Have been coming here since I was a little girl, and now it’s my daughter’s favorite place to stop by in the mornings before going to school. Best Mexican bread in Redwood City! You get there early in the morning and you get it freshly baked out of the oven, so yummy!!! It’s tradition in my family to get our bread here! Especially now with this cold weather, we enjoy our bread with a nice hot chocolate la abuelita. Highly recommend Panaderia Michoacan! Can’t compare to any of the bakery’s nearby, it’s a little treasure in Redwood City!!!

I love this place! The only down side is there stuff is so good that often times if you don’t go early they don’t have much left. It’s cash only. I avoid going there because I could eat their pan dolce every damn day!

I go here for the Mexican pastries baked fresh everyday. The good stuff does go fast. My faves are the ginormous palmiers and the pink flaky one filled with custard. My mouth is salivating just thinking about them… The place is located in an industrial part of Redwood City with it’s rows of auto body and repair shops. It’s not like the newly polished downtown… it’s more«urban/industrial.» But don’t be scurrrred… just bring a friend. :) Like Alfonso said… their authenticity gets 5 stars from me. I speak very little Spanish but I’m able to communicate with the staff just fine. Prices are very reasonable. Check ‘em out!

Alfonso L pretty much summed up all the stuff I was going to say about the place. However, they also have the traditional case of Paletes sitting at the cash reigster where the co-worker and I scored on some awesome strawberry varieties.

Best damn Mexican market period –it actually beats Chavez up the street on 5th Avenue for its authenticity. But it’s more than a market. There is the sweet smell of pastries that come out of the bakery ovens in the back. Try getting there around 1 pm. This from a co-worker who swears that when he drops by on the way home the good stuff’s all gone. And what good stuff: conchas, elotes, cuernos. and all the Mexican pastries I grew up with, perfectly and lovingly baked. For you are deep in the hood here on Middlefield Avenue. Not the safest area and I don’t mean theft or whatever: the cars are simply driving too fast, so be careful –also, careful backing out of the street space! Anyways, you can get the real hard-to-find specialties here: freshly cut nopales in little bags(cactus = amazing stuff), freshly-made atole in different flavors and plenty of Mexican products on the shelves. There is also this incredible apple soda from Mexico(recently bought by Pepsi) that I swear by called Manzanita. I could drink gallons of this stuff in a glass with ice. So good. Staff is friendly and friendlier still if you smile and speak Spanish. Yes, it’s primarily a bakery and the whiff of fresh bread will knock you out when you walk in, but there is so much more. Note: it’s cash only, but there’s an ATM machine inside. Bonus: rockin’ good $ 1.00 tacos next door at the ubiquitously-named El Grullense hole-in-wall-joint next door. You must try if only to see the sociology, and savor the tacos, tortas and burritos.
