One of the best parts about living in the Reno area is the plethora of quality Mexican restaurants. I had gone to Agave before and wasn’t too impressed; so I came across a DealChicken for Plaza Garibaldi and then found out afterwards that it was the same location as Agave. I wasn’t too surprised that it had a new name/owners. However, I wouldn’t say that this was much better. The deal was for 4 tacos(meh, pretty bland) guacamole(tastes like out of a jar) and a pitcher of margaritas(tastes like a straight out of the bottle mix and there must have been like 2 shots of tequila in the entire pitcher, I got more of a sugar rush from the mix than a buzz from the alcohol). It wasn’t much food, so we ordered a tamale and a Chile Relleno. It was just okay. Plus, the place was completely empty and some dj was playing loud dub step music OVER the Mexican music. I will say that the staff was nice and friendly. Not too impressed. I hope it was an off-night for them and wish them success, but I’ll keep my business at Si Amigos, Antojitos, and Mi Ranchito for quality mexican food.

Excellent value! Yummy beef and chicken tacos, the fried ice cream was the bomb! Authentic Mexican food, not Texmex or Mexican American food. Will return!!!

Comedy of errors. I wasn’t laughing. I come here for lunch around 2 on Saturday afternoon. Head over to the bar area where there is only 1 other gentleman. Lady behind the bar stares at me. Doesn’t greet me. I ask for the menu and an iced tea. She disappears to what I can only imagine is to brew the tea from scratch. Five minutes later she comes back slides over the iced tea, and chips and salsa. No sugar for the iced tea, which I find odd… don’t say anything because it is probably my own stupid fault for ordering iced tea at a Mexican restaurant. I look over at the menu and decide that Arroz con Pollo sounds good, so I order that and a side of guacamole with chips. Lady leaves and I never see her again. Ten minutes go by, my drink has been empty for a while, and a couple is waiting at the hostess station without anyone greeting them. A young girl shows up and sits them at the bar. Hands them the menu and looks over at me and asks me if I’m ready to order. Seriously? I tell her I already have, but I would like a refill on my drink. I ask for a coke this time. She leaves… A few teenagers start noisily setting up a DJ booth. They’re planning a party to celebrate a kid’s first communion. I finish my coke and start waiting once again for someone to pay attention, and hopefully bring my food. I’ve been here for half hour already. I’m thinking this is getting worse by each passing minute. Food finally arrives. Hallelujah!!! Young girl drops it off, leaves. Wait, where is my guac? No guac. Oh well, hopefully it won’t be on the bill. I take two bites, and the food is actually pretty. Okay, maybe this will be a 2 star visit. Rap, hip-hop, whatever that crap is… starts blaring 20 decibels higher than needed for a room that size. The couple next to me says in unison what I’m thinking«What the fuck?!?». The gentleman who was already at the bar groans loudly. I let this go for a minute hoping these kids will notice us looking at them with disbelief in what is going on and turn the music down. It is two o’clock in the fucking afternoon. I walked in here because it say it was a restaurant not a fucking nightclub. I get up and walk over to the register because I’ve had it. Of course there is NOBODY fucking there!!! I feel like just walking out, but I don’t. The girl who brought me the food shows up and I tell her I need to leave because I can’t stand the noise. «Oh they’re just setting up for the party» she says non-chalantly. She finds my check and starts to ring me up, I see the order of guac and tell her she never delivered it so I shouldn’t be charged for it. By the tone in my voice she can tell I’m fuming. She apologizes for not bringing it, rings me up and tells me she gave me a 10% discount. I feel an aneurysm tingling my brain. As I am walking out, the couple is also leaving in the same sour mood. I doubt they will ever come back. I am positive I never will. Epic fail.

The food here was nice enough. I can recommend eating here if you’re in the area. My first trip here I came to try happy hour specials. I got two margaritas — they were two-for-one, not half price — and two $ 2 tacos. I posted a picture of the margaritas on Facebook and a friend noted they were small. So maybe they’re not the best happy hour special. The $ 2 tacos were great. Stuffed with meat. And they were tasty. I also came back to try their lunch buffet. For the longest time this place was La Piñata(remember the commercial jingle? «La la la. Piñata!) and they had a killer lunch buffet. This buffet wasn’t up to the level of La Piñata. The best part was the soup, which was not marked and I didn’t know what it was. It had some nice flavors. The worst was the taco. They had the meat in a big heated pot and it did not seem fresh plus it seemed to be soaking in grease or someting like that. Service was good.

This is where Agave used to be! I went to eat here on Thursday with my sister and my niece. We all got the same combination with some different choices. We got the # 10 combination called the Guadalajara, it is a taco, enchilada, and chile relleno. We all got different meat in the taco, my niece got chicken, my sister got shreded beef, and I got ground beef. My niece got a chicken enchilada, and my sister and I got the cheese and onion enchilada. We were all happy with our meals. All of the sauces were very tasty without being too hot. I do not usually order tacos but decided to order it because my sister had been there before and she said that they were very good. I was not at all disappointed ! I was plesantly suprised with the amount of stuffing in the taco! It was stuffed, and the shell did not shatter with the first bite, it held together all the way through the taco! The shell was nice and crispy and had an excellent freshly made taste! The service was excellent checking back several times for drink refills, right when we were ready for more to drink! They were there when we needed something but we did not feel like we were being watched. We will go back again! They said that they were in the process of making some changes to the menu. I look forward to seeing what they are!
