Decent grilled cheese for a not so decent price. I ordered the bandit w/ham. The cheese could have been slightly more melted but the bread was awesome. Very fluffy! The customer service was great but its gonna take more than good service to make me wanna come back. I am more than happy making my own grilled cheese at home. However, I really loved the tator tot/hush puppy thing. Those were delicious. They sorta reminded me of the potato balls from Portos.

While waiting since 5:30 am in the morning for discounted tickets to BFD, grilled cheese bandits arrived to what I thought would be my rescue! My hunger was somewhat rescued, however my wallet was not. They had a nice menu of speciality grilled cheese the Jesse James was okay. The cheese was not melted all the way :/it was served on organic batar bread which was probably the best part. I also ordered tater balls, they were pretty good nice thin crispy layer on the outside and mashed divines in the middle. My friend had a bandit– which is the traditional grilled cheese and she was satisfied BUUTTTT…, they only served a half size portion. I was very disappointed considering I payed what seemed to be full price of 5 $ for the Jesse James and 4 $ for 3 tater balls. The food was mediocre and the bandits certainly did their job of ransacking my friend and I for our money.

ban·dit noun 1. a robber or outlaw belonging to a gang and typically operating in an isolated or lawless area. Well I certainly feel robbed. Granted, it was only $ 12 for 2 sandwiches and a side of tater thingies, but still, it was the quality of the food that left me feeling robbed. When the line next to Chairman Bao truck is twice as long, I figured they must really have something going on for this truck. So, after we finished our delicious bao, we stood in this line for about 20 minutes only to get 2 shitty grilled cheese sandwiches and some tasteless tot balls. NO love was put into the creation of this food tonight. Not one ounce of love. and it showed. We ended up just putting it where it belongs…(see pic) You think when peeps decide to open a food truck, it’s because they have something of culinary MAGIC to share. But, when ya serve folks burnt bread with slightly melted cheese, you really are making suckers out of each and everyone of us. You got us bandits! *holds up hands*.

Co-workers and I were all excited about Almanac tap-takeover night at California Craft beer and were super excited to try the new beers. The bummer was that it was only 5−6pm and that was dinner time where we work. If only there were a way to acquire yummy food, TA-DA! guess who was parked outside?! Admittedly there was a bit of sticker shock with $ 9 for a «grilled cheese» but I bought one anyway. It was a huge sandwich with black forest ham buried under warm melty cheese. Even fancier was the fancy french bread it was smushed between. It paired perfectly with the sour stout(not really) but it was yummy and it was there when I needed dinner. The $ 9 price tag is a bit daring but it was pretty good.

I was stoked to hear that these guys came all the way from San Jose to serve up some grilled cheese. I’m happy they actually use butter for their bread and real cheese. The grilled cheese isn’t bad. Your sandwich comes with just enough chips. Maybe less than a bag, but enough to pair with your sandwich. I also ordered the fried tater tots. They only give you three but oh man so good. I’d like to imagine it’s fried in butter because it’s so rich.

We just had the Grilled Cheese Bandit truck at our company’s private event today. They offered a limited(3 sandwich option) for the event. I ordered the Bandit which is 3 cheese on texas toast. Unfortunately, it was not completely grilled and the cheese slices weren’t melted. Next time I’ll take a closer look before I walk away.

***3.5 stars*** i had a chance to try their sandwiches at the palo alto moveable feast in palo alto square. i’m a big fan of grilled cheese since it gives me that ooey, gooey, comfort food feeling every time i eat it. on the menu were several grilled cheese sandwiches, some with meat and some without, as well as tater tots and tomato bisque soup. i chose«the sandwich with no name» which was a gruyère and hot smoked salmon sandwich. since i wasn’t a fan of italian batard bread(hard outside crust which is a little rough on my mouth), i asked them to substitute the texas toast, which was essentially two large slices of white bread. the sandwich itself was yummy as i loved the combo of gruyère cheese and smoked salmon. i like that they were generous with the portion of salmon, instead of giving me just one small piece. the bread had some herbs on it which made the whole combination even more scrumptious. on the side were some kettle cooked potato chips. price-wise, i’d say they’re a bit on the high side, since i paid $ 8.50 for a very average-sized sandwich. i’d definitely expect something bigger for that price tag. but the sandwich was yummy and my tummy was happy, so i left a happy customer. would definitely return in the future to try one of their other sandwiches.

Most food trucks offer unique creations thar you can’t get anywhere else. And when I saw Grilled Cheese Bandits at Moveable Feast in San Jose this week I thought I was going to get a unique twist on the American classic dish. The first thing I noticed when I saw the truck was the long line, which in this Food Truck Generation means that it must be good! So my partner and I waited while deciding on a sandwich off of their menu. Once we made our decision, i chose the open faced one(can’t remember the name) and he chose another, we were told that they weren’t making my sandwich that evening. Why they didn’t take that option off the menu, I don’t know. I quickly chose the pesto/mozzarella one. We were told that they only had small slices of bread left and they would take $ 1 off each sandwich to compensate. We agreed but I knew it was all down hill from there. We waited… and waited… and waited. 20 minutes went by and I noticed they have good to customers behind us in line, a lot i of customers. I told the woman that took our order about this and she just said they might have ordered simple dishes that don’t take long to prepare. Ok whatever. Did I mention she was not friendly at all? Most food trucks we go to always give us smiles and seem happy to help customers. This woman did nothing to earn a tip, she acted like a WalMart employee. When we finally got our food, it wasn’t the small sandwiches that shocked us(because we were expecting it) but the cheese in it wasn’t even melted! How can this be called Grilled Cheese?!? And there was nothing special about these sandwiches whatsoever. They were just bread, little pieces of meat and no melted cheese. We didn’t even bother to complain, we just knew then and there that we would never eat there again. To sum it all up: –long wait –no friendly workers –lack of unique recipes –not fully cooked

You know what! I don’t write many reviews, but seeing an empty page here breaks my heart. These guys are cool. I sometimes feel ripped off by food trucks, as delicious as they can be. However, the bandits don’t live up to their name; in fact, their prices are very reasonable; 2 dollars for a plain grilled cheese, and 5 – 7 for the fancier sandwiches. They serve tomato bisque, a small portion but it’s only 3 bucks– and it’s good. It’s not too watery, served with a few croutons, and perfect for dipping your sandwich into. They also have a side of mashed potato balls that are lightly fried– you only get three, but they’re a tasty side if you just want a liiiittle bit more food. Anyway. It is my grilled cheese fix for sure, we’ll definitely be back to the RWC location the friday after next :)
