Love this place! Found it when we moved in to Rego Park several years ago. The interior of the restaurant is nice, they have booths as well as tables and a bar by the entrance. What I like about them is their food, the avocado salad is amazing and the dressing even more so. The fish is always fresh(every time I’ve ordered, anyway), and serve pretty fast, even pick ups and deliveries, which is what I do most of the time. Their pricing is good too, as well as this appetizer(I forgot the name), served in a big she’ll with crabs and caviar etc. Definitely recommend this place.

Had dinner here with the family one time. The food was good and was prepared quickly. For four people, we ordered a sushi boat for two, a chirashi bowl, and a unadon bowl. It was slightly more pricey than the other budget sushi places in the area, but the ambience felt more upscale. They had a bar in the front entrance area, traditional low tables in the middle, and regular tables in the back. Quite a lot of seating area, combined with quality food, makes this a place to visit more often! Having alcohol available at the bar is a plus not commonly seen at sushi restaurants!

We came to Bamboo Ya for lunch after sloshing through slush and traversing through mountains of snow from #smowmaggedon2016, but the tranquil restaurant inside immediately quieted us, as did the steaming cups of hot green tea that were proffered moments after we sat down. The inset tables were an attractive seating choice, but the unwelcome thought of having to yank off our dripping snow boots ushered us to a regular table instead. We both sprung for the special lunch bento boxes, which sounded like a great deal — $ 8.75 for an entrée, rice, a California roll, spring rolls or shumai, and a soup or salad. I got the tofu teriyaki bento box, which came with large cubes of lightly battered tofu that bore a strong resemblance to agedashi tofu, except these had warm teriyaki sauce spooned over the top and a bed of steamed broccoli below. I loved that the sauce wasn’t too thick nor too sweet, which is a common complaint I have about most teriyaki sauces. The California rolls were standard and the spring rolls were just a shade subpar, with a thick skin that got slightly gummy on the inside but tasted a lot better after sweeping it through the sweet chili sauce it came with. Twenty minutes later, our bento boxes were empty and we were both making contented noises at our table. If all of that sounds like a lot of food(which it was), I would recommend that you spring for the regular lunch specials, which come with just the entrée, rice, and soup or salad for a slightly lower price. Dark furniture, clean lines, and cool light accents like the pendant lighting that hung over the tables lent Bamboo Ya a sleek and almost modern appeal. We were intrigued by the chalkboard listing of happy hour prices on our way out, especially when we noticed happy hour starts at 3 pm here(hurray for earlier weekend celebrations!). Will definitely be back!

Bamboo Ya is the best sushi spot in all of Queens, hands down! Sushi here is ALWAYS in great quality and the prices for the whole menu is very cheap in my opinion, considering the neighborhood. Two people can have an entire meal and get be full for under $ 20! I’ve never had a bad experience here whether it be the actual food or the service, and that’s saying a lot coming from me. I’ve brought many friends and family to this spot and it has yet to disappoint. I’m very sad that I moved away from the neighborhood but I will always go back just for this place! HIGHLYRECOMMENDED!

I wish I would give zero stars but there’s no option, I want to sushi to be delivered to my house I was waiting for an hour and nobody showed up and I called to find out what’s going on with my order, The lady told me she canceled my order, I think to have to learn English and be more professional how to talk with the customers never again

I live in the area and have been looking for a good sushi restaurant. I found Bamboo Ya and I have to say that I am quite pleased with the service and the food. The atmosphere is pleasant and the waiters are pretty attentive. Focusing on the food, they offer traditional rolls and specialty rolls. I’m a bit more fond of what they do with their special rolls. Many of the specialty rolls have some combo of cream, avocado. Frankly, what food isn’t better with avocado? It’s very good food with a reasonable price. I was able to have a full appetizer and lunch special while only spending $ 20. For those who are in the Rego Park/Forest Hills area, this is the best sushi restaurant since«Best #1 Sushi» in my opinion.

I live around the area so this is my go to spot when I don’t feel like putting in the effort to cook or am looking for a spot to grab some healthy food after work. The restaurant has your traditional table and chair seatings in the back but the front has several Japanese style settings where you’re not allowed to wear shoes in the booth. It has a really nice ambiance to it that just appeals to me as opposed to sitting in general setting. My servers for all the times I’ve been there has been nothing short of pleasant and courteous. They have some friendly Indonesian waitresses who like to chat with their guests. :) My usual order is the Sushi Love boat or Dragon boat and Spicy tuna but an edamame to start off the meal. Nothing special about the edamame but the presentation were a very appealing arrangement for all of their sushi orders. The fish taste fresh and doesn’t have the rubber texture to them. I haven’t had a bad experience with days old sushi as opposed to other sushi joint I’ve been to where you can almost immediately tell the sushi has been sitting there for a while. Prices aren’t bad at all but there are cheaper Japanese joints surrounding the neighborhood. A little pricier but I prefer the set up and food here more. Will definitely continue to revisit as long as the sushi stays fresh and the waitresses are still courteous.

i’m so critical of my japanese food and so is my girlfriend too. My pet fish died early on in my childhood. I’ll lick stickers off a subway station pillar, but I won’t accept bad sushi. Can’t go into details here, but look out for my spy photos of why this place is…

I used to like this place. They had good food and ok service. Lately, each experience with them is worse than before. Awful service in house. All Waiters have an attitude. Two different waiters came to take our order after we already placed it with the first guy. Some part of the order was forgotten on separate occasions. You are very likely to leave annoyed. Delivery was alright. Not good, just alright. They always forgot to add a side of spicy mayo and the delivery guys used to just come and thrust the bag into your hand and leave without saying a word(I tip on my card when placing the order. There’s never any cash in my wallet). Recently, there was a misunderstanding of some kind over two dollars, the delivery guy demanded money on top of what I’ve already paid, he did not speak English at all and kept shouting«two dollars» at me. When I called the restaurant, I was yelled at by somebody who did speak English, demanded that I pay extra two dollars for the spicy mayo(that they forgot to include, btw) because«I did not place my order right». Bottom line, even though the food is good, the service is beyond sub par. I will not be eating here again. P. S. I’m pretty sure they use the same batter for rock shrimp and fried ice cream.

This place is cute. The bar in the front always has a group of people around it and the bartenders are great. They have an area with low tables where you take off your shoes to eat. Maybe one day I’ll sit there… When I did go, me and my friends sat at the regular tables in the back. Our service was pretty good besides the point when the waitress’s hair went into my friend’s green tea when she was serving it. The food is really good. Tastes fresh. Love coming here for both lunch and dinner.

The sushi at this place is fresh and great quality. Each bite of raw fish is consistent with the last and the next. That means they’re definitely doing something right. I hate it when I go to a sushi place and you order something and its either too small or well nobody complains about too much usually. But I think its very important to have consistency in the thickness, freshness, coldness, and texture of your sashimi. I just love salmon, so I can’t really speak for the other types of fish, but their salmon is extremely good and each bite, whether it was a month ago or a next month, the taste is always the same. I love that. The prices are very reasonable, for the regular rolls, most of them are $ 3 a roll and for sashimi, its $ 1.20 a piece. The appetizers are really good as well. I like the décor of place, very new and trendy. They also have some booths, where you take off your shoes and sit in. Really gives you that Japanese feel. A great place to hangout with friends, or for a date. Great food and service for a good price. I will definitely be back.

This place is in the neighborhood, I’ve come here a few times in the past few years. Def. not my favorite sushi joint, but my sister wanted to come here today. The restaurant is not bad. It’s neat and the service is great. Today I had the miso soup, garden salad, which were both okay, the seaweed in the soup was clumpy and too chewy, neither I nor sis ate it. Then we had a couple of sushi rolls which were decent. My sister ordered the lychee Martini which she really liked, the original price for this drink was $ 9 but we were there for happy hour and so it was down to $ 7. I ordered an original mojito which tasted awful. I told the waitress and she was very nice about it and quickly changed it to another drink. Unfortunately I was not so adventurous to try another alcoholic drink in that establishment so I settled for a diet coke. Also, the crispy calamari and edamame were yummy. Along with the fried bananas and green tea ice cream.

I like the ambiance of this place and the seats. I read some of the other reviews but I think it might just be where they’re seated. We always like sitting in the private tatami tables. The food is not bad but some of the noodle soups are bland(ie: roasted duck noodle soup). The sushi is not bad but could be fresher. Also, their service is getting worse. There used to be a waiter(Steve, I think his name is and another woman I never got her name) and they were always friendly and got to know you and welcomed you back every time and also knew exactly what«extras» you would order(ie: spicy mayo, etc.). Now the waiters/waitresses don’t seem to really care.
