Finally a good chineese food spot! They have some amazing walnut shrimp and everything was fresh. I typically do not like the soups but both Eggdrop and hot and sour where spot on. The pricing was not expensive and the place was packed for lunch. This is now my goto place!

Food was pretty good. We had the lunch specials. My husband had kung pow shrimp and I had chicken with asparagus. He got his order at least 5 min before mine arrived which was awkward and caused my husband to wait and his food got cold. The specials come with soup(egg drop or hot and sour) we got one of each. The hot and sour was ok but not too special, the egg drop was neon yellow and tasted as if a chicken base was used instead of true chicken broth. The crab puffs were soggy but my husband said they still tasted ok. Food was tasty. We will probably be back to try other dishes since our long standing Chinese place on moana and lakeside isn’t what it used to be. However still on the look out for good«American«Chinese food locally!

I have to admit, it took us a while to discover The Wok… which is strange since it’s literally right under our nose, very close to our home. We had been fans of another take-out Chinese place nearby, but inexplicably, their items changed drastically. Order the same item, what arrived was very different… hush-hush ownership or management change? Either way, overnight, it wasn’t the food we liked. I digress… So, we ordered online from The Wok, and have been hooked ever since! The prices are very reasonable, the dishes are consistently awesome, the portions are generous, and every single items we’ve tried tasted fantastic, was hot and freshly prepared and their service is friendly and welcoming! Not many take-out Chinese places boast those traits! In fact, every time I’ve been to The Wok, it’s always busy, and there are lots of Asians eating there! I mean this in the best way possible… their food is LEGIT!!! We enjoy The Wok’s cuisine as fast a weeknight dinner, and even ordered 4 orders of their Peking Duck for our«Friendsmas» dinner over the holidays… it’s THATGOOD. Everyone loved it! On, and mega-bonus…a frequent diner punch card that allows you to earn $ 10 discount when you fill the card!!! Smiling faces, great food AND appreciation for repeat customers!!! The Wok… I’m so glad we found each other!

If you like authentic northern style Chinese food then this is by far the best place in Reno!!! I had the pork blood, beef tripe, tofu soup and it tasted better than a lot of places in SFs china town. A perfect balance of hot people heat and star anise numbing! It honestly compares to some of the better hot pot sauce bases I have tried. I would definitely recommend eating here.

The wok is a must try Chinese restaurant in Reno and Spark area. I see this one on Unilocal for a while and finally decided to try them out. Not disappoint at all. I did order octopus with salt and pepper, cumin lamb, Chinese broccoli with oysters sauce, chicken with spicy sauce on the side, steamed fish and grill shrimp with spicy sauce. I did enjoy all those dishes. They all taste so authentic. The broccoli and grill shrimp came in huge potions. We can’t even finish half of it. By the way all those dishes I can’t see it on the menu. So Janet the owner was really helpful and so nice to help us get all the orders we want. I really enjoy the food here. Definitely recommend it to friends and I’ll be back again!!!

Can you say HUGEPORTIONS?! Chinese food isn’t really on the top of my list as far as eating out goes. Fortunately, I think The Wok changed has changed my mind. My boyfriend and I ordered two dinner combinations… mongolian beef & beef with asparagus. Each combo came with chow mein, hot and sour soup(or you can choose egg drop soup), fried rice, a rangoon, and an egg roll. I couldn’t believe the amount of food we got for such a great price! We also got an order of potstickers. I was expecting to use the ‘spend $ 40 and get 10% off’ coupon but our total only came out to $ 32! Onto the food — I loved the flavor each dish had to offer. Although the mongolian beef had a spicy icon next to it on the menu, I didn’t find it spicy at all. The hot & sour soup is different than what I’m used to but not in a negative way. I will definitely be back!

Went back again and tried 3 different kinds of dishes this time, pretty authentic of Chongqing Style of food, I like it! Price is very reasonable, noticed most of the customers are tourists. Deserve to recommend to other friends who is traveling to Reno, too. :)

THIS. IS. FLAVOR. Straight Outta Chongqing! I’m glad the Wok is so out of my way, otherwise it would spell out certain doom for my already sad attempts at dieting. The portions are ginormous and the flavors are outta this world delicious… or at least outta this side of the globe. Occident, eat your heart out. For such a tiny place, the Wok has a pretty extensive menu made possible by a powerhouse kitchen that churns out orders with ease and speed. Having read up a little beforehand( Unilocal recon), my eyes glazed over the first few pages of standard Americanized fare and made a beeline to the back of the menu for their more authentic offerings. There’s an entire page worth of REAL Chinese food that could very well work as a standalone menu. Real flavor! Real heat! If Panda Express is the apex of quality Chinese for you, the regular front-page dinner combos will serve you fine… for everyone else that really wants a taste of what the Wok is about, look at the authentic options first! The«Chong King» flavors from the real menu bring the best aspects of Sichuan food; it’s spicy, hot, fresh, and fragrant. Hungry for all four, I went for the Pork Chop w/dry chili pepper served on a bed of scallions and onions. Easily one of my new favorite bites in town. The meat was perfectly cooked and came with just the right amount of fat to wake up your taste buds and enough spice to keep you on your toes. It’s a salty meaty delight that’s a one-way ticket to flavortown. The porkchop is definitely a solid option for those too scared to cross over into intestine or tripe territory. If these are the kind of nom-worthy eats that Chongqing has to offer, let me just book my flight to China right now… That’s not to say that they don’t do the standards well! The chicken lettuce wraps were a tasty and filling appetizer. The combo pan fried noodles were a great crunchy bite. The dinner combos come with a hefty amount of rice, chow mein, and your choice of a tried and true favorite. While I highly recommend the Chongqing entrees, the safe Chino-Americano staples don’t disappoint. The Wok most definitely offers up some of the best Chinese around by sheer virtue of being able to cook with real roots in mind. I will for sure be in Sparks a whole lot more often to tackle the rest of the menu one(or three!) plate(s) at a time.

…it’s Friday and the work week is over… you want to stay home and cook up some clean, vegan, stick-and-twig dish… but instead agree that having takeout one night won’t hurt anything. Yay! Once you’ve taken that step and decide on the Wok, it’s only a short jump to simply eat there! Lol This was only my second time here and it was worth the 15 minute drive to this part of town for what has to be one of the best values in better than average food. For this location, in a converted Wendy’s, it’s closer to 5 stars than 4. The dinner portions are so large that I was shocked to have leftovers — yep we should have split something… I love the egg drop soup — it’s well seasoned, rich and comes out quick. Our mains came out quick as well — real quick. The chow mien is flavorful enough that I go easier on the soy sauce than usual, the fried rice had a nice flavor, and the Kung Pao tasted like Kung Pao. Even though the KP was listed as spicy, the heat level was mild/medium — just right for me. The four staff we had contact with were pleasant and helpful. PS Since my fortune said,“become rich by enriching others,” the lucky numbers you should use are 31142597688 You’re welcome.

The Wok offers consistently great food, excellent service and large portions for small prices every time we’ve been. Last night my guy wanted Chinese, he suggested that we grab takeout from the Panda Express, «the cheap spot» closest to our house. I suggested that we drive a couple of extra miles and head over to The Wok. I won the argument(of course) but really it was a win for both of us. I think he’d agree. When you get there you will notice that the building is a remodeled Wendy’s in West Sparks/East Reno near Sak n Save and it very much looks like a Wendy’s. It’s definitely a «diamond in the rough» kind of place but worth a drive to that side of town. We’ve been a few times and the food is always fresh and delicious. Once there we decided to eat in instead of grabbing takeout. I was just getting over a little bit of a cold so the hot tea and hot soup sounded really great to me. I ordered the almond chicken dinner combo for $ 7.95 and he had the Kung Pao 9.95 chicken dinner combo. You should see how much food you get for that! My order doubled as my dinner and then breakfast for my guy the next day. Who doesn’t love leftover Chinese ?!! Starting with soup, your choice of egg drop or hot and sour, the entrée combo dinner also comes with an egg roll, cream cheese wonton, chow mein and pork fried rice. The egg drop soup is probably the best I’ve had, at least in a long time. The vegetables in the entrée and pork fried rice are fresh and crispy and not overcooked at all like at some places. The pork fried rice had nice sized little yummy morsels of pork. The sauces are all flavorful but not drenching and overpowering. My shining star almond chicken entrée was loaded with fresh crunchy almonds. Seriously, there was no skimping on the almonds on this dish(see photo)! It added a nice crunch to that delicious dish along with crunchy zucchini and waterchestnuts in with nicely cooked, actual bite sized tender pieces of chicken. Our service was friendly and quick from beginning to end. Waters were full and plates were removed quickly. My tea wasn’t quite as hot as I would have liked but it was very good and wasn’t a big deal. Along with the pot of tea and our two dinner combinations I think our entire bill for two people came to something like $ 23. Try to get all that at Panda Express«the cheap place». You certainly won’t get the quality, flavor or the service.

I was feeling under the weather and decided I really wanted some Egg Drop soup, so of course I turned to trusty Unilocal and they didn’t lead me astray. When you walk in you can tell that it used to be a fast food joint just from the set up however I think it helps you to realize how much effort they have really put in. I think its great that they took an old fast food joint because normally that woulnd’t happen. ANYWAYS on to the food because that’s what we all really care bout, lets be honest. Very Impressed with amount of food for the price. I got the dinner combo plate to go and it lasted me two meals. I went for the almond chicken as my main dish. It came with pork fried rice, chow mein, a crab star, egg roll AND soup. Talk about a meal! I was impressed with the chicken, thought it had great flavor! Mixed some of the rice in with the sauce and double yum. Not a huge fan of the noodles, they definitely tasted better the next day when they were cold, which is surprising. Eggroll and crab star decent, no complaints. The shining star of the meal was the egg drop soup! Its hard to find one that still has flavor because its such a light soup but this one sure did. Its their soup that will keep me coming back. This may seem like an odd thing, but I got really excited that they gave me a packet of sweet and sour sauce and hot mustard. I love hot mustard and usually don’t get it so that was a lovely surprise. Overall I’d go back for the soup and the deal you get. Not the best around but I love a good deal that can turn into two meals. I guess the broke college student still hasn’t left me.

Great restraunt! You would never know how nice this place is from the outside and surrounding area. Huge portions for a fair price. Yummy ingredients that are very fresh. Large hot n sour soup + Singapore rice noodle dish + veggie chow mein = $ 34 Very filling! Plenty of leftovers.

I’ve been here about five times now. Each time, the food has been fantastic. The portions are always the perfect size and the prices are reasonable. The wait staff, however, always seems like the last thing they want to do is serve. I can’t remember ever being greeted with a smile or anything more than a, «For here or to go?» I feel as though they become a little agitated if you take any longer than three minutes to look over the menu. Everything else, though, is great. I’ll keep coming back!

Another trip to this restaurant, this time we ordered an appetizer salt & pepper calamari. Ordered my favorite food the fried tofu & beef in spicy sauce, pork BBQ chow mein & the spicy wings. The salt & pepper calamari was very good. A perfect flavor between the salt and the pepper, the calamari were fried perfect, not too chewy at all. The tofu as always was so yummy! And the chow mein wasn’t oily at all not like some other Chinese restaurant food. The noodle had a great perfect texture, wasn’t too dry nor too soft. The wings were good. My husband & I love their food. We always go here if we want something different. A long drive for us but very worth it! The owner is nice and he always asked how is food, which was very good because meaning he do care about what customer want or expect and he try to make it better improvement. Also he made a suggestion about what we should order next time.

I don’t have Chinese food often, but when I do, I hope that it’s good. I did and it was good! This little place took over a Wendy’s in a part of town that I don’t frequent much. At the northwest corner of Oddie(Odd Dee) and Silverada Blvd. As my dad and I walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated with menus and asked if we wanted a beverage. Hot Tea, my dad and I unanimously requested. It was a cold December day and ice tea wasn’t going to cut it! Inside the environment was pleasant. Not too noisy and felt warm. As we looked over the menu, we both decided on the Cantonese dinner for two. Our main dishes were Cashew and General chicken. Both were served hot, quick and tasted great! Service was good, friendly and abundant. — — — — — Bottom Line Yes, I will be coming back here again. It was an enjoyable experience.

I have eaten The Wok about 15 more times, since my last review, tried many more dishes. They have at least 100 dishes you can order including Specialty Chinese dishes, which according to Janet are the most popular. She insisted many times I try them, but nothing sounded appealing to me since, especially with the protein ingredients, just not my thing. She finally went 1 further and brought me boiled beef, it was definitely unique, but it wasn’t for me. Here’s my summary of my dining experiences, I think The Wok is a place where you find 1 or 2 dishes out of the 100+ that you like and you stick with them. Right now, there are 3 things on my list: 1. Hot Mustard(Real deal here) 2. Cashew Chicken(Luckily this is one of my favorite dishes) 3. Steamed Rice(100% consistent and perfect every time) Many of the dishes just don’t deliver for me, and many times, there’s too much oil and sauce in the dishes. One time I asked for Kung Pao Chicken, and I saw I wanted it SUPERSPICY, I said 10 out of 10, lots of whole peppers, LOTS, and I thought I was very clear. I got the dish and there was 2 whole peppers. I was very confused, Janet(who is awesome by the way) comes by and offered to remake, but I basically just wanted more peppers. I spiced up with the house made hot oil, which wasn’t very hot, mild to medium maybe. What’s strange is every time I have ordered this dish in the 20 plus years, I would say more times than not I would have in the past have a pile of uneaten peppers on my plate, because back when I couldn’t handle the heat. I would maybe eat one under my Professor’s direction that it kills the bad guys and then with a mouthful of rice, and barely get it down. There’s just many anomalies here, which are strange, and not consistent with my previous dining experiences, that you come to expect. Another one was 2 times my Kung Pao chicken had a sprinkle of peanuts(meaning hard to find) where again in my 20 years, peanut was a main ingredient, then another time I had this dish there with plenty of peanuts. I find many inconsistencies here, so I can never rate it higher than 4, and I was a fan, but I am quickly losing my fandom the more dishes I try. I am not sure if they changed chefs, or what’s going on, but something feels different. My last dish I got was Orange Beef, and this is listed as Chef Specialty, again in my 20 years plus experience of enjoying Chinese Food, Chef Specialties usually are the WOW zone of restaurants, those are the HOOKYOU dishes, and this dish for me just fell flat. At the end, there was a pile of oil on my plate, as usual. The dish was so rich, it needed something to cut the richness, a side of vegetables or maybe more acid from the orange. Also, not an Orange Beef aficionado, but not much orange flavor either. I am not sure, what was missing, but I feel like a professional chef would instantly know and be able to fix the dish. I wouldn’t order the dish again as it was yesterday, and that disappoints me when I ordered my first item of the Chef Specialty list. Another favorite dish of mine over the years is Triple Delight, consists of Shrimp, Chicken and Beef, here they call it Family Delight and it adds Pork. Another very disappointing dish, I would say 2 stars. My dad was in town and order a seafood trio, and I could say I liked his dish more. Again, you are talking super sauce every time too. Last gripes is the music is radio music, and it would be much better, to have something more soothing and relaxing than hearing the teenage radio crap. I can understand if 60% or more of you clientele is under 25, but in this case the clientele is mostly older, and the music is just obnoxious. Also yesterday the place was very cold and drafty no matter where I went. I like Janet, and wish this place well, at the current time if I feel like Chicken Cashew, Rice, and Hot Mustard, I know where to go!

I’m so glad I listened to the reviews. This is really close to my work and a-mazing food. It is fresh and flavorful. I can’t wait to try more dishes, I love the separate«authentic» menu too. I tried the salt and pepper calamari($ 8-$ 9) O.M.G. I’ve never had any chinese«salt and pepper» anything before, but this… I can’t stop craving it. The slices of onions are not overpowering, but spicy and soft with a bit of crunch. Combined with the crispy salty calamari rings and then the fresh cilantro. I will probably never tire of this dish. I then tried the walnut shrimp dinner combo. LOTSOFFOOD, it was $ 14.95 or so. But with actual pork fried rice, and actual chicken chow mein. A lot of chinese combos use«brown rice», that barely fried, nothing extra in it and then the chow mein here is also chok full of other stuff besides noodles. You really can’t beat this combo deal. The walnut shrimp was crispy, not overly breaded, with super fresh shrimp and a not too sweet sauce with not burnt walnuts. Burned walnuts, I’ve encountered those a lot in this dish. Oh, can’t forget about the egg flower soup… while it is fairly neon yellow colored, it is not just for show. There was a lot of flavor packed into the broth, so that I didn’t even use soy sauce. And, just so you know, they actually give you the soup with to-go orders, as most everywhere else makes you forfeit that part when you want to eat at home in your jogging pants in bed watching grey’s anatomy on netflix instead of needing to put on real pants to sit in a booth. I think the fact I came here literally a little over 24 hours later, and ordered the same exact meal testifies that this place is . I’m so stoked this is close to my work, I will probably be here once a week from now on. So expect more pictures LOL Some more pros are that the inside is clean and freshly remodeled, it doesn’t feel stale, grimy or dingy at all. In fact the day I was in, the sun was shining and it was bright and cheerful. The service was excellent, and also above the norm for what the reputation is for this type of cuisine. I also appreciate the different lunch and dinner combos, with the offerings clearly listed and the prices. So if you aren’t as hungry, you can opt for the smaller lunch portion, but can also order dinner instead. Bottom line is this place doesn’t skimp on the quality of the food they offer. It is a clean chinese restaurant with friendly servers.

We came in with a huge party, no reservation(13). By the way, we didn’t plan on this, people just showed up! So please make a reservation. They didn’t blink an eye, and got us setup right away. We worked out an ordering system(group 1, group 2, etc), which made it easier to order and to pay. They had no issue with separate checks which is, wow! A convenient way to order is the Cantonese Dinner for Two. $ 13.95 per person, soup: choice of hot & sour or egg drop soup, Appetizer: egg roll, pot stickers, and crab cheese puff, rice: pork fried rice, entrée select one for each person. They also have nice hot fresh made Chinese Mustard. Go try them out!

I didn’t know what I wanted to eat for dinner so I checked out Nearby places on my handy dandy Unilocal app and decided to give this place a try. I was really impressed with how nice it looked inside! I quickly was seated and given a regular menu as well as an Authentic Chinese Menu. One side was written in English, the other side in Chinese characters. I finally decided on the combination pan fried noodles to eat in(regular menu) then ordered spicy chicken(bone — in) and tripe in spicy sauce to go(authentic menu). My noodles came out quickly and were steaming hot as you can see in the picture. The portion was huge and I only ate about half of it. It was difficult to stop but I knew I would be miserable if I finished the whole thing. The servers were extremely friendly and courteous. They brought me a container for my leftovers then brought my to-go order. When I went up to pay the woman at the counter(who also served me) asked me to let her know how I liked my to go orders. She gave me a card with their contact info which is also a punch card. You get 1 stamp for every $ 10 spent. After you spend $ 90 you get $ 10 off. When I got home I had to try a little bit of the spicy chicken and the tripe. The tripe came with steamed rice which was great because, even though I only ordered a spicy level of 2, the tripe was really spicy and I needed the rice to cut some of the heat. Both dishes had a similar or possibly identical spicy sauce but the meat made the difference. The chicken was tender and juicy and was served plain with cucumber spears. I tossed the chicken in a tablespoon or so of sauce and it was delicious. The sauce included chili oil and Cilantro in addition to the chili flakes. Based on the service and the dishes I tried I would definitely put this as one of my favorites in the area.
