Food was okay. Service was HORRIBLE!!! Our waiter MARIO was a disaster!!! It took 30 mins for 4 drinks, 30 mins to get Mario’s attention to take our order then he had the audacity to rush us on our dinner selection. Another 45 mins wait for our appetizer &1 hr 27 mins for our dinner to arrive. After all the waiting Mario messes up our dinner order, thus making us wait another 25 mins to finally bring our dinner. It was exhausting!!! The chef’s wife came to our table not to apologize for the agonizing wait but to give us an excuse, the reason it took so long was because the diners all arrived at the same time. No sorry, no acknowledgment of poor customer service, nothing. I will never patronize this dump ever again… 1st& last time. HORRIFIC!!!

As of March 2nd they are no longer open. Just read today that there will be a 7 story apartment building built there in the near future.

I would give 4 stars for food and 0 for service that is how I ended up with 2 stars. Saturday night the place was busy but there were empty tables. Waiter came with drinks and asked for our order we ordered baked clams and fried calamari and said we needed more time for main course. He came back before the starters came when we told him we needed more time, he said I don’t want to hear you complaining where’s my food. The night went downhill from there. The clams were great calamari was better then most places. The main course I had veal which was tender and tasty my wife had fried seafood platter and she enjoyed it. Food came right out after they cleared the first set of plates so there was no wait. As we sat staring at a few empty tables we wondered what the rush was, we decided to skip dessert. I probably won’t go back I hate to be rushed

Had a party here last night for myself and my two aunts as well as 19 of my closest family members. The service was nothing short of spectacular. We had our own room and wait staff who were absolutely amazing. Not one issue with the waiters at all they did a brilliant job. The salad was a very nice size, the fried calamari was cooked to perfection and not tough at all. The pasta, I love my pasta and I am very picky with it, was perfect! Al dente just the way I like it and the sauce was a marinara sauce that was quite tasty. For main meal we had the option of chicken franchise, chicken parm, shirmp orregonata, filet of sole broiled. I had the chicken franchise that was very good but lacked lemon. A little lemon sprinkled on top of it and it was excellent. I tasted my dads chicken parm and again it was excellent. Hear say said the sole and shrimp was also delicious. The cake they supplied was also off the charts! They treated us like royalty which is very important in Italian restaurants. A lot of people on here knock the décor that it is old and outdated, personally I kind of like that. The place Is an old movie theater from the 30s and 40s, I like the nostalgic feel they have in there. The only issue I had with this place was the bathrooms. Not enough of an issue to lose a star but I think it should be maintained more often than it was. All in all a very enjoyable experience. If you are looking at reviews to book a party there I highly recommend it. If your looking for great service and food this is the perfect place. Thank you Joe A’s for an unforgettable night I won’t soon forget!

This husband & wife Italian restaurant provided Excellent atmosphere, food and service for the twenty members of my family after my wife’s burial service nearby. My entire family are experienced travelers and diners. We all were delighted with The personal care & service we received from Joe, his wife, Marie and our server.

Some of the best Italian food I have ever eaten! They have a nice sit down area but also have party rooms. The staff was great and accommodating for the larger parties I have had there. One minor thing: whenever there are dj’s in the party rooms, it can be a bit noisy and distracting. Otherwise the place is very nice!

Was there yesterday for a 1st birthday celebration. The firs course consisted of baked clams which were delicious, then the calamari was served also good as was the salad. My choice for the main course was the Chateaubriand. It came out cooked to death and I asked my server if he could bring me another piece as he had not asked how I wanted it prepared when placing my order. He said he would check. The owner came out and introduced herself and asked what was wrong. I explained that my meal was inedible; she stated there was no more available and left. No sorry, no substitution(as they were serving fish and chicken as well). I eat out often and this was one of the worst customer service experiences I ever encountered; especially from an establishment that has been around as long as they have. No reason to return as there are many good restaurants in the area.

Its been a year since I’ve been here, so I cannot remember the food that much but I don’t remember saying anything bad about it or anything amazing about it. Which is why I only give 3 stars, otherwise it would make me very biased. What I remember. Very classy place, very attentive friendly staff, very clean, slow paced. Some people say its out dated but I didn’t get that vibe at all. I would go back but I’m the kind of person that it takes a lot for me to return to a place twice. I’m also the type of person that likes to try out new places I’ve never been. All in all, if you’re on the fence I would go. Someone said its loud? It’s an Italian joint we’re all loud… to me thats a sign of a good restaurant.

We had our wedding reception there, great prices and more food than our guests could eat — they actually came out with a platter of whole prime rib steaks after serving and offering seconds! Sure, the décor is a bit dated, but that’s not what we went there for. We have eaten there at least 2 times a year since then, and the service can be a bit slow so don’t go there hoping to be out in 20 minutes(I’ve never waited 3 hours for food, but an hour+ might be more close to a typical meal for two). Staff has always been courteous and polite, and the food is very good.

The ambiance is superb; very old world, but the food is mediocre, the service is friendly but slow and it is unbelievably loud! The owners are the warmest people EVER but I’d rather have arm’s length service with GOOD food.

Honestly, I have no idea why this place has so many good reviews! Seriously!?! I guess I should mention that I’ve only been here(on numerous occasions for YEARS) for private functions in their back room. An industry group I am part of has all of our meetings here. The décor is seriously outdated, the service is a little slow and, frankly, a bit dopey. The pasta and sauces are tasteless(and watery!). The eggplant Parmesan is disgusting… a paper-thin slice of eggplant breaded and fried with a large amount of cheese and a watery pasta sauce. Ick! I have nightmares about this place.

We went to JA earlier today(Saturday) for a Mother’s Day late lunch/earlier dinner, as it’s one of my mother-in-law’s favorite places for Italian. I had read the reviews and so I did not expect a five-star experience. Nonetheless, I’m a fan of old-school NY Italian eateries and am always up for adventure, and so I went with an open mind. Well, the service was not exactly what I’d been warned about – it was worse. A request for a glass of wine was met with a snarl from our waiter, who was less than attentive the entire meal(as was the rest of the wait staff). We had to ask for water; we had to ask for bread. The eggplant rollatini tasted like it was fried in old oil. I went with the waiter’s suggestion for my pork chops to be cooked medium; instead, they arrived as tough as shoe leather. You would I think that with the 18% gratuity tacked onto the healthy check for our 12-person party that the service would be even slightly better, but not a chance. My advice to anyone considering this place: Stay home!

15 party for a lunch. This is a family owned and ran restaurant and it shows. The wife of the owner came to say hello and I thought that was a good touch. Food was not spectacular but it was very fresh and I enjoyed the ingredients especially in the simple yet very tasty salad we all had. I would definitely recommend this for a large party event.

This place is hit or miss. I have gone where it is fantastic and I have gone and have gotten major food poisoning from a stuffed clam. When it is good, it is very good, when it is bad, watch out!!!

Came here tonight for dinner for the first time. Why I waited so long to try this place out I have no idea. The minute I walked in I was happy. The place is HUGE, it used to be an old movie theater actually. The room we ate in was stunning and had these old photos all over the walls of famous people that have dined there. Very cozy but elegant atmosphere. I started with the baked clams which were great. I had the baked ziti for an entrée which was good, but a little too much mozzarella on top for my taste. But I guess that’s baked ziti for you. But the homemade Italian cheesecake we had for desert? MINDBLOWING. I have never tasted cheesecake like that before in my life. Service is very warm and friendly. I will definitely come back and I’m excited to try something else.

This is definitely not the place to come for what has become known as «modernist cuisine.» If you visit this 62-year-old restaurant, you’ll be offered linguine in clam sauce, chicken cacciatore, and a long list of other staples of New York Italian food circa 1950. Eating here, you might feel like you’re on a movie set; the interior is certainly quite stunning. The food was definitely kind of «meh,» although I’ll concede that this kind of cooking might be exactly what you’re looking for if you’re in the right kind of mood. We had some baked clams to start, and they were plenty good. My main dish was a huge chunk of broiled salmon, which can best be described as generic broiled salmon. It was served with sides of overcooked limp string beans and cylindrical tater tots. Wines by the glass? There are two whites and two reds to choose from; they were identified only as pinot grigio, chardonnay, merlot and something else(cabernet?). I got the pinot grigio and survived the experience.

JA’s I believe was known more for their parties(Bridal Showers, Baptasims, Baby Showers), at one time… I’ve been to JA a couple of times for showers… It was ahlie ago, so I do not remeber too much… But, I’ve also been to JA’s, for a regular diner. I dont like the décor at all… As far as the food goes, I’ve only had pasta, and salad.(vegetarian). I’m not a big fan of cheese ravioli’s(I prefer a veg filing), but they serve great ravioli’s here… Their manacotti, is also very good. Light and fluffy… They will give you a side of vegatables with your dish… The spinach and string beans are very good… They are accomdating. One of their specials of the day was Blackened Salmon. My mother asked to substitute the salmon, for swordfish, and they had no problem with her request… I The waiters are very old skool… I don’t think, I would ever see a waitress in this place… I am not sure, I would drive out of my way to go here. But, If you are in the area, you might want to step inside. The service is good
