Best haddock in central pa. Salads are basic, but taste amazing. Sometimes the service is a little slow, but what’s the rush? Great spot.

The locals all seem to LOVE this place. I don’t see the draw. Been here a couple times; the food is passable, the service about the same, but nothing to write home about. One half is a bar area, the other half is a dining room. Locals rave about their salads which puzzles me — they couldn’t be plainer. Iceburg lettuce, some diced tomato, a sprinkle of other vegetables. A really awful salty oil dressing. Their signature item is fish & chips or fish sandwiches for lunch. Again, it’s all about local perspective. It’s fine if haddock gets your engine revving. For those of us who are aware that there are other types of fish out there — don’t waste your time. Seems that the local restaurants haven’t wrapped their heads around anything other than fried breaded haddock bricks. Service is typical of the Lewistown area. Waitresses are either grossly overworked or lack basic social skills. Probably a mix of column A and column B. They’ll get you in and out eventually, but don’t expect to be made to feel special or welcomed. Like I said, the food is passable. You have to eat, and I suppose this fits the bill.

Not been there for fried fish night, but got a haddock salad(friend recommended) and fries to go. The salad was good, though a bit plain. It has lettuce, pieces of fried haddock and a tartar salad dressing. Tasty, but could use some tomato and celery for texture in salad, as well as croutons instead of pre-packaged crackers. Salad was priced at $ 5.75 which was about right. Fries were not good. They seemed like they were baked, and were soggy and disappointing. Small fries were $ 2.35, but I wished I hadn’t ordered them. I would go back for dinner, and probably get a small haddock salad as an app, would like to try the pies.

We had trouble finding them with a GPS, because they are not in the GPS, and because Unilocal had a wrong address, putting them on 322 not old 322, and because they when called did not know what street they were on(!). It is that familiar and down home a place. The lowlights, are that the tables are sticky and the service is slow but ernest. The highlights are that they have an eccentric menu, and some of the food is ok to good. Some is not very good at all. Their crab cake reminded me of scrapple, probably not a good thing, but now that you think about it, true: meat+filling and fried. The fried fish is ok, but not great. The prices are cheap. It is a useful place to stop on the way between State college and Harrisburg and places south. I wish they were either closer or farther away. We will definitely go back, so it’s probably a 3.5 but 4 seems generous.

The place to go in Mifflin County for fried fish on Friday night. the full parking lot is proof! I haven’t had a bad meal here yet. Service can be a little slow but I think it’s because they’re usually busy.
