Peninsula Uniforms & Equipment

I been coming here off and on for about 2 years now. I have known this place but it was a little too far from my house to justified coming here. Sometimes though, I do come here due to the better reviews it has over the limited uniform stores in the San Francisco area.
The reason this store is «better» than other uniform stores is because there is not that much to begin with. Just because you are a better than the worst, does not mean you are good.
Also, this uniform store is located at a prime location for a uniform store. It’s in Redwood City, literally steps away from the San Mateo County jails, court houses, Redwood city PD, and not to mention CHP station. Every cop in San Mateo county basically comes to Redwood City because they have to go to the courts and jail here. So they are smart to open a uniform store here.
Now to get to my point. I came here for uniform and they almost always give you one size up or the model that no one wants/​not the best. Even though the other model is the same exact price.
When you work in the Bay Area and especially with a vest on, why would a uniform store give you a extra thick uniform when there a lightweight version for the same price. They do not ask you for input or suggestion. They just go and grab whatever «they» think is best for you and charge you for it. Most of the time they grab the most expensive ones so the store can make more money, but you can’t blame them.
When questioned, they just reply by saying «that’s what most of the agencies uses». I don’t care what other agency uses because I want something comfortable for me. I also did my research online and know exactly which version I want. But thanks for your input because I value what you have experienced while wearing these uniform on a daily basis with a vest. (sarcasm)
To sum it up, PU has the selection category working for them but do not let them decide on which uniform/​pants you are getting because it won’t be the best one for you. You decide.

So I’m about ready to join the police academy in March and I went here since it’s local to me and I wanted to see approximately how much my uniform would be. The lady there was super nice and as I got talking to a sheriff she went and individually priced each item that I would need. They have a list of things that you will need for the academy. Super nice and friendly. I’m going in today to get my boots. I’m so lucky to live so close to this place.

I’ve been visiting Peninsula Uniforms for over 25 years. Back when Peninsula was called Yorkshire Uniforms and when they had two locations. This one and one in San Jose on Meridian. But since I’m dating myself, the late 80’s also played host to two other uniform stores in the Redwood City area; Bricker Mincolla and Summit.
The other locations are memories now and theres a reason Peninsula (Yorkshire) faired the ebbs & flows of time. They’re customer service is par none when it comes to first responders gear. Quick, fast and in a hurry is their standard operating procedure.
I’m sure Peninsula Uniform will be around for many years to come.

Let me preface this review by saying I live easily an hour away from this shop, and there are at least four others closer to my home. My department uses Galls primarily, but on a tip from a co-​worker I came here. I was fed up with the train-​wreck operation I was forced to endure at Galls. If there were a shop on complete opposite side of the spectrum, and in a positive way, this is it.
So I’m actually waiting for my shirts as I type this. They actually said I could wait one hour for the tailoring of my shirt and pants. They’re adding all the custom striping, patches, zipper fronts, etc. One hour? Are you serious? I was used to waiting a month or longer at Galls, and of course when I would show up, it wouldn’t be ready, or would fit like it was designed for someone twice my size.
The customer service here is excellent. The lady helping me was very patient, showed me different options available within the specifications of my department, and was great about a few custom requests. Other shops I’ve been to, they either avoid eye contact with you, or their mind is someplace else… Not here.
If you live anywhere in the immediate Bay Area, north, south, east or west, point your car to this shop and never look back.
P. S. They have all SFPD uniforms, patches, gold buttons, etc.

Staff is extremely knowledgeable, helpful and efficient. This is my first need to visit a uniform shop, but I won’t go anywhere else. Great selection of clothing and equipment. Prices seem reasonable, though I don’t have much to compare them to.

Great store. Blows Galls out the water. Put $ 15 bucks of gas in your car and drive down here, you wont be sorry. They have an extensive selection of 5.11 clothing (BDU’s, TacLite pants, uniform shirts and pants, gloves, etc) in all colors. They carry most of the 5.11 Backpacks and bags, including the Rush 72 which for some reason is hard to find in stores. Again they have the bags in all the available colors, including Multicam. They have a lot of uniforms for most of the surrounding agencies, as well as for CSM Fire Academy and security guards. Badges, patches, holsters, duty gear, knives, and flashlights round out the selection. Best of all, everything is spot-​on manufacturer prices (aka same as online).

This is the place to go. By all means skip Galls (San Francisco) if you can. Peninsula Uniforms did everything I wanted and when they called me all of my items were ready before the due date unlike Galls…

Staff was very helpful and did there best to accommodate my request since I work as a Costume Designer and not being licensed in law enforcement I couldn’t buy my heart’s desire. They did provide options and helpful hints. They were to the point the location is small but has what you need. Make name plates on the spot. Will be back if I ever need uniforms for another film.

Great staff… very knowledgeable and helpful. Prices are right on for solid brands like 5.11, which they have a huge selection of clothes and bags. If they don’t have it they can order it and it’s a pretty quick turnaround.

Have been coming here for years and always gotten great, personal and attentive service. Selection expanded when they took over the storefront next door a few years ago, and they have everything I need for uniforms and accessories.

I wish I could come here more often but they are a bit out of the way for me. Unlike other uniform stores (galls, summit, etc), they actually realize the customers time is valuable and often will tailor the shirts/​pants while we wait. That is a huge plus. They also have some hard to find things such as duty bags that are embroidered.

Came in for CERT polo shirts, very helpful staff. Extensive selection of 5.11 clothing (men’s sizes only). They do their own embroidery and can make basic alterations while you wait.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. They advertise having medical scrubs, and even before I angrily walked out, saw that they have it plastered on their window too. I was pissed that I wasted my time driving down to redwood city only to get a, «no, we don’t have any.» !!! Why would you advertise that then? If you’re in need of police officer/​government uniforms, this is definitely your place, but for medical scrubs, it’s a no-​go.

Picked up three sets of my work uniform here. They were able to tailor them on the spot, so while I ambled down the street and sipped tea at Petes, my entire uniform was prepped, saving me time and gas of a return trip.
Staff was helpful and friendly. Couldn’t ask for a better experience!

Been coming here since day one and I’m still called by my first name. Whenever i needed anything this is the place! You can come in here pick out a uniform and get it altered and pic it up the same day. Its small but that doesn’t matter. They still have everything.

In order to outfit yourself for the coming ZombieWar, this is a great place to purchase your BDUs, boots, knives, flashlights, holsters, etc.

This store provides police, fire, security and medical clothing and footwear, and assorted equipment.
If you need something for your particular field, they will help you find it or order it for you. Its not a very big store, but for your basic job necessities with boots, uniforms, shoe shine stuff and accessories, it works. Peninsula has a good selection of gear particularly for those involved in law enforcement. So stop on by.
