I used to love Great Basin. I shopped there for a little under a decade. However, now its just another hipster place that drains my wallet. When I needed a job they always hired the better looking option. And as I checked out I had to teach the girl that got my job how to use the register. They always discontinue stuff I like. And the refill dispensers are just getting ridiculous. Butter that costs 2.50 at Winco is $ 4.00!!! And while the line is around the corner everyone upstairs is laughing and playing and no one bothers to call for another checker. DONE. Sorry Nicole. It was a good run. I might sneak in for meat but its pretty well and over.

My people :). Love this place! Membership is $ 20 a year(I think). For that you get 10% off 1 trip per month, access to wholesale buying opportunities more, I’m sure. :Produce — local, organic, and excellent quality. :Meats — from local farms! Great variety. Yes it costs a lot — just eat less meat but eat the good stuff :) :Bulk: byob on so many things. Spices, vinegars, honey, shampoo — so much. :Ready made’s: from scratch soups, sandwiches & more :Juice bar! I haven’t really had time to explore all that the coop offers and I know there’s more but I hope you’ll skip Whole Foods & check out the coop next time you shop!

We were just visiting Reno when we found this coop market. They have everything that’s important, great looking vegetables and freshly made juices and smoothies. We loved the idea that they come in a mason jar for a $ 1 deposit. They also offer a small variety of super tasty breakfast burritos with vegan and vegetarian options. We went back twice. There are also small salads, fresh bread, etc available. Great store!

Buy groceries local! I’ve been a member for years. No membership required to shop here. The good — Vast selection of local and organic products — Friendly staff — A Pettit Market — Support local business — If you’re grilling your own @ Pignic(just across the street) & you forgot something… just pop into the coop and they should have what you need. — Members get additional saving via in store or direct mail members only coupons. — Great selection of local wine & beers — Moderate selection of grab-go items– a few are from Deluxe. — Fresh squeezed juices at the juice bar. The not so good — Parking is a bear in that part of town — While they have a lot of products; I can never get my full shopping list done. I still have to go to a large supermarket after a visit to the Coop to complete my list. — It’s a bit spendy but I waste less food so maybe it’s a wash. Sure I’ll shop there again. It’s a goal of mine to eat local!

Bought a sandwich for my husband who took a bite and saw half of a cockroach stuck in the sandwhich. Health department definitely needs to pay this company a visit. This place is disgusting and seriously needs to be sanitized inside out.

The smells! I no longer want to wait and do 1.5−2 weeks worth of shopping at once. The short drive to the co-op is so worth it. It smells devine in here. While it’s a small footprint of a building, they’ve got a little of everything and a FANTASTIC produce and meat selection! Don’t forget to go upstairs for your wellness needs. Parking lot is small, but a great indication of how busy it is inside. Not a problem. Juice bar?! Why you so tasty?!

The co-op’s food is as friendly as her service. Color coded tags for local, gmo free, etc. Plus house made fresh juice. Try the fresh coconut milk, way too good!

What a great neighborhood market! The produce looks fresh and they have a pretty nice variety of food stuff, and an assortment of safe cleaning products, free from harmful chemicals. Upstairs, which I haven’t ventured up to, is the wellness center. I was told they have aroma therapy, vitamins and other health related goodies… I hope to be back in a couple days. I found the place through the search feature on Unilocal, and discovering that it was just walking distance from the Worldmark, I was quite excited to see it was more than just a market. A beautiful and abundant Edible Garden is taking over the front of the store… it needs some attention, and a bit unruly! I just needed ½ and ½, but what I found was a great example how people are taking control, offering local, organic and fresh food for people wanting something healthier and tastier. I found what I came for, and happily willing to pay the $ 2 deposit on a glass container(as opposed to a carton that would end up landfill material)…I’ll be back to get a second look and bring back my bottle.

Went to get bread & avocados here to make sandwhiches. It is a small place, doesn’t have a lot of things I was interested in. They did have bread though, so I was Satisfied. When I got home, I made sandwhiches for a friend & I. The next thing I knew, my friend had thrown his sandwhich down saying there was a bug in the bread. I looked down, &YES. There were small little mites crawling on the bread! Totally grossed out. Won’t be going there again.

It’s an okay place. I wish that I could give it 5 stars but most of what they carry contains ingredients that I can’t eat like soy, wheat and tree nuts. I like to support local businesses whenever possible and wish that I could support them more by buying more items. They need to carry more items that are safe for folks like me with allergies to common foods. Their staff is always friendly and helpful.

Ohhhhh Great Basin Community Food Co-op… Oh how I LOVE you!!! From the moment I walked up to the property, I was hooked. You had me at «Edible Landscaping», and as I walked through the doors… I was a gonner! This cute little store grabs you from the moment you arrive, and says«That’s it… you’re here now, you belong to us!» The smell inside this store, when you first walk in, reminds me of home. The freshness, the herbs, the STUFF… I don’t know what it is about REAL natural stores. I can’t explain the smell, other then sheer heaven. And not all«natural» stores smell like this… take Whole Foods or Trader Joes for example. Nope, they only WISH they had it! LOL If you’ve never experienced it, you’re missing out! They have the most beautiful produce, and honestly the prices are not much more expensive then a regular grocery store. And the customer service here is nothing short of stellar! We were checking out the oyster mushrooms while one of the guys was stocking the veggies, and he noticed that the mushrooms weren’t as «fresh» as he liked(they looked gorgeous to us!), so he went in back to see if there were any more. He came out with a box that had some in it, but he still wasn’t too happy with them(again, they looked beautiful), so he reduced the price down on them for us, to 45 Cents per pound. AREYOUKIDDINGME??? Wow… they were beautiful, and he gave us one heck of a good deal! I couldn’t hope to get normal button mushrooms in a regular grocery store for that price… and here I was getting to have Oyster mushrooms for the first time, for so cheap? Let’s talk about the local eggs… and the fact that they have ginormous goose eggs! I’ve never had one, but I’m thinking that I need to go get goose eggs, ham steaks(or their bacon, which was really good!), fresh asparagus and potatoes. I’m seeing a highly tasty breakfast in my not-so-distant future! Yeah… between the fact that this is an organic store, the smell inside of it, the people that work there… everything this place stands for and is… we’ll be making this a regular stop for us from now on!

This is the newest location for the local food co-op — the building is real cool! I’m not sure if they’ll be able to stay here if they need to expand, but that’s something to worry about in the future. The location isn’t great, as far as access is concerned, but the location is still central in Reno. Great start for finding ‘buy local’, organic, Kombucha, etc.(you get the picture…) in the Reno area. As a co-op, you can become a member and share in monthly deals.

Nice little organic grocery store near where I work. Makes a convenient and quick stop when I need a little something to eat. May have to come back and try it for groceries! The workers were all friendly and happy to help. Store is small and easy to navigate.

What a gem you have here in downtown Reno! I came here to attend a Unilocal event in their upstairs room, but couldn’t resist a little pre-dinner shopping. I was so impressed with the thoughtful selection contained in this gem of a co-op. At first I thought they didn’t have any personal care items – but they do! The personal care items are upstairs! I was absolutely delighted with their selection of ginger items. I’m on a major ginger kick and they have ginger beer, pickled ginger, crystallized ginger, and the piece de resistance: Ginger Syrup. My people! Don’t question it – just buy it. Put it on pancakes. Or waffles. Or ice cream. My heavens, yes! Ice cream! Or…pour a skosh on your plate and taste a little that way. You’re welcome. Get to it!

Reno once had a co-op. it was on broadway off of wells and it was called the Washoe Zephyr co-op. it was small and well… kind of depressing. but that was back in the nineties when reno was a little more provincial and clueless. eventually the co-op closed and for quite a few years there was nothing of the sort in the biggest little city. in the meantime, my frustration would grow seeing amazing co-ops in much smaller places(nevada city, arcata/eureka, ashland, flagstaff) and bigger ones(tucson, boulder, albuquerque). why could not reno support a healthy food and wellness culture? i attributed it to the demographics of nevada(las vegas is immense and still without one) more aimed at gamblers and unhealthy living. fast forward a bunch of years and the embers began to burn again with two small co-op spaces and finally, we arrive at the newest location of the washoe zephyr food co-op. its a testament to how far reno has come in the space of a few short years to see our co-op grow from 400 to 4000 square feet. many members expressed their faith in the co-op ideas and principles by loaning into existence the money needed to retrofit this beautiful building in a very nice location downtown. i am happy everytime i walk into the co-op. the employees and volunteers are nice, the produce always look good, the place is clean and plans for the future continue to evolve including a café and hot bar. There are bigger co-ops out there but considering what reno once was, i tip my hat to the folks who dream big and help make the biggest little city just a little more grown up. good work!

Let food be thy medicine… and that food should be from our very own and bountiful food shed here in the Northern Nevada area! Great Basin Community Food Co-op, or Co-op for short, is the best place to get your hands on all the greatest local grub we can provide, and gives you a chance to get to know the growers too! When I first heard of the co-op, I have to admit, I totally thought it would be a bunch of repurposed grocery shelves, lined with great products, presented very poorly. BOYWAS I WRONG! This place has all the polish and panache of a national grocery store, offering many of the same products, but with a spotlight on locally grown and locally made products in all categories. Not sure what’s local? Just look for a green tag! It’s that simple. From soap to celery, if it’s a local product, the price tag is green. And green means go! Pretty soon they’ll be ramping up their prepared foods program so we can all get our lunch on. And if you haven’t seen the community space upstairs, it’s awesome. They do painting classes and yoga there currently, but it’s available for private events too. Community is a common theme at the co-op, from the employees, to the vendors, to the members and customers who keep this place open. The co-op is a great addition to our community, and I am excited to see where they GROW from here.

Need a craft beer or a kombucha? Need some organic carrots or almond milk? Every time I’m in Reno I do. Located within walking distance to all the casinos, this little organic grocery store is always a must stop spot for me. Skip the crappy food downstairs, stock up at the co-op, and bring the party up to your hotel room. This shop is a foodie burner’s paradise.

It’s hard for me to do a review of the Great Basin Community Food Co-op. I’m not your normal Co-op type of guy. I’m not some stuffy yuppie type looking to be a snob about my food. I’m not some kooky granola type that thinks we need to live barefoot and hug our local cows. I’m someone who is realizing late in life I have been showering my body and my digestive tract with chemicals for way too long. So I’ve targeted the co-op to give me a little bit of sanity while I am traversing this crazy mixed up world in which we live. Mainly I go here for drinks while downtown. They carry the bragg stuff and for some reason I have bought into the«apple cider vinegar» cult. Their veggies look so good and fresh I have been tempted to buy, but I’m not the shopper of the home, my wife is. I only get the option of discretionary purchases like the flax snack I bought. It was a bit better than cardboard with pizza flavoring shaken onto it, but it was still better for me. They also have by the lb purchasing of some healthier soaps and shower supplies. Again this is about how many chemicals we dump on our body, and why in the world do we need to buy so many plastic bottles just to throw them away? I like the refill idea for the environmental savings alone. Cool funky building that seems to have found the right tenant this time. So don’t be afraid and head in here. All the people are friendly and wont look at your leather shoes like you just ran over a baby seal with a Hummer. They will actually brighten your day.
