Stopped by The Works the other day and grabbed a turkey cranberry club with candied bacon, just to see what this place was about. I wasn’t very sure about having waffle as the bun but it worked for me. It’s got to be this crazy craving for untraditional dishes on the campus of UNR that the college students look for, but it works. As I was saying having a waffle is place for bread was different and I would recommend trying it. The combination and flavored blend well together. If your looking for parking I would suggest to get a day pass at Brain J. Whalen parking lot and park at the top. Parking will be bad and you will have to navigate through this parking lot to find a spot. But if you come on the hour some classes are likely to have gotten out and students leaving to go home. So if your lucky you could grab one of those spots. This places usually isn’t too busy even during lunch time so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to come here for lunch. Now that I said that your experience will be opposite of that haha. But I hope not. They have a great selection of unique dishes you won’t find around town. I would recommend trying one of there sandwich wafflerz. I see a lot of students ordering these items and it’s kind of fun to change it up from time to time. They have indoor and outdoor seating. A really nice place to people watch and chit chat. Thank for reading my review.

The Works is awesome! The manager and staff are super friendly. The manager always goes out of his way to ensure the customers are happy. This is a great place to eat on campus.

I wanted to like this place. There aren’t that many food options at UNR and I usually take my lunch anyway but when I do spend, I like trying places I haven’t been to before. I saw their menu and the few reviews they had seemed promising so I went to try it out for myself. They have waffles on one side and a Chipotle-looking side on another. I decided against the waffles and headed to the other side. I was promptly greeted and the employee explained their offerings and helped me decide what to order. I got a bowl with brown rice, meat, salsa, and guac. Their toppings were a little dismal. If you are a business adopting a concept from an already successful franchise, it’s really not that hard to pay attention to the details. Disappointingly, the best part of my meal was the complimentary jicama salad.

FYI — The Works is on the UNR campus on the bottom floor of Fitzgerald Student Services, and attached to the Whelan parking garage. There is metered parking across from Lawlor Events Center. I go to school AND work on the UNR campus. I’ve made the best out of the food offerings on campus, but to be honest, I end up ordering Jimmy John’s more often than I eat on campus. That might change now! The Works has two main offerings — Chipotle/Qdoba-style made-to-order burritos, bowls and salads, and a waffle side. On the burrito side, you get to select your toppings, and customize your burrito, bowl or salad. Meat, veggies, salsas, etc — you know the drill! On the waffle side, they have sweet and savory waffle offerings. Think sandwich bar — they fold the waffle in half to make a breakfast sandwich, or another savory option — including chicken and waffles! For me though, the sweet waffles are a bigger draw. They have a variety of toppings that you buy by the each — I had a waffle dipped in caramel, with nutella and bananas on top. My waffle ended up around $ 4.50 with those toppings — but it was very filling. I probably could have shared it, but I ate the whole thing(I posted a picture!). I can see myself dining at the Mexican food side regularly(the price is comparable to ordering Jimmy Johns) and having a waffle as a fun treat every now and then!

This is a great addition to UNR’s somewhat dismal, but improving, food scene. With mostly chain fast-food and cafeteria style options, this chipotle-style counter has been bumpin’ ever since it opened. If you’ve been to Chipotle or Qdoba, you know the drill. 1) get in line, 2) order a salad, bowl or burrito, 3) choose your rice, 4) add beans, 5) select your meat(pork, beef, chicken or veggies, 6) and salsa, 7) cheese or sour cream, 8) quac is extra. That’s it! They are fast, the service is friendly and the food is tasty. As a nice little addition, you get a spicy little slaw on the side which is made with carrots, jicima, jalepenos and dried cranberries. Although I haven’t tried one, they also serve up fresh made belgian waffles with all the fixings. The line is usually pretty long around the peak lunch rush, so it’s best to visit around 11am or 1pm. The prices are on par for campus dining — about $ 6-$ 8 per meal. I also really appreciate the location in the student services building as the union can be an overwhelming experience during afternoon hours.

This steam punk themed place is located on and in the University. If you do not have a University parking permit, you will need to park in metered parking. Therefore, I suggest this restaurant for University students, staff and faculty. The Works is a new eatery on campus. Being open for less than 2 full weeks, me and my co-workers decided to try them out. I and a friend tried their Jalapeño Chicken burrito. It tasted good. It seemed as though there were raw jalapeño peppers diced into the chicken, but for me, being a spice head, it could have used some more. The staff was quite helpful and even the chef helped out in prepping my burrito. Other co-works opted for the Waffle sandwiches and they did look good, but the main complaint with the waffles was they were hard to handle. My concern is that between my friend and myself, our burritos were noticeably different sizes. My burrito was so filled, the tortilla could barely keep in the stuffing! Personally, I like that when they are stuffed that much. But, the burritos should be of similar sizes regardless who makes them. (Please follow the chefs lead and stuff those puppies!) The price was right and even with a large drink(NOFREEREFILLS), the total was under $ 8.00 which puts that in a perfect range for most UNR students and nearly all staff and faculty. The location is easy to find. If you know where the Knowledge Center is, look west to the Whalen parking structure. It’s on the first floor of the attached building to the left. Look for the steam punk interior.
