxiety. Also, because he was so calm and thorough, it created confidence that this was going to go well. Once we were airborne he gave me the option of flying, explained anything I wanted to know about the mechanics of what he was doing, or he was fine just letting me enjoy the view and the wind in my ears. It’s amazing how peaceful it is when you’re up there, I can see how people would get hooked on this. It’s a great vantage point to see just how blue-green Lake Tahoe is, and it was fun to watch other paragliders going past us. We rode the thermals, just like a bird, until it was time for our perfect landing at Kings Beach. If they can make some money doing something they love to do, and share their sport with others — how can it get better than that? ~Colette
